Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
(guy who doesnt even like dating) ok well does anyone want to get entranced by my whole deal or no.
sometimes being a fan of something means not wanting them to make any more of it
absolutely love abusing the power that comes with 3rd person limited pov and just ignoring things and being vague sometimes. does the character know all the details? no? then I don't have to either.
liking a ship but disliking the distinct set of stock fanon that they have been assigned is like one of those punishments dante came up with when he wrote the worldbuilding for hell in inferno
No, no it isn’t.
this gif is perfectly timed because it gives you enough time to read it, comprehend it, and still have this too-long-for-comfort moment of suspense before being punched square in the solar plexus
media literacy includes understanding why a media product was made, to whom it's being sold, and the assumed preferences of its marketing demographic. narrative is not produced or sold in a vacuum.

Hm. Interesting. Apparently cortisol production depletes magnesium stores. And I have a lot of symptomatic overlap with magnesium deficiency. And it can apparently help migraine. And ADHD. I think I'm going to try supplementing magnesium glycinate. L-threonate sounds really interesting too as that's magnesium that can cross the blood-brain barrier and apparently is super useful for memory and shit.
this can't keep happening
'all takes on media are valid' ok but they're not though are they. some people are profoundly stupid aren't they. some people refuse to think about what a story is saying because all they want to do is 'play with the characters'. why is 'play with characters' always code for 'divorcing them from the point of a story to such an extreme degree that it makes them boring because i just want to project my issues onto them even if that doesn't fit'
i still stand by this forever btw. yes, there is a way to be wrong about media. one can interpret whatever one wants however one wants but there is also a point when that interpretation is so divorced from the point of a story. that it becomes laughably wrong. not everything is valid. sometimes people are just stupid. and wrong.
Discussing baby’s future
They are both doing the "I want" chitter. They very much want to get up, but they have a sleeping baby cuddling with them. They must endure, but they will not be silent about it
Well well well, kitties. Looks like you want to get up but there's a little cat on you so you can't. Very frustrating situation there, can't imagine the burden of being held down by a little adorable kittycat. Couldn't, as the kids say, be me.
amatus ✨
every time someones says "hey how are you" and i say "good" and forget to add the "how about you?" i feel like i've missed a quicktime event
I'm sorry WHAT
'lazy people don't feel guilty about not doing anything' is insane to me and I have been trying to make my brain believe it for a long time, it shocked me to my core when I first heard it
An important corollary to "if you were faking your mental illness, you could stop whenever you wanted."
anyway. stop making your entire personality being mean. it’s boring
i’m so tired of it. oh you’re jaded? oh you’re casually cruel? oh you think it’s funny? you think you’re better than everybody else? snooze! why don’t you go get a real personality
This whole "only AI uses endashes" discourse is especially funny from the perspective of a guy who has the ALT+numpad codes for en- and emdashes memorised so he can still use them when posting from desktop terminals which lack his accustomed keyboard shortcuts.
