Secret cinema found beneath Paris.

In September 2004, French police discovered a hidden chamber in the catacombs under Paris. It contained a full-sized movie screen, projection equipment, a bar, a pressure cooker for making couscous, a professionally installed electricity system, and at least three phone lines. Movies ranged from 1950s noir classics to recent thrillers.

When the police returned three days later, the phone and power lines had been cut and there was a note on the floor: “Do not try to find us.” (via)

I am very happy that in Australia they stopped having Raoul run up to Christine and immediately kiss her without warning. Not only does it allow for more build up to the kiss (especially in staging where Christine isn’t near him for most of the song), but it also makes it looks much more consensual on both parts. I personally never liked Raoul kissing her and Christine being surprised. The original and the Australian staging show that they are both a little hesitant, but want to share that kiss together. And Amy and Blake show that very well, as evidenced by the photos above.

there are many tragic things about the final lair sequence in phantom of the opera but what gets me the most is the way christine’s kiss–a singular gesture of affection–is enough to change erik’s mind, crumble his motivations, bring down his facade of all-powerful villain. one second he’s making an ultimatum with murder in the balance, the next he’s pushing everyone away so that he can never hurt them again. the first loving touch he ever received was enough to banish all the hate in his heart, except that which is directed at himself.

To my younger (American) followers:

Even if the polls are ridiculous you still have to vote Even if the experts say it’s over you still have to vote Even if the newscasters have called your state you still have to vote

Elections are decided by the people who show up on election day. All the polls in the world don’t mater if you don’t go into the booth and make a choice. All the experts can be (and frequently are) wrong if you don’t go into the booth and make a choice. News media tend to call stats at 5% of votes tallied. If your polls are still open, you can still change things.

Don’t let a strong summer showing in the media dissuade you. You still have to show up in November. It does matter. If people see their candidate winning and decide that they don’t have to show up and be heard, there is a chance the other side will rally. You have to participate. No matter what.
