Like to charge and reblog to cast Chinese scientists destroying the Insulin industry
the original tweet is from May this year but there has been an update!!
yay for the Chinese destroying the American insulin industry!!!!
the wheel of life
This is one of the funniest things I've found on tumblr and I've seen some shit
You know that post that was going around like a year ago. That said something like 'hey you don't need to wear any makeup' and people kept commenting shit like 'yeah just a little eyeliner is enough'. This is how this post feels to me
I’m going to have a fucking breakdown
HAAAANK! NO HANK!! THAT'S NOT A BACTERIOPHAGE! THOSE WOULD BE WAY SMALLER THAN A TARDIGRADE! THAT'S A RADIOLARIAN, A TYPE OF UNICELLULAR EUKARYOTIC ORGANISM KNOWN FOR ITS ELABORATE MINERAL SKELETONS! HAAAANK! THAT'S THE WRONG MICROBE!!!
I will probably also google this with "reddit" because that's the only way google is usable anymore, but does anyone know what the current good options for cloud storage are?
If I lose my work due to hardware failures or anything else, I might actually die myself to deadth.
I wanted to reblog this because there were other curious parties. Maybe this is helpful info.
I asked a friend of whom archiving is basically a hobby of, and they said Google Drive and Mega are the gold standard, and a lot of that is because they've been doing it the longest.
A good number of people have also recommended Dropbox. I was under the assumption that Dropbox had fallen out of favor, and I admittedly don't know where that came from. Maybe because it's kind of become the generic name for this? Iddaknow! It seems like a good option!
Proton was one that I didn't recognize. They have encrypted email accounts which is great. Upon googling them, I saw they handed over email access to authorities which was an immediate huge turn off, but I'd be fooling myself if I didn't think google wouldn't do the same. Obviously I'm not planning on hosting illegal material, but it's something worth pointing out.
Backblaze got a glowing recommendation too. The BIG thing from them that sets them apart is they're a computer back up company, so if something happens to your PC or Mac, you can get it restored much like you would with windows restore but for a new PC. Very cool.
These all seem solid and it's just a matter of preference and budget.
For physical storage, this is a bit more straight forward if you need to know about this.
Solid State Drives (SSDs) are great and fast, but Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) are far more reliable long term. Why?
SSDs store information via an electric charge, and once that charge goes, so does the data, and anything that holds a charge also has diminishing returns at retaining it. HDDs write the data right onto physical disks that don't need electricity to retain information. Only to power and read it. (Someone who knows more than me feel free to correct this if I got something wrong)
And I'll probably also invest in a Bluray burner. I've been told that CDs for long term storage is not the way to go, but CDs much like HDDs are older tech that has had a lot of time to improve over newer conveniences like SSDs. Blurays are far more durable than CDs and DVDs in general, and estimates vary wildly for how long they last if taken care of. I've seen anywhere from 20-100 years. 20 to 100 years without worrying about hardware failure!
For local storage, it's probably good time to point that these next two months will be rife with sales. It's probably also good to point out that PC hardware is expected to go up in price when the next president is sworn in and starts ruining things.
I hope someone finds this useful.
AHH! I GOOFED!
I forgot to post Western Digital is the de-facto brand for personal storage.
adding to this, i use macrium reflect to make multiple copies of my files at least once a day (a copy to my external drive and a copy to google cloud). this program makes a copy of the selected folder and then scans for changes to update it when i add/change files.
As someone who recently lost a fuckwhack of data to a head crash, the real secret is to have multiple backups. The more you have, the less likely it is that 100% of your storage media fails at the same time.

One of the stranger things about training brand new nurses is explaining how to min max small talk. It feels very weird to coach people on how to chat.
if I make and post an insanely detailed powerpoint on the twenty different equations I run mentally during casual conversation to make it flow better, everyone has to say that it's sexy and cool and not weird at all
remember, everyone promised to be cool! also disclaimer disclaimer disclaimer assume I said all the things you'd say to be like "i know human interaction is complicated, i know some of what i listed here would be very annoying to some people," and all that
Started a new vest project this week ! Test swatch + bottom section ⛪🌿

Howl truly is the man of all time. He’s a playboy. He’s a malewife. He fell in love with a ninety year old woman. He’s a rugby player. He smells like hyacinths. He’s not a natural blond. When dying his hair went slightly wrong, he filled his home with slime. He has a PhD. He’s a wizard. He found a way to another universe and he told absolutely nobody about it. He makes video games about the magical universe for his nephews. He can’t play the guitar. He always takes a guitar with him when he’s trying to seduce a woman. He’s a self-proclaimed coward. He got drunk to trick himself into doing something dangerous. He overcharges for his services to rich people. He undercharges for his services to poor people. A woman invaded his home and declared herself his cleaning lady and he just let her stay. He loves spiders. He lies about his surname to everyone, including royalty. The true spelling of his first name is Howell, but we don’t find out until halfway through the book because the POV character thinks it’s spelled Howl. He’s even Welsh.
