"How far superior an education that stresses independent action and personal responsibility is to one that relies on drill, external authority and ambition," (Albert Einstein).
“For even the most dehumanized modern fantasies depend on some older and simpler figure; the adventures may be mad, but the adventurer must be sane,” G.K. Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday.
My art teacher brother and mathematician father have made a comic together! Features an ornery ghost, a cosmically haunted house, and even some cameo art from me in a couple panels (couldn't resist joining a family project). You can nab a pdf for just $1 on Kickstarter if you're interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/naturalmath/al-logical-a-young-adult-graphic-novel/description
AL, Logical!
A YA mathy graphic novel by me and my HS art teacher son. (Mostly @goldenboyreturns because he's also the pencils, inks, color and letters.) We'd appreciate any clicks, views, sharing/reblogging or support.
AL is a middle school student who's pretty sure she's not a math person, but unlocks her problem solving power in the mysterious neighborhood haunted house.
I'm really proud of the story, and especially Xavi's work.
Please take a peek on Kickstarter!
It's like a math circle, but in a haunted multi-dimensional mansion where a brave artist finds a restless ghost of a mathematician.
The math comic book I've been working on with @mathhombre has a Kickstarter! If you've ever seen my cartoons or comics and thought "Hey, I hope I can help his work get published"... Now you can!
This book is also worth supporting if you believe in:
Making STEM a more inclusive field.
Supporting independent writers and artists.
Providing students with educational materials that are actually entertaining and enriching!
Encouraging a growth mindset in all types of learners!
(All equally important things.)
Trying to abstract celebrities into superheroes.
Check my Patreon out if you’d like to support the comic, even a little bit helps. Or just to check out the reward tiers, there’s some neat bonus stuff and I tried to make them fun: https://www.patreon.com/waitingforthet
“I try to escape from the absolute noise of the street by seeking a silence in which I can recover myself and my innermost thoughts,” (Joan Miro).
the word balloon I didn't have room for was 'what self-respecting super-villain hasn't tried to break into the baxter building?'
"When I'm a bard, I'm a bard. And when I'm a king, that's something else again. I never mix the two," (Lloyd Alexander, Castle of Llyr).
The Marvel fan comic I started in 2023 is still going and you should still be occasionally checking it out. Captain America is a vampire, Spider-Girl fights Galactus, and the Masters of Evil are doing so many bits and gags.
“Although (Rosa Bonheur) always insisted that this (…) costume was chosen only to facilitate her work, the fact that she wore it for many other activities for which it was neither necessary nor accepted suggests that it had a meaning for her transcending the merely utilitarian,” (James Saslow, “Disagreeably Hidden”).
“Imagination is more important than knowledge,” (Albert Einstein).
“If we all think that only terrible people want power and we adopt that as almost like a cultural cliche or norm, then only terrible people will pursue power because people who want to be good and good-hearted then associate power with a negative thing,” (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez).
“We are weak, flawed, (and) failed instruments,” (Fleming Rutledge).
“Color has taken possession of me. No longer do I have to chase after it, I know that it has hold of me forever,” (Paul Klee).
Superman: Legacy!
The movie is finally here (and no longer called Superman Legacy) and it was great!
“There are no safe paths in this part of the world. Remember you are over the Edge of the Wild now, and in for all sorts of fun wherever you go,” (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit).
