stripes are fun
crazy to think that I got a corporate office job ..... I'm really getting older huh
first section of a hat I'm working on as a Christmas present for my sister is done! She picked out such a beautiful yarn and I just wanted to show it off 👀 the pattern is worked up to look like a sort of faux knit, and I'm really seeing the effect show up here!
yarn: berroco's wizard in the color turquoise (2968)
pattern: clover beanie by cosmaudí (I will say, the pattern is quite expensive for a beanie pattern, but it's got video tutorials on the stitches and assembly and the pattern is the most well explained and put together one I've used so far!! 100% worth it)
second section done!! this yarn works up so beautifully, tbh this pattern was a perfect fit for it and how the gradient flows

thinking about Spiritfarer and how it was The Game that broke me
like don't get me wrong, games have managed to make me sad/cry before, but nothing compares to the GRIEF I felt when spiritfarer introduced me to stanley and then told me I had to guide his soul to the afterlife. I STILL cry when I think about it. I couldn't play the game for like 3 weeks afterwards

ALRIGHT MY FRIENDS ARE WE READY FOR
A BIG CROCHET PROJECT UPDATE!!!!
I keep putting off posting about everything on here and instead of making a bunch of separate posts, I figured I might as well just get it all done in one shot!!
So first off, an update on the baby blanket I had been making!! As a refresher, my coworker and his fiance had a baby a few months ago in July, and I was asked to make a baby blanket for the lil one even though it was late into the pregnancy at the time. I took on this task with DEDICATION and it is NOW DONE
I used TL Yarn Crafts' Hexis in Springtime blanket pattern and Hobbii's Frutta + Lion Brand's 24/7 Cotton and I'm very very pleased with how VIBRANT it ended up being. I was initially afraid that the white borders would really wash everything out, but I think the Frutta yarn matched its energy and held its own. and it's all 100% cotton, so it should hold up over time and many washes!! I also made my own ruffly edges rather than using the pattern's, and I also sewed on a standard baby blanket fabric on the "wrong" side of the crochet (with my mom's help!)
honest to God I'm so proud of this one, and even though it's not perfect I am sooooo excited to have done it!! it's a blankie a baby can grow up with and I'm so happy to give them that 😭 I can't wait for the baby pictures I've been promised
AND THEN
this one is a bit of an oldie, but I made my best friend Madison a mushroom purse for her birthday gift this year!! I hadn't posted about it on here because she follows me on umblr and it was supposed to be a surprise, but she's now had it for a few months so it's free real estate
the pattern is this one from Bayou Self Creations on etsy, and I used Big Twist Value yarn in the colors cream, mustard, and toffee!! this pattern was SO fantastic and well detailed, and I found that I was comfortable enough w it to make some adjustments, so I did! For one, I bought purse hardware and introduced lobster clasps and a strap adjuster ring so that the bag can be easily taken off the strap, and the strap adjusted. I made a little tassel for some extra decoration and used a bead to create the little door knob, and I even lined the inside of the bag with white liner to make sure it can hold anything without the item slipping through the holes always created in crochet
this pattern was SO much fun to make and it really worked up so fast since most of it was done with worsted weight yarn held double. highly recommend!!
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE
one of my dear coworkers has always caught me crocheting and asked if I'd be willing to make him something small. after some pestering, he said he'd like mushroom boy keychains, and I delivered!!
I used the Chonky Mushroom Boi pattern by Chonky.Crochet on ribblr (which, tangentially related, is quite honestly the WORST app I've ever used ui/ux related. It is so HORRID). the pattern is super thorough and these little guys worked up very quickly and were a great way to use up some scrap yarn! unfortunately, they did get a little damaged already and I have to find a better way to fasten them to the keychain thing. I WILL though
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
another baby crochet project!! this time for my very sweet neighbor who is 6 months along. I really wanted to make her something without committing to the scope of something like another baby blanket, so I did some digging around until I found this pattern for baby loveys by theodoreandrose (hosted on the Bella Coco Crochet website). I made some adjustments (see: packing in more crochet stitches towards the last few rows in order to make the bottom ruffley, adding two extra rows otherwise, crocheting extra ear details), but otherwise the pattern itself was incredible (ESPECIALLY considering it's free!) and I managed to knock this one out in about half a month working on it here and there. It was also the first time I had completely 100% freehand embroidered a face onto a plushie I've made, and I kinda thing I killed it tbh. it looks so much like an old school toy and I love it!!
I used Berroco's Comfort yarn in the color Falseberry Heather. I wish I could have gone for something a lil more colorful, but the baby nursery follows a forest theme and I didn't want to stray from it. in any case, I think the tan yarn (scraps from WeCrochet's Comfy yarn, throwback to that monkey amigurumi I posted about ages ago) did a good enough job of breaking things up!!
And now we're all caught up!! I've got a few projects I wanna get done as Christmas gifts and I've already started on my next one, so 👀 I'll see y'all again soon!!
“To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.
What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.
And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”
~ Howard Zinn
if you're feeling powerless right now—and god knows I am—here's a reminder you can donate to the National Network of Abortion Funds, the Trans Law Center, Gaza Soup Kitchen, the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and hundreds of other charities that will work to mitigate the damage that has been and will continue to be inflicted
life continues. we still have the capacity to do good, important work. that matters
there needs to be a cultural shift in america like im not talking about culture war bullshit i mean the average american needs to learn to care about their community and the rest of the world and not be a self-absorbed asshole with a "fuck you i got mine" attitude.
lilllll bit of a vent
my mom is currently unemployed which, by itself, is not a big deal and thankfully my dad makes enough for us to get by with budgeting and cut backs. however she now has an abundance of free time, which shows it's ass as:
- talking about prophesized doomsday scenarios
- getting on my ass about religious habits and my lack of em
- getting on my ass about other unrelated things (like not speaking Spanish, which I have told her multiple times I do not understand the grammatical structure of, and which she has never tried to teach me once, even as an actual child)
- talking shit about my middle sister (aka the sister I have a relationship with) and her life decisions that truly do not affect my parents in any way aside from not directly benefiting them
- talking to me about my older sister (who I do not ever particularly choose to speak to) and acting like the sun shines out of her ass
- etc etc
It's all just very annoying and entirely irritating and I really wish I could get out of this fucking house already
If you vote in North Carolina, you're going to see this on your ballot. Looks pretty straightforward, right?
But it's a trap placed by the GOP. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Voting "For" this referendum will remove the phrase "and every person who has been naturalized" from this section on voter eligibility in the NC constitution. This could place the future voting rights of about 400,000 naturalized US citizens in the state in jeopardy.
Just a reminder - it's already illegal for non-citizens to vote! There's no evidence that this happens in significant numbers anywhere in the country, and North Carolina has restrictions in place against it happening at all, like the voter ID law that's now in effect.
(The voter ID law disproportionately affects POC, as well as transgender voters, both of whom are more likely to vote Democratic as well as lack the needed ID, but that's another post.)
Voting "Against" on this measure will leave the state constitution unchanged.

NEW BOOKSHELF ADDITIONS TODAY
first: I'm not usually someone to bow down at the special edition of a book, but I'm SO happy I managed to get my hands on the fairyloot special edition of howl's moving castle 😭
I love the movie of course, but the actual book for howl's moving castle is one of my favorites of all time, and I really love to see it get the appreciation it deserves aside from the movie. the artwork on its own is so beautiful and whimsical and colorful, and I wanted to FAINT when I saw the sprayed edges. they're gorgeous!!
the dustcover is also reversible (and still very cute, if a bit lame imo), and the clothbinding was such a good touch with that shiny vinyl. I am so in love, genuinely
special shout-out to my dad who camped out on the fairyloot website so he could buy the book in my stead while I was at work, unable to queue. what a champ 😭
and then!! I also bought a book nook model kit, and I managed to finish building it today after some 10 hours scattered across three days!! It's such a warm, welcoming touch, and I'm so in love with how it looks on my shelf
I want so badly to rant about echoes of wisdom
Tf you mean people don’t keep their bedroom windows open for long amounts of time? You ACTUALY close it at night?? Dude.. I haven’t closed my window since give or take a bit around the start of spring.. and even as im freezing my bone off I refuse to close it completely - I NEED the circulating air. Do inform me.. is it actually common practice to close your window at night?
Do you close your window:
Every night, it’s a must.
Every night but because/when it gets cold
Every other night/day or so
Usually after a week or two
If it’s been open for a month or two
Only at night and in the autumn/winter months
Always in autumn/winter
I rarely open it, but it’s usually less than a day
I don’t open my windows
I don’t have windows (?)
