I would say it is because human are sentient, where machine usually aren't, not in a way that can be proven.

In philosophical discussions about the possibility of artificial sentience, the most important question is "what is sentience and how could a machine have it". Some argue it would need experience that are humans like to be sentient where others argue that this hypothetical sentience would be different to human sentience, where the response tends to be "would it still be sentient then?"

Which can be why they view it as different.

They do not view a sentience different to their as important, they view machines as materials, something that can be recycled, something that doesn't need to be perceived in the same way they perceived themselves, to them, machines are only there to be exploited, used, then when it's become defective, it's thrown away forever or deconstructed and sold.

They view machines as something that doesn't have a life.

They view humans as something that can always be so much more, life more, make more meaningful relationships, have complexity, have a mind, a soul.

Hey so I thought we as userbase should organize spontaneous blackout protest against shapes inc ads here. I thought Feb 26th would be a good date (so ppl has 72 hrs notice if they want to participate), we would log off for 24hrs to show tumblr we are not okay with that (and also for shapes to get less ad revenue for a day in a process lol).
