It’s not the Constitution that defends people; it’s people who defend their Constitution. (c)
I’m still very unsure of what I’m going to write now. I know I can and I know I most certainly should, but – does anyone need it here? It’s just that I can’t remain silent any longer. I need to speak out loud, I need to do it internationally and right now.
The world is changing. What is happening nowadays is going to be history in somewhat maybe 50 years. And for my country, not tomorrow – today’s another day. It is.
What I was on about, it’s so bloody difficult to be a liberal here. A hundred years ago, though I don’t want to go all historical now, there was a chance to change everything, but alas, due to many different factors everything went wrong. 70 years of isolation. Broken lives. Corrupted economy. A massive destruction of public and personal consciousness. It is what our parents had to pay for, it is what we have to change immediately. I can say much more here but it’s a good topic for some other time. Shortly saying, it’s a tragedy: a huge country (a wonderful, amazing country which you would love once you came here) whose people think it doesn’t belong to them. People here are sure they can’t change the situation, that they must obey whatever comes from the above. He’s formally a president but actually a monarch. People are afraid, or they are sure it’s going to be worse once it is changed.
What I often hear from people around me is “What are we going to do when all THEY go away? If we change the government, what will happen? There will be no Russia without them”. And then I want to look them in the eye and say, “Yes, there will be none of those who steal money from the budget and restrict your rights and freedom. There will be none of those you got used to. But there will still be plenty of us, us who deserve to live in the country we build for ourselves”.
All intelligent young Russian people are now in the opposition. We are fighting for the world we want to live in, and even if this time we lose, we will at least show that it is possible. It’s possible to change everything. We need our rights and voices back. We need highly valued education. We need peace and freedom. We deserve it. We have to try.
Please, support us. Please, fight with us. We want another world. We want our country back.
I’m not going to write much about the protests in here, or about those people who have power now, or about those who help us organize the resistance. But I am going to say, all who think everyone deserves a chance, stay with us. We know we are right. They stole our liberty and Constitution, we are going to return it and make it work. But it is so difficult, so very difficult to speak about it where everyone wants to shut your mouth, where a personality isn’t really valued, where there seems to be alternatives.
It is never too late. Our government do not define us because our generation is different. We want another life and we want to be in touch with the world. Ignore the reports in press; Internet is our only media, our thoughts and voices are louder than censure. Listen to us, notice us, support us. It’s, after all, supposed to be global.
