I have read different texts claiming that Redeads were different things, from simple undead to sort of elementals of pain. Could you clear up the nature of this for me?

There is nothing simple about a Redead. They are horrors of the foulest black magic, made by those who understand truly what it means to deliver agony unending.

When a Redead is formed, its host must be a living being. A should is needed within its carapace, lest the transformation go awry and become a Stalfos instead.

It, being the person, is brought to the brink of starvation. their muscles atrophy, their limbs dangle, kept barely alive until they are more skeleton than person.

It is only at the very moment before their death, that the mage wrenches from them their soul, completing the transformation into an undead creature.

Now, unlike a Stalfos, the Redead has a ceaseless hunger, and will attack anything that comes near it. It is fully consumed by the hunger it held in life, and now the need to refill its empty hole that once contained its soul.

I would caution any who desire to craft such a creature.
