Your blog was hacked: what to do?

If you see weird pics of ladies with dubious links posted on your blog out of the blue, here’s a step by step way of stopping this and preventing it from happening again that I think might work.

Important : this only works if you can still access your blog!

Changing your password is important, but it won’t do you any good if your hacker still has an opened session on your blog and can still access it. So the first thing you wanna do is close your hacker’s session.

For that you need to go in your blog’s settings:

On the new page opened, scroll all the way down. There, you can see something called “Active Sessions“. The first and oldest one (”current session” in green) should be yours, the new one should be the hacker’s session. To close your hacker’s session, click the gray X next to it.

Now that their session is closed, they can’t access your blog anymore unless they enter the password again.

So don’t lose time, go all the way back up and change your password immediately. Make also sure your hacker didn’t change your email address.

Now you should be safe from your hacker. But it won’t prevent you from getting hacked again.

If you really want to be safe from hackers, you should turn on the “Two-factor authentification” option (on the same page).

It requires you to enter your phone number, which is a bummer. But if it’s turned on, everytime you wanna log on (so not if your session is already opened, but only if you log off and try to log on again), it will send a code on your phone that you’ll have to enter (in addition to having a password).

That way if someone tries to hack you again, even if they get your password right, they won’t be able to enter your blog without having that code.

There it is. I hope it will help some of you, since I see more and more people noticing blogs being hacked

the coolest thing I’ve ever done is in high school gym i was standing by the wall in PE reading a book and somebody accidentally hit a shuttlecock in my direction and I reached up without looking and snatched it out of the air, and unfortunately I have never been that cool before or since

I was always the “last kid picked” type in gym. Couldn’t run, couldn’t catch, couldn’t hit a ball. One day in eighth grade we played this version of dodgeball where instead of teams, it was every man for himself. Anyone who was out would go stand on the sidelines where you could continue to get people inside the box out. Last person standing wins. 

When the blood frenzy began, I quietly made my way to the corner and stood just inside the line, minding my business for the whole game. Everyone assumed I was out because I Sucked At Everything. When the “last” kid threw his hands in the air, celebrating his victory, I grabbed a ball from my neighbor and nailed him square in the back with it. 

There was a riot. We never played dodgeball again.

Some adult: God I hate that children don’t think like adults! I would force them to pretend they do because I interpret child thought patterns as a personal insult!

Parent: I understand that your attention span has done all it can with the stimulation provided. Here is your gameboy to keep you entertained while the adults talk about things you don’t find interesting, like the history of very large rocks.

Child: *quietly squats down and plays with the gameboy, allowing adults to enjoy their rocks*

Parent: I am very glad that I understand to some extent how children’s minds work, or this holiday would be a miserable experience for both of us. How fortunate that I planned ahead to allow my child periods of rest and quiet entertainment during excursions that are primarily for my benefit and enjoyment.

You can also try engaging with the child. Like. Explain history, ask them how THEY think the rocks got all the way there, discuss ancient wars and technology, MAKE it interesting because otherwise it IS just rocks in a field. The comments about attention fatigue are true, but if a kid is not engaged there’s also a strong chance you’ve failed to engage them.
