Folk art illustrations for Elle Japan to accompany an article about fortune telling.
A couple of months ago I was asked to design a 4 fold menu for a high street Italian chain of restaurants. The project ended up getting shelved because the art direction was for a much more narrative illustration which isn't really what I do. Having seen the final published artwork, my style wasn't a natural fit to sit alongside the other two artists' work.
I decided to take one of my initial, rejected, sketches to final artwork. The illustration references classic fresh Italian ingredients, cooking utensils and foods in the style of vintage 1950s cookery book illustrations.
