Sorry for not posting, my laptop died and my world has just been all over the place. I even packed away my altar because of how I was feeling, just so down. But honestly I miss it, and I miss the Gods... I’ll be coming back.

Stuffed Animals in Magic
I’m an adult and I still LOVE stuffed animals. While I can usually resist a little better now than when I was a child, I’m still tempted to buy one every time there’s an opportunity. Here’s some examples of how to use your inanimate furry friends in the craft:
🦁Sew a dream pouch inside of a teddy bear to encourage prophetic dreams! You could also tweak this to make it help with astral travel.
🐯Enchant it with all sorts of protection spells, set it in the corner of your room as a guardian to ward off malevolent spirits.
🐻Stuff with lavender and other calming herbs, hold it and smell it to calm and cleanse yourself.
🦁Make it a spirit vessel, and allow spirits to visit you inside the animal. (This can also allow you to cuddle with your spirit companions.)
🐯Use it as a poppet! Especially for cursing. Get a stuffed animal you don’t care about and treat it as you would any clay poppet (except now, you can stuff it with things too instead of just surrounding it.) You also have the added advantage of being able to smack it against the wall without causing serious damage.
🐻Draw a sigil on the stuffed animal. Perhaps one for creativity, and you play with the stuffed animal a little to get the creative juices flowing!
🦁Place a stuffed version of an animal associated with a deity in your altar. Hecate likes dogs, for example. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind that being there.
🐯 Enchant stuffed animals with good fortunes before donating them to children’s hospitals or nonprofits
🐻 Make a spell out of the act of making one yourself, sewing intent into every stitch.
🦁Use them in any spell to represent childhood, innocence, comfort, sleep, imagination, and simple pleasures.
feel free to add more!
This blog is cleansed & filled with good energy.

The Wiccan’s Glossary
Hard Witchy Truths to Acknowlege
You don’t know everything. There’s a lot you don’t know about the universe and how it works. Your personal belief system is not a universal truth that everyone must follow. Saying people are foolish or “will learn eventually” because they subscribe to a different belief system than yours is rude and imperialistic. Don’t act like you’re a wise old sage with all the secrets figured out, because you’re only human, just like the rest of us.
Science still matters. While a lot of what we do seems like we’re skirting impossible, we are still physical beings in a physical world. Eating random plants, drinking potions with hazardous materials, and overall being really unsafe about your craft WILL still effect you no matter how much energy you raise. Your healing spell is going to have to metaphysically fight the fact that you just physically swallowed a rock. No positive energies are going to cancel that out.
There will ALWAYS be haters. Whether it be from outside people who think your craft is a self-delusion, or long-time witches who think your untraditional path is a disgrace, you can’t please everyone. There are as many ways to practice the craft as there are witches and then some. There’s no hate-free path, so just accept that and don’t give hate to other people for theirs; you know how it feels coming from other people so why give it to someone else?
Magic won’t solve all your problems. Magic is a very powerful spiritual tool, but it’s not going to solve everything. You will still need to reach out, take action, talk to people, lock your doors, etc. The witch whose first reaction to literally everything is to cast a spell with no followup, and only seeks out knowledge through divination and nothing else will still have a lot of problems because they’re so separated from the rest of the world.

Honestly what kills me about witchblr is that every other week people will make soap box posts about how TERFS are nasty and witches of any gender are valid
But
Why do yall continue to post/reblog aesthetic picturesof/and or buy and share books that are openly transphobic with transphobic authors and have been called out as openly transphobic multiple times by multiple people in the community??
That don’t make no sense
I haven’t bought any books but I’m afraid I’ve shared posts so that said, can someone tell me who these transphobic authors or bloggers are so i can avoid them??
^^^^ This!!! It’s important to put your activism to work, meaning be thoughtful and apply it to what you blog, what you read, what you post, what you write, and how you act every day.
I wanna add a note though that sometimes it’s hard to avoid this altogether with Africana traditions because truthfully, we’ve got a lot of transphobia, homophobia, and other LGBT issues in black communities around the world.
So when it comes to the Africana traditions I practice, I can’t always avoid authors or sources that may have contributed to these problems, but I sure as hell talk about being non-binary and speak up on these issues when I can. Esp with regards to gender and cissexism in Ifá, hoodoo, and other traditions coming from my own perspective and experiences as a non-cis person.
Added: I should probably clarify. In Western, European-derived traditions (including mainstream, popular types of witchcraft) there are TONS of trans-inclusive, LGBT+ inclusive, non-cissexist, non-transphobic posts and materials. There’s no excuse for not drawing on that huge wealth of sources and reblogging material because there’s so much of it!
With most Africana traditions, we have a serious lack of materials, posts, and accurate information at all. We struggle to find that and to learn our own traditions because of centuries of slavery, colonialism, and other forces of oppression and racism. So that’s why it’s different when talking about Africana traditions and why I have to work on creating those trans-inclusive and LGBT+ inclusive resources since they don’t already exist enough to even find any. Although we can always use more of those resources in any type of magic practice too!
Hey so firstly thank you for bringing to my attention the fact that this is a similar problem when it comes to Africana studies as well. I didn’t really think about that so I’m going to keep that in mind for the future when I get back to studying again.
In regards to this shady lil post, I was originally referring to the New Age/Westerny side of Witchblr because this is the side of witchblr I ALWAYS see making multiple posts after posts in regards to TERFs and their ideology. Like every other day is there a post about witches of all genders being valid and transphobia being unwelcome to the community. And I’m not saying that other practitioners/the other parts of witchblr aren’t vocal about it. Because they are. But the New Age/Western part of the community is the ones I’m always seeing making soap box posts about inclusivity when it comes to gender and TERFS being evil blah blah yet be mad hypocritical about it
Bc this is also the side of witchblr I am ALWAYS seeing posting and recommending newbies to buy books that have been called out as openly transphobic before. This post was brought on bc even today did I see someone reblog on my dash another aesthetic post of that Witch book by Lisa Lister and her nasty self again. And it’s always different people in the community who I see share it. I’ve seen people recommend newbies buy the book, I’ve seen people post and share aesthetic pictures with the book as the main focus, I’ve seen people openly talk about how they found the book awesome and informative yet also say that the book isn’t inclusive but they like it anyway. Like…what? The author openly says in the book that she excludes trans people, you see this, but stick your fingers in your ears and proceed to say its quality anyway? Bc fuck trans ppl apparently?? Someone (i can’t find the post) even made a review about the book and it didn’t have nearly as many notes as the many aesthetic images/recommendation posts that include the book go around have.
What kind of hypocrisy is that? How can the community make constant posts about TERFS being unwelcome and transphobia being unwelcomed but books that other users have called out as transphobic still make it around the community? LIKE HOW??
How can one say “trans witches are valid and TERFS are bad” but then proceed to recommend and post about a book that literally in the first few pages talks about how the book is for “pussy power” and directly says trans ppl are unwelcome?
I’m not going to tag where I got the images from/who’s posts these are bc I don’t want to stir some shit up and have ppl start attacking the OPs but this is the sort of shit I’m talking about. There are more posts out there but a bitch lazy lol. These were all taken from multiple really popular bloggers in the community. I just wanted to show/prove with evidence what I’m talking about in regards to my experience on tumblr.
I love witchblr but it can be annoying and hypocritical as well. Like you can’t pick and chose when you want to be mad about something and when something is okay.
You can’t claim to care about ur trans witchy siblings and then proceed to push a shitty book like that. That’s fake and gross and does nothing for our trans witches. Don’t just be against something bc everyone else is doing it and it’s cool, actually do something about it when you see it. Don’t say that you care about your local trans witches and then…..do dat.
Like maybe I’m talking out of my ass bc im very much a cisgendered femme girl so what do I know about transphobia but like…come on now. Hopefully I’m not overstepping boundaries and speaking for/over trans people but I can’t help but think it’s hypocritical bullshit and that its not okay at all.
//finishes ranting
Lmao they got screenshots and EVERYTHING! 😂😂😂 Those books are trash anyway.
@witch-vomit Idk how others feel about this thread, but I deeply appreciate everything you’re calling out (as a sapphic nb person). thank you for the clarifications, thank you for the time and energy spent on this, thank you for the mf screenshots of this trash, thank you for acknowledging you’re cis at the same time. just thank you.
I checked out the book online to verify what you were saying about transphobia in the first few pages and noticed “Chapter 3: My Story - [G-SLUR], Sara La Kali and the Re-initiation.” Then I read the “About This Book” and found this…
“I thought… I’ll piss off Pagans for not being inclusive of all the possible paths. I’ll piss off men for not addressing them as witches. I’ll piss off the transgender community for not addressing them either. Yet this is the work I do. I do women’s work, and I’m definitely not going to apologize for that. That thought? That need to apologize? That’s the very reason why I HAVE to write this book. What I share is NOT intended to exclude others. But trying to be all-inclusive would totally miss the point.”
“I’ve studied not just the practices of my own [G-SLUR] tradition, but witchcraft in all its forms for over 10 years now, including… - The Stregheria of Italy - the roots and bones of Hoodoo - Shamankas - Mayan medicine women - Gardenerian and Alexandrian traditions of Wicca” [x]
In case yall didn’t know, Lisa Lister isn’t just someone who is incredibly transphobic and believes that witches can only be women. She frequently drops the g-slur in her book. She also appropriates hoodoo, indigenous shamanism, and Mayan cultural practices.
So if you’re promoting this book, you’re promoting transphobia, racism, and cultural appropriation in many different forms all at once.
Ugh. Disgusting.
Water Scrying
Water scrying is the art and practice of gazing into water to see the future or receive a vision. Water scrying is a great way for clairvoyants to develop their skills, but can also be done by anyone. -Mod J
To start, you are going to need a bowl or something that holds water. Preferably the bowl or water holding object should be a solid color inside so you don’t get distracted by patterns. Black, white, or a metal bowl are ideal because these are colors that are easy to gaze at for extended periods but any solid color should work.
Fill the bowl with water
Now set up your space. It helps to turn off the lights and have a candle or a few around the bowl giving some light but not close enough that you see the reflection in the water.
Now this is the hardest part, gaze into the water in the bowl and let your eye lose focus. Your vision might get a little blurry but try to fight the urge to look around and refocus your vision. After a while of doing this you might be able to correct the blurriness without losing focus on the water. Around this point when your gaze softens some kind of vision should appear in the water. It’s important to understand that what you see might be a real depiction of what your scrying for/about but it’s more common for you see symbolic images instead. Learning to translate these symbols takes some time and practice so keep working at it. Another thing to note is that you might feel like your mind is just making you see things in the water that isn’t there, and i guess on some level that is correct. The water it’s self isn’t what’s producing the vision, you are receiving because you asked to, and are using the water and bowl as tools to help perceive it.
Here are ways to help enhance your water scrying that i know of:
You can charge your bowl over night with tea made from certain herbs. I like to steep some mugwort and lavender in my bowl to charge it while i sleep and empty it in the morning.
You can a few drops of essential oils to your bowl while scrying, or before to help charge the bowl and water’s energy. The oily surface can also help keep you from getting distracted and gives your eyes something to focus on.
Another way to prevent distraction is to put a small crystal at the bottom of the bowl around the center. It gives you a fixed point to look at, but I’ve noticed for me that is often cut off some of the vision and everything will move around the crystal rather then appearing in the whole bowl.
Using your bowl for offerings. I find this helps charge and enhance my scrying bowl’s energy by putting offering in it when i work with other spirits and deities.
Sometimes it can also help to instead of building up the energy in the bowl do a cleansing and put some salt water in the bowl to soak.
You can also use moon water, sun water, or any magically enhanced water that might be specific to the type of reading you are doing. I find moon water is always good for all water scrying.
If you try water scrying and find it doesn’t work for you that’s alright. It’s not for everyone, and even those who do it regularly have off days where they can’t get anything to come through. So give it a few tries before you decide if it’s something for you. Good luck with your scrying! -Mod J
Pendulums 101
As requested by @birdsofthestrangestfeather, here’s my own little pendulums 101! 🌙✨
What is a pendulum?
In short, it can really be anything, as long as something is hanging from a chain or string and is able to swing. It can be a fancy crystal pendulum from Etsy or a local witchy shop, a necklace you already own, a pocket watch, or even something as minimalist as a string and bead/needle! Get creative; it doesn’t have to be fancy, any particular material, or bought, just as long as it works as a pendulum.
What do you do before you use a pendulum?
Cleanse, cleanse and cleanse! Unless you made it yourself (which if you did, you don’t have to keep reading unless you want to!) your pendulum has probably been through a lot! I’d recommend leaving it out in the full moonlight for some hours or overnight, running your pendulum a few times through sage or incense or even visualizing a white, cleansing light around your pendulum! Other options include letting your pendulum cleanse in sunlight, dirt and water.
Do a little research if you have a crystal pendulum to see what would suit that crystal best and otherwise trust your intuition on what would be the best way to cleanse your new pendulum!
How to program your pendulum?
Just like people, pendulums have different ways of working. My pendulum swings back and forth for yes while yours may circle around! To figure out or establish how your pendulum says yes, no, maybe and unknown/I don’t know, you have to program your pendulum.
If you want your pendulum to show you, ask it basic, obvious to answer questions. I’ll ask, “Am I six foot tall?” and my pendulum swings no so hard it nearly breaks! But when I ask, “Am I five foot three?” it goes straight to yes. Repeat this sort of thing until you figure out how your pendulum works so you’ll know when asking questions how your pendulum is answering!
If you’re more comfortable telling your pendulum how it’s going to answer, then go right ahead! Tell your pendulum to swing a certain way for maybe and another way for no, etc, etc. Make sure to test out the way you programmed your pendulum afterwards with basic questions!
Also, there’s always the option of using a pendulum board, which is a visual yes/no/maybe/unknown guide for your pendulum, to help program. You can also use these boards later on, if it’s your preference. Even when using one, though, don’t forget to test your pendulum and make sure it’s answering correctly with obvious questions.
How do you use a pendulum?
It’s quite simple and easy to use a pendulum! You simply hold the top of the pendulum between your fingers (I usually hold with my pointer finger and thumb) and keep a very steady hand. You don’t want to be shaky or moving it because this will obviously interfere with the actual answer. Once your hand and the pendulum is steady, keep it suspended above any surfaces and away from anything it would knock into. Then, go ahead and ask your question and wait to see!
How to read a pendulum?
Back to the programming of a pendulum, it depends on how you did that. Just be sure to give your pendulum plenty of time to settle into the answer and make sure it’s truly swinging or circling in the direction you think it is. If you’re not sure, you can always ask again!
Extra tips & uses for your pendulum
Congrats!! If you’ve reached this point, you know a lot about pendulums! Buuut, I do have a few more points to make…
🌙 Start off with harmless questions. It’ll take some time for the pendulum to really be in sync with your energy, so gradually build up from things like, “should I eat this for breakfast?” or “would purple be a good color to wear today?” to the stuff that actually impacts your life.
🌙 Once you get in tune with your pendulum, you can expand your uses for it. You can ask for advice on things you’re indecisive about, talk to your spirit companions or guides, do readings for people and even talk to your gods. They’re very useful all the way around!
🌙 Again, always make sure to let your pendulum have enough time to answer you!
🌙 Whenever your pendulum is acting up, not answering like it usually would or the like, give it a good cleanse. Just like other witchy tools, pendulums like to be cleansed often, especially if you do readings with it!
Thank you for sticking around and reading this super long post. I hope you enjoyed and found this information useful!
I absolutely adore my pendulum and use it often, so I definitely recommend that every witch give it a go!
Also, thank you to @birdsofthestrangestfeather for asking me to put together this post! 🌙✨
