If you’re not keeping up, Cartoon Network sold off most of its original programming over the last few years to run exclusively on HBO Max, but after a merger with Discovery, HBO has taken them all down, including those that were still in production, for what is long story short a big tax write-off. And it’s not a simple matter of them just airing or streaming somewhere else now. It’s a very complicated issue of rights and contracts and money but essentially it’s very possible that these shows will never be available again in official capacity and their creators will never see another penny from them again, either. Some completed episodes may also be lost media, indefinitely. For a couple of series, such as Mao Mao and Infinity Train, Cartoon Network has gone back and scrubbed all tweets, youtube clips or other mention of the series existence, confirming they likely no longer have the rights to take them anywhere else. The tweet today by the creator of Tig N’ Seek made me saddest.
A lot of people this week have simply given up on their industry careers, seeing years of their life’s work just vanish into a corporate vault overnight. Being able to point to your work on a streaming service had apparently even become a pretty critical part of the portfolios they now rely on to get new jobs.
Streaming media went from an optimistic new frontier to even worse than cable TV so suddenly.
HBO Max has released a new list of shows being pulled from its catalog—including series with whole completed seasons that have yet to air
Another week, another revelation that Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a sharp and bloody implement to its HBO Max content library—and especially the animated and kids’ programming in the streaming service’s catalogue. This is per Deadline, which reports that 37 more titles are being stripped from the service, most of them either animated shows or reality TV (…) including shows that are reportedly still in production, and were expected to broadcast new episodes next year.
Take, for instance, the case of Summer Camp Island, which was previously supposed to release its already-completed final season a few weeks ago, before suddenly getting hit with an order delaying it until 2023. Now, like a number of shows that originated on Cartoon Network before migrating to HBO Max to bulk out its content over the last few years, the series is on the list of shows being pulled from the service outright this week—leaving a massive question mark about where these 20 finished-but-never-released episodes of TV will air, if anywhere. Series creator Julia Pott expressed her dismay at the move (which she apparently learned about from the Deadline piece!) on Twitter today.
Bored. Want something to do. No, not that. Not that either. No, that doesn’t sound fun. No, not that one, no, no, no. No. No. Hmm. No. Bored. Want something to do. Anything. Booooored. No, not that. Not that either. No, that doesn’t sound fun. No, not that one, no, no, no. No–
annabeth was complaining to percy one day about how her cabins showers are always freezing and pining!percy was just like “my cabins showers are always warm, you could…use them…if you…want… :]” and pining!annabeth takes him up on it and now she’s been using his showers for years and every time percy has to sit there and concentrate on making the water warm just for her but he’ll never tell her bc she’d feel bad and go back to her own freezing showers so she just thinks that cabin 3 has the best showers when in all actuality the whole camps plumbing is fucking ass and percy is so in love with her it’s ridiculous
social media has really warped our perception of creativity and hobbies. Stop doing things to post them. Just write. Just journal. Just sketch. Just read. Just annotate. Just sing. Just crochet. Just do the thing you’re going to do with the assumption no one will ever see or know you did it. Stop performing. Just enjoy it.
Lilo & Stitch is a great example of a story that has no villains. It has antagonists, sure, but most of them are well-meaning. The worst person in the film is that little shit Myrtle, but she’s not in the film that much anyway.
Since this post is getting traction I want to clarify how not-villainous the antagonists are:
The Grand Councilwoman is literally just responding to what she sees as a threat to the galaxy and is extremely reasonable.
Gantu is much the same. He’s a bit overzealous, yes, but he thinks he’s saving the galaxy from stitch.
Cobra Bubbles is literally just doing his job, he’s obviously not happy about it but he is doing what he feels is best for Lilo. And much like the Councilwoman, he is extremely reasonable.
Myrtle is, again, just a little shit. She’s a schoolyard bully and is truly small potatoes.
Jumba calls himself an “evil scientist,” but literally nothing supports that. His only onscreen crime is creating a bunch of Pokémon that have powers that will mildly inconvenience people and can be persuaded to be nice over the course of 22 - 90 minutes, to say nothing of himself seeing as he decides to change his ways at the softest bit of persuasion.
Pleakley is literally just gay.
King Valkyrie 👑 just became a catalyst to the Greek lady’s bisexual awakening 😌
