being on Tumblr is like playing a violin in a concert hall for thousands of people and a few of them clap, then honking a kazoo to amuse your 2 friends AND SUDDENLY YOU HAVE 20K NOTES
don't even think about it

modern!AU of my favorite campaign 3 lads <33 they're deciding where they're gonna have lunch 💖
Applebees SoulCycle, long may it reign.
The thing about Ludinus is that yes, he does have a very high INT score but he is in fact stupid. He is a particular brand of stupid that I like to call Wizard Stupid, which is related to but not identical to Wizard Hubris. Wizard Hubris is the vision; Wizard Stupid is the realization.
Wizard Hubris is excessive confidence that is derived from the fact that one is a wizard, and therefore obviously knows everything, probably even more than the gods. Wizard Stupid is then carrying out the plans derived from Wizard Hubris without any kind of safety net. Where Wizard Hubris says "There is nothing beyond my capabilities"; Wizard Stupid says "No consequences can touch me." Wizard Hubris is building the Tower of Babel; Wizard Stupid is leaning one ladder on top of another ladder to do so. Wizard Hubris is the belief that you can, and indeed, are entitled, to fuck around. Wizard Stupid is the unshakeable belief that you will not be subjected to finding out.
So: let's look at Caleb. Caleb is FULL of Wizard Hubris for most of Campaign 2, given that he desires to reconfigure the time-space continuum, but except for a few relatively rare occasions, he is not terribly Wizard Stupid. He actually tends to be extremely cautious, and the cases in which he indulges the Wizard Stupidity are relatively self-contained (eg: the emerald).
Yussa, meanwhile, has few grand designs and mostly wants to hang out and fuck with the gentrification and political cronyism of Nicodranas, and honestly, good for him, seems totally reasonable. However, he does think that the Archmage's Bane is not referring to him (archmage) and that Astral Projection, a totally standard high level wizard's spell well within his abilities without any need for hubris, will carry no risk if he then decides to check out a little place called Cognouza.
Of course, many wizards have both. It's actually pretty rare to be mostly one or the other (which is why Caleb and Yussa are used for illustrative purposes). It's also pretty rare to have neither; Allura is the closest, and even she has her moments. Some degree of Wizard Hubris and Stupid do come packaged with the act of being a wizard.
Ludinus, obviously has both; he is, basically, building the Tower of Babel and he is, canonically, violating a list of safety protocols that rivals the length of a CVS receipt. And so: the hubris is "I can, should, must, and will blow up the moon that imprisons a god-eating abomination"; the stupid is sticking his fucking arm in the machine to power it.
Wait before we get all new art:
"We have a limited amount of time. And I would love for you to see the sunrise."
-Critical Role Campaign 2, Episode 97, "The Fancy and the Fooled"
I know there's a post that implies the whole of Bells Hells are NPCs turned PCs. Once, with Imogen exception.
But now, with the development and exposition of Liliana who basically becomes an adventurer (loosely speaking), trying to find answers and free her and her daughter from painful fates. Who left Gelvaan for a long time, leaving her family. Travelling all over Exandria doing who knows what to keep travelling amd find answers.
With new guest PCs (Deanna and FRIDA), who were essentially affected by the result of waking up by the supposed main character's of another story.
All these PCs, in this campaign. Once the background characters who essentially are not important, then having to fight for a tomorrow from Predathos. It's the story of people, who were affected by the actions of the 'main characters/antagonist' from a different story.
"And who are you?"
"Jester. That's all."
"Are you willing to carry this penance as well? For to hold onto these chains is to accept them. Do you love him this much?"

enigmatic,
The breadsticks thing to me is hilarious I think it must be another Europe/America thing bc my whole life ‘breadsticks’ have been these hard crunchy thin stick things you buy them at the supermarket and it says breadsticks on the box Never in my life has anyone around me referred to an actual stick of bread as a breadstick lmao But then we don’t have Olive Garden either
I… did wonder why there would be such a focus on going to somewhere with unlimited dry wheat twigs. Googling ‘olive garden breadsticks’ does seem to suggest a tastier thing.
Huh.
this changes everything
I mean, I thought it was odd that they everyone was so excited about breadsticks… but then I thought, well, it’s America…
Wait they’re talking about actual bread???
grissini:
breadsticks:
… I want American breadsticks. ;_;
@goodbyecassiel - this is the Great Breadstick Misunderstanding, companion to the Epic Lemonade Confusion post
Omfg same
wtaf why did nobody ever tell us they were talking about actual bread?!?!
We literally did tell you. We. We used the word BREAD.
but………… those aren’t breadsticks!
They are sticks.
Of bread.
🤷♂️
OH the joke is funnier than previously thought because those are bigger and therefore it would be harder and more socially awkward to shove them into your purse! Lol
I feel like this is explaining a joke to Vulcans who are totally game to try humor, and I’m loving it.
Dear Olive Garden,
That is a whole ass baguette.
Sincerely,
The non-megalomaniac European
I feel like perhaps you misunderstand the size of a breadstick. They are not baguette sized. They are breadsticks.
You can eat a few of them with a meal. They’re usually very soft bread, and you dip them in sauces or use them to mop up leftover sauce from your pasta maybe. Or just eat them.
WHAT? IT’S BREAD BREAD! NOT CRONCH :O I DIDN’T KNOW!
YEAH ITS LIGHT AND FLUFFY AND THEY BASTE THE TOP WITH BUTTER AND COAT THAT BUTTER WITH GARLIC AND CHEESE AND PARSLEY SOMETIMES ITS TRULY JUST THE BEST
GREEN DAY WAS WRONG, I DO WANT TO BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT, I WANT TO BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT SO BAD, ALREADY NAILED THE IDIOT PART BUT I DON’T EVEN GET THE BREAD
The first canon PC romance of campaign 3 is t4t, nonbinary on both ends, and an examination of a relationship outside of amatonormativity/traditional sexuality by its very design and nothing can take that away. Total win.
Video Game Idea.
A game that is marketed as your standard fishing game and for the first 20 minutes or so you catch normal fish like bluegill and bass and what have you. But the further you go into the lake you start to catch fish with mutations and it gets more and more intense until you’re pulling in Eldritch horror monsters and sometimes severed human limbs. You realize you don’t recall how you got to this lake in the first place and the objective becomes to find your way back to shore. You have no real weapons but you can throw the creatures you’ve caught far away from the boat as a means to distract whatever is underneath you, bumping into the boat sometimes. Additional items for the game.
A fishing pole with a radar that starts out with just beeps but later includes noises with hidden messages.
A GPS that displays texts and story elements.
You meet other boaters, all from various backgrounds, countries, and time periods. Some are friendly, others want to sacrifice you to the lake monsters.
You can also take the route of sacrificing others to the lake monster.
Or you can assemble a party and work to keep them safe.
The more fucked up looking the fish you catch, the closer you’re getting to a boss fight, which is usually running from something you can only see part of in the water.
????
And that’s my game idea.
More details.
It never stops being a fishing game. You are always fishing and searching for new areas where there is more activity in order to progress the story.
Depending on the choices you make and the amount of mutant fish you consume, you may start to mutate yourself. The fishing pole is part of your arm, you don’t notice it until later. If you consume mostly non-mutated fish and don’t sacrifice to the monsters you can keep the mutations to a minimum.
You can go full mutant and the boat becomes part of your body as well. This makes the monsters pay less attention to you, but you can no longer befriend or trade items with humans. You can still catch human remains and most of them are carrying items.
If you stay mostly human you can work to gather as many surviving humans as you find and assemble a fleet. The possibility of one of them turning on you always stands.
If you’re mutant you gain the ability to capsize yourself and view things under water. This is how you find ultimate monster.
If you’re human you can explore small abandoned docks and islands. These are where you find portals leading to different time periods and countries. You deliver members of your party to these. Only the person who originally belongs there can go through it.
Possible end game situations.
You find the portal leading back to your world, where you wake up on the river bank. You can catch normal fish before going home, making sure they are all free of mutations (they might not be.)
You join the monster, eventually overtaking it. You gain the ability to open time portals near water. You use lures to draw in humans.
I can’t think of anymore endings right now, I may have ruined the game with these new details so feel free to just enjoy the first part.
Terrible concept art. Mini game idea. Compete with members of your party to catch the most fucked up fish. Points awarded based on how many extra body parts it has and if it communicates telepathically with you.
Added my No-Romo posts to this because I feel they are the most important additions. (I am not a writer or game designer or really capable of making anything so this idea is just wishful thinking at best.)
Concept art if it was a more stylized, cute game. You would be able to customize your character and your boat. Sorry this became so big I’m tagging it with it’s working title “Lure” for now. I legit expect nothing at all to come from this, I just like to design and concept out things a bit.
DREDGE is a single-player fishing adventure with a sinister undercurrent. Sell your catch, upgrade your boat, and dredge the depths for long
damn, they did it???
THEY DID IT!!!
the reason critical role is so good is because every campaign features at least one cast member creating a character that they intend to be doomed by the narrative and matt and the rest of the cast going don’t be an idiot, Our Love Will Undoom Them. like in the explanation of percy’s final playlist, taliesin wrote, “Cheers to a happy ending for a character intended by his creator to be karmically irredeemable. May we all be so fortunate.” and just, Yeah.
Wow those tags @your-turn-to-role
