just de-installed the mobile app until I submit my master's thesis

I submitted in June, already got my grade, gave my strain collection to the prof, "vacated" my lab bench space, got my certificates, applied for Bürgergeld (still pending, RIP to me), have applied for at least some jobs (which could be more enthusiastic, but the timing of starting a job now is... complicated? because uh, I have my TOP SURGERY scheduled for the ✨end of December!✨, but it seems kinda pointless to apply for a job when I know I'll be out for a couple weeks while still within the probationary period of any potential new job and while one can't be fired for being sick, they don't need a reason to let one go when it's still probation. I'll just have to hope that the labor shortage in my field is severe enough they can't afford to let me go)

And I just reinstalled the tumblr app after almost six months... Anyways, if you find the right people on mastodon, it can be quite fun, too, hehe

So yeah, how's that for a life update?

yes. insects are massively important to the ecosystem and it would collapse as we know it without them.

but someone pointed out it’s important to not over-extrapolate and catastrophize from one study. and this is indeed one study using one methodology in specific areas of one country. so it’s not a good indication but it’s just one indicator.

It’s not just one study, I am currently reading The Insect Crisis by Oliver Milman and there are many studies across the globe showing similar findings. If you want a resource, you don’t even have to read the whole book, all the studies are cited in the Notes section at the back of the book.

GUYS NEW SHARK JUST DROPPED

Well, technically it's not new : it's a nurse shark. What's new, however, is that it's the first xanthic (imagine albinism but in yellow) nurse shark ever found !! Not only it's not common AT ALL to find fishes with xanthism (it's the first cartilagenous fish ever recorded with this type of genetic "anomally"), but if it's there and still existing as an adult, it means the species is chill-ish with other predators (it probably would have been eaten by then). Its eyes are white so it can also be a form of albinism, in addition to xanthism !!!!!

And most of all : ITS SO CUTE !! AND IT'S SUCH A COOL FIND !!

Please if a marine biologist or someone with more info can interact with this post to feed me some more info or correct me on wrong infos i'e given I'd love it !
