If you’re a USAmerican and rightfully horrified by what the government is doing right now, I just want to rq share 5calls. They have a really simple tool for finding your reps and contacting them, as well as a variety of scripts for anyone not confident speaking off book. Emails can be filtered out, phone calls, voicemails, and physical letters are much harder to ignore. Calling your reps isn’t the end all be all of anti-war action, but it’s a place to start while you process what the fuck just happened.

why do you think menstruation is still so underutilized in vampire literature? it seems like an obvious missed opportunity, is it still that much more taboo than all the other themes vampire media deals with?

okay I definitely do have thoughts on this, but I want to do more research and see if I can dig anything up. But I feel bad because life is busy and my initial thoughts have stayed in my drafts for a while, so I at least want to get them out

I'm no expert, but I have a feeling that taboo around menstruation in general plays a role.

In the same way that feminine-presenting characters in an apocalypse will often have smooth legs and perfect eyebrows, very rarely have I seen the menstrual cycle discussed in a lot of different genres where'd it would make sense to. Especially because as you mentioned, vampire media definitely delves into a lot of taboo themes

vampirism is about a sense of novelty wearing off. It's about the outward appearance of desirability, the mimicry of a correct interaction, a surface level facade you spend centuries perfecting. But it always cracks in the end, doesn't it? You eventually bite down too hard, and they see you and all your flaws. They always find out that underneath their expectations, they don't like the reality seeping through the fissures.
