when raven said "we can choose our own paths and don't have to follow our destinies" she meant it for everyone. also raven is an inherently kind character that tries to be good because she has been mischaracterized her whole life and she is known not to judge fast AND to give the benefit of the doubt. also there wouldn't be a story otherwise.

#i also think people seem to struggle with a relationship #where the person is kind on a personal level while still commiting actions that hurt someone they love on a wider scale #Apple is consistently very affectionate and kind to raven as a friend #being the one to make the overtures for their friendship in the first place #and even as their disagreements get worse #there’s never any real malice on Apple’s part and its clear Apple genuinely thinks she’s trying to help Raven #and Raven is aware of that too and it’s why she tries to hard to get through to Apple #because it’s not Apple’s interpersonal issues that are a problem but her deeply ingrained beliefs and biases that she digs her heels into #and someone like Raven who loves Apple and knows Apple loves her isn’t going to stip trying #even as Apple’s development is one step forward two steps back #the fact that Apple budges at all only motivates Raven to keep trying #rapple

Like a Gelphie AU in the EAH universe is so so interesting to me (and the concept of an Apple & Galinda friendship. Oh god there’s two of them lol) but the existence of Destiny and them growing up knowing their roles would change both of them on such a deep level I’d have to figure out how it’d even work

#like Elphaba is very much a character defined by her genuine hope and belief in the goodness around her #she knows the world can be better and will do anything to make that happen #but a part of this hope does hinge on her belief that dhe could be accepted even loved in the future during Act 1 #and a world where she’s not just feared and bullied but literally told from birth she’s destined to be wicked #create a very different view of the world around her #but she’d no doubt be a fervent Rebel once that starts #probably even butting heads with Raven as she feels Raven isn’t doing enough and thst they need stronger action #and Glinda’s is already pretty cynical about the people around her #and she already thinks (hopes) she’s destined for greatness #but having that undeniable proof that she WILL be Glinda the Good #i do think it would change both her relationship to her struggles with magic #and her friendship with Elphaba as she think they can’t be on the same side no matter what she tries #it’s interesting #gelphie #eah

One thing about Apple is that it always was That Serious for her. Raven could wave hi to her and Apple would get mad at Raven for being nice. But also that’s her best friend and whenever Raven gets mad at her she starts crying. Rinse and repeat for like five seasons.

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.

There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.

in general I think I have a weak spot for sunk cost fallacy characters. no point in trying to change because there's no going back! can't stop now because the possibility of being wrong is too unbearable to face head on and would destroy me if I tried!
