His Dark Materials Season 3 | OFFICIAL TRAILER
His Dark Materials Season 3 (Final Season)
December 5th
BBC One and HBO today announce that the internationally successful co-production His Dark Materials, has been commissioned for a third seaso
In case you have somehow missed it - following the end of season two on BBC One this Sunday and on HBO next week, it’s been announced that His Dark Materials has been commissioned for s3!!
CELEBRATION!! 🍾 🎉 🥳🤩
Series premier, soundtrack and more!
Greetings!
Been gone for a while (summer and autumn took a lot out of me and I had to step back from tumblr) - but I’m back, in time for the series premier.
If you didn’t know, series 2 of His Dark Materials premiered yesterday on the BBC! However, if you’re elsewhere in the world, you’ll have to wait - as the HBO premier is not until next week.
There are tons of interviews and fun behind the scenes to catch up on if you want - like this BBC 1 interview with Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson! I’ll be posting some of those here as we go on.
Also, if you’ve missed it, part of the Soundtrack is out on Spotify - The Musical Anthology of His Dark Materials Series 2! Some really interesting titles there.
Take care everyone! And enjoy s2!
to our fellow his dark materials fans! (book and show alike!)
the time of the season two and the release of the novella ‘serpentine’ are almost upon us, and in anticipation of that i thought we could all come together and create for a fan week in honour of this wonderful book and television series.
the week will commence on october 5th. all and any types of edits/creations are welcome. if you can’t do every day or fall behind, no worries! just tag all your edits as #hdmsourcefanweek and we’ll reblog every single last one!
we did a fan week last year before the show had aired, so we would really encourage all new/show fans to participate as well! we want to know what you guys love about the his dark materials world. every category refers to the books, show, and any other interpretation of his dark materials.
day 1 (oct 5): favourite character day 2 (oct 6): favourite episode/chapter day 3 (oct 7): favourite dæmon day 4 (oct 8): favourite scene/moment day 5 (oct 9): favourite relationship/dynamic day 6 (oct 10): thing you are most looking forward to about season two/upcoming books day 7 (oct 11): free day
we’d love you to reblog this to get the word out and we hope to see all your lovely creations starting monday october 5th!
Casting news for S2!
We have Bella Ramsey (“known for her performance as Lyanna Mormont in HBO’s Game of Thrones”) as Angelica, a young girl from the world of Cittàgazze.
We also have our favorite angels! Oliver Monaghan and I-Kay Agu as Baruch and Balthamos respectively. While they are mainly prominent in The Amber Spyglass, they are both introduced in The Subtle Knife which the second season is based on.
Also in the article is more confirmation from executive producer Jane Tranter that while s2 doesn’t have a set air date yet, the plan is still that it will air in 2020.
Just about an hour left before there’s an episode 1 HDM rewatch over on twitter!! Join in with the community. The cast and crew will also be answering questions and talking about the episode!
“🚨ATTENTION🚨 This Sunday at 6pm UK time we’ll be rewatching episode 1 of #HisDarkMaterials and tweeting along with unseen sketches, photos
In the world of His Dark Materials, what would your daemon appear as?
this was a long undertaking but i’m beyond excited to post what i believe is the most comprehensive daemon-finding quiz to date, featuring 34 categories of animals and 285 total possible outcomes! from insects to owls to seals to wild cats, you’re sure to find a unique result that fits your personality.
tag or comment what your daemon would be! :) mine’s a cocker spaniel!
EDIT: the quiz has two parts, the category which this post links to (34 options), and then the specific animal within that category (5-15 options) which you’re linked to once you get your result!
The actor gives their first interview on the character's season 1 reveal.
SPOILERS FOR HIS DARK MATERIALS EPISODE 5, “THE LOST BOY”.
There, are you looking away?
Good.
The article above is a lovely interview with Amir Wilson - Will Parry - about his appearance in s1, his audition process and how it was filming his scenes. Some really interesting stuff!
Last episode it was a goose, this episode it’s a fish. HDM book readers were quite saddened to see the lack of inclusion of the heart-wrenching bit where Billy (or in the book, Tony Makarios) would clutch at his fish as if it were his daemon, crying out for Ratter. Well, an interesting tidbit that we learned from Jack Thorne’s twitter yesterday - apparently the bit about the fish was included in the script, and even shot, but for some reason it didn’t work (and Thorne also specifies on twitter that it wasn’t cut for time). Does that make you feel better about the change or not? Were you upset by the lack of fish or were you okay with how things played out? Let us know!
Some comments about Kaisa’s changed form.
For those of you who have seen His Dark Materials Episode 4, ‘Armour’, you might have noticed a dæmon from the books having taken a different form in the tv show. The witch Serafina Pekkala’s dæmon Kaisa (voiced by Poirot David Suchet) is not a goose, but instead a gyrfalcon.
While this has upset many people, birds are well-known for being hell to animated for CGI, and the VFX artist for the show already described making all the bird dæmon as “nightmarish”. This is actually the reason why there are no talking bird dæmons in the 2007 movie!
So while this might not make you less sad that Kaisa is no longer a goose, but this is at least an explanation as to why. You can at least rest assured that they did try it, they went in with the intention of keeping Kaisa a goose - but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. And thought definitely went into the change.
But hey - you can still make Kaisa Untitled Goose Game memes. He is still a goose in the book after all - and those are not going anywhere!

Philip Pullman weighs in on the changes done to the chronology of the HDM tv show.
Changes seem to be Pullman Approved.
What did you think about it, and how we get to see what’s going on behind the scenes, things we only realized later in The Subtle Knife that had been happening without our knowledge during Northern Lights?

More sheet music provided by composer Lorne Balfe!
This time, it’s Roger’s theme, “The Life of Roger Parslow”.
