White Dutch people claiming that racism is solved here especially pisses me off.
Even ignoring the sheer amount of racism against Arabs, anti-Blackness is so fucking common. Colourism, lack of representation, the disrespect towards Straattaal (a dialect of Dutch comparable to AAVE) where it's 'uncultured' when Black people do it, but 'Youth Culture' when white people do it. The amount of Blackface as late as 10 years ago in 'progressive' spaces and STILL in conservative rural places. Dutch people cannot say racism is an American thing when it's so embedded into our society
Learned something new about a Black dialect in Dutch 👀 but also, LMAO at the idea that racism is solved in the Netherlands. People are still alive whose folks moved to and lived in South Africa 😭
The Netherlands is incredibly fucking racist. People love bringing up the recent changes to the blackface holiday tradition as proof that things are better now, as if black protesters haven't been getting the shit kicked out of them every year by cops and white Dutch traditionalists.
Black civil rights protesters had to drag this country kicking and screaming into modern times, and it's still just only kinda sorta doing the bare minimum, as long as it doesnt require too much effort. And yet, fascists are still winning elections year after year.
Look up Quincey Gario, Jerry Afriyie, Naomie Pieter, Sylvana Simons. Look up KOZP, BTQResistanceNL, BIJ1. These people have been out on the streets consistently year after year fighting against Dutch racist and colonialist bullshit.
