Eh important things?

Hello! I’ve gotten many new followers in a hot sec so I thought I would put this up top cuz right now, unlike Happy, this blog is disorganized as all hell. (That man’s condo is minimalistic living he knows were all his shit is.)

Wanna Ship? - Yes let’s! Happy is bi and I love ships. With men, depending on his age, he’ll still be grappling with his sexuality. The younger he is the more closeted he might be. Tell me if you would rather skip that and just be a ship. That’s also ok, but that’s his default state of mind. Any ship can be pre-established if you want, or we can slow burn. Give this romantic man his love story! [For May muses to read in regards to the Happy/May canon ship] 

Smexy times tag is “Happy’s Getting It On So Keep Out” for folks not wanting to see ns/fw on the dash. Read Mores always break or just delete what’s under them all together so I’m not dealing with Tumblr’s broken ass.

If you follow me, you can send me stuff. I’m not selective and I will never be exclusive/mutuals only. Pretty hard to do that with a side blog so I’m not putting you through that nonsense. However I am pretty busy so I will miss stuff or need a few days.

The world worked in mysterious ways and she wasn’t about to question it. She had worked her ass off for years to build up her reputation as an artist and finally all that hard work was paying off. By some miracle she had been hired by Stark Industries to paint a mural in the lobby of one of their newest buildings that was set to open in a week and a half.

She would’ve taken the job no matter what. Having her name attached to a project like this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. But it didn’t hurt that the paycheck she was offered was finally going to be her ticket to her own apartment in Queens. While she loved her brother and her sister in law, she knew that she had overstayed her welcome a while ago.

After spending the entire morning sketching out her line work on the wall and preparing her work space and her paints she was finally ready to get started.

As she was about to make her first mark on the wall she heard a group of people walk into the lobby. Normally she didn’t mind working with a lot of noise. She preferred it actually. But it was one voice within that group that stood out to her the most.

Her head whipped around towards the group and her eyes landed on the one person she never thought she would see again.

She knew this job was too good to be true.

Happy hated press conference days. It felt too much like baby sitting a large group of teenagers. Always trying to sneak off where they weren't wanted, asking questions that were sometimes wildly inappropriate. And maybe Tony invited that kind of madness a little with his own outrageous habits. Luckily there were a few more security folks Happy could hand the group off to. And Happy had taken extra precaution to station a few more at the outside of the doors of the press room. No one was getting out past curfew today.

He made the group give the mural a wide berth, proud of himself that no one even commented on it. And avoiding May.

Besides he had more important things to do. He had to go check on the painter who had arrived before he had and make sure all of her credentials were in order. Pepper had hired her... and Happy had vouched for her. Of course. It wasn't a matter of if she was trustworthy, but Happy didn't want her getting stuck outside arguing with some random guy on his team because she didn't have the right badge.

Happy moved from the press room to the security office, picking up the badge and chit chatting with Bambi outside of Pepper's office nearby a little trying to get his nerves out... Trying to prove to himself he wasn't nervous, before heading back towards the lobby, new badge in hand.

How was he supposed to play this?

Happy waved the badge in one hand, clearly not doing a great job at hiding his nerves, striding up to his ex-girlfriend. He hadn't seen her in years. He hadn't seen her since starting this job. He took a deep breath, tried to look more confident than he felt.

"Hey. Hi, May. Here. Security badge." Happy handed over the lament badge attached to a lanyard. "So you don't get locked out." He shrugged, not realizing that had been the same thing he had said to her, giving her the key to his apartment. Years ago. When she still loved him. When she wasn't so disappointed and angry with him. When he hadn't been so damn angry with her for leaving.

“What do you want from me?”

“I want you to let me help you, Pepper!” Happy sighed, exasperated and frustrated. He wasn’t going to yell. He truly was not. They were both grieving, still. They both wanted what was best for Morgan above all else. They both missed Tony like air.

“Please, Pep. You don’t have to do everything alone. I can do a hell of a lot more than just checking in on the weekends. Lately, honestly? When I am here, I feel like you don’t want me around.”

"Got it." James replied. "I wouldnt want to get in that way anyways. I want to be picked because of who I am. I really want to help people the way my parents helped me. My life could have gone a completely different way, but they adopted me and gave me a good home, a good life. Everywhere they went, they made lives better. So I want to do that too. I really care about others and I volunteer in the neighborhood when I can. I love how it feels to make impact someone's life."

"Speaking of impacting lives," Happy nodded, considering all the other things the kid said, but hardly letting them show. The adoption story was a classic, and good for the kid to want to honor his parents and the general 'make the world a better place' inspiration. That was great vigilante starter stuff. Happy was here for the not so considered aspects.

"What's the costume situation? Are you hiding your face? Have you considered the impact being a public person will have on your family and friends? Is this something you've discussed with them? What do you parents have to say about all of this? You know it does speak to your integrity to come to me and not just ask your father for the open door."

“Someone worthwhile…at a Gala?” Tony snorted, finishing his soda and setting the bottle aside, “I doubt it.” He dropped his head back against the headrest, showing how raw and bruised his throat was. It was going to take some serious makeup to get him presentable for any events in the near future.

“Hmm? Right handed?” Tony frowned, leaning forward, thinking hard, then put his own hand around this throat, squeezing lightly. He switched to his left hand, humming, “Yeah, Stern is right handed.” He confirmed, nodding as the car wove effortlessly through the LA traffic, heading back to Tony’s manor.

“Why?” The omega leaned forward, putting his arms on the back of the front seat, wincing slightly. His whole body was sore, littered with bruises

"No reason..." Happy shook his head, glancing to his side as Tony leaned forward. He got a better look at the bruising around Tony's neck as the other did this. But after a moment he nodded his head, "Seatbelt, boss."

It was Happy's job to keep Tony safe. He planned on doing just that. Maybe paying a visit to Stern, sweet talking Stern's own security staff, a little business to business talk... Maybe bring a few hundred dollar bills to let them look the other way if it came to it. And give Stern a taste of his own medicine.

If Tony could open up a little more about it... It wasn't fair, putting them both at risk with Stain. But Happy needed to do something. Stop feeling so fucking helpless. Maybe crossing a line and getting into it with Stain would somehow help things.

He didn't want to think about getting fired. He wouldn't think about it. Tony had hired him, Stain just paid him.

"These gala things can't be all misery, can they?" Happy tried to change the subject back to something a little less serious for now. When they were home and more relaxed... If Tony let him help with anything... It wasn't in their nature to talk so seriously about what was really going on. But Happy wasn't sure how much longer he could ferry Tony back and forth knowing this was happening to him. Allowing it.

It was Happy's job to protect Tony.

"Of course, kid." Happy looked over towards Morgan while she got buckled up, not pulling away from the curb before she did so. Happy doubted he'd ever have kids of his own. He'd accepted that by now. And truthfully he didn't think he had the patience for them. But Morgan was different. She was a smart kid, an old soul, the little observer. She was a lot like her dad and mom in numerous ways. How could he not love the kid?

"How was your day?"

“I gotcha, boss…” Happy set down a cup on her desk in front of her and stood there with his own, looking down at his friend and co-worker, now turned employer, with concern.

“Everything okay, Pep?”

Happy didn’t often call her by her name, or nickname, but maybe it was better to remind her she had someone at the office she could talk to.

"I still got it." Happy smiled, trying to appear more nonchalant than he felt. "It's almost one, baby..." He couldn't help it, groaning as he had to shift his weight to nudge open the bedroom door with his foot. He was working out, his arm strength was good and his back was holding out better than it used to a few years ago. But he was pushing 60.

Still, he could help it when he looked over and saw Cam sleeping so sweetly, nestled in his arm, against his now rather generous chest. Mouth open. Happy had tried very hard not to laugh and shake and wake him. He instead carefully moved and risked putting himself in the hospital wanting to carry his husband to bed, like he used to when they'd first moved in together.

"I think you were drooling." Happy teased with a perfectly straight face before laying Cam down on his side of the bed. As his back wasn't screaming at him for trying to carry a grown man across the house, his kissed Cam's forehead. "You're were very cute."

"Sorry-- I'll explain what I can, May, just-- stay put..." Happy eventually had to abandon his car and simply get out and walk to his own apartment. There were too many abandoned cars, a few good many accidents. And while normally he would be someone on the ground to help, he was too concerned about May. Too worried about any word from anyone about Tony and Peter. Pepper and Rhody had already checked in with him, and a few people at Stark Industries had watched their co-workers crumble into dust. Mid-filing, mid sip of coffee, mid sentence... He could help move cars after.

It made no goddamn sense. The world was panicking.

"May, turn on the news. Something... terrible has happened. That cosmic thing Tony and the others were trying to fight..." Happy covered his mouth with a handkerchief between speaking, as he was unsuccessful in not... stepping in remains on occasion.

"Peter went with them. He was supposed to be grounded, but, evidentially he followed Tony into... some damn spaceship." Happy paused, "I'm sorry, I can't be there with you, May. There's-- everything blocked up. People are just-- gone. Cars left behind. It's like some switch turned on and just wiped out random people."

“Yes I get stressed out watching you fight and yes that means I bite my nails from the stress. But I don’t want to stop coming to support you.”

"I told you, May. I don't want you here. I love you. But--" Harold sighed heavily. He had told her before. They had argued over it. She came anyway. And now she was seeing him like this, her nails a mess, her heart rate to God knows what.

"But I told you, I don't want you seeing me like this. I can handle it, but I don't think you can. Please, May--" He kissed her head. "Just get out of here. I'll see you at home."

He had no idea he was doing exactly the same thing his father had with his mother. Only his father had told his Ma this was 'no place for a woman' and 'go home and have dinner ready'. But still. They had wanted to support the man in their lives and the men had sent them packing.

If she had a nickel for every time she had heard that she would never have to work ever again. First from her father, and now from the one man she had thought would never ever hurt her in the same way.

She wasn’t even a fraction as strong as he was, but she still shoved him with all her might when he kissed her.

“I truly thought you’d be different. But you’re just like him. If you don’t want me here then I won’t be here. But don’t expect me to be home when you get there either. Goodbye Harold.”

“May—“ Harold rocked back as she shoved at him. He did sound disappointed but not at himself, though he will regret it later. He will look back on this moment having not said anything, having thought she merely needed to cool down. He thinks he knows she’ll be home when he gets back to their small apartment in Queens. He thinks she’ll forgive him after he tells her she’s the most important thing in the world to him. He thinks she’ll fall into his arms after he tells her he’d give up boxing entirely if she asks it of him.

He doesn’t get to say anything of it. And by the time they do speak again it’s too late. Because he said nothing now.

Later that night, after finding her suitcase and several clothes and bits of jewelry gone, he’s surprised to find it’s the missing toothbrush that makes him realize she wasn’t just over reacting or trying to get a rise out of him.

He starts in on a few beers and ices his face and falls asleep on the couch. Harold won’t call May until the next afternoon, knowing she’s staying with family.

“May— Don’t hang up. We need to talk. If that’s how you really feel, then we ought to discuss things, right?” Harold can’t help but still be angry. He didn’t get to say or do anything to make it better last night and now he’s too hungover to want to now.

"Hi," Happy shook his head, confused by her rather casual greeting. But more concerned than anything. He glanced around the room, seeing a few bags not yet unpacked. The kid must have been asleep in another room. Happy moved to join her on the couch, sitting close with his body language open enough. If she wanted or needed a hug, she'd get one. But he was playing it cautiously.

"What's going on, May? What happened?" Happy kept his voice low, not wanting to wake whoever May was now overwhelmed with caring for, whoever this poor kid was that just lost their parents.

The omega slowly picked up the bottle, opening it and taking a slow drink. The carbonation burned down his throat into his chest, but the sugar would help boost him back up so he didn’t crash as hard when he got home. He leaned back in his seat, dropped his head back, his bruised throat bared.

His eyes drifted closed, and he inhaled deeply, taking in Happy’s comforting scent, trying to ignore the scent of the senator still embedded in his skin. As the car pulled away from the curb, he breathed out a long sigh, lifting his head. He was glad the back windows were tinted, so he didn’t have to worry so much about the paparazzi.

“You want to teach me boxing, Happy?” He grinned, sipping slowly at the soda his driver and bodyguard had brought him, “You take such good care of me, huh?” He tried to joke, but it came out too soft, “Thank you, Happy.”

"'Course, boss." Happy said after a moment. The way Tony had said it got to him. The way Tony smelled... Happy could smell the despair that lingered. He hated the way these things were set up. He hated the way Stain treated Tony, he hated the way Stern treated him.

Like it wasn't obvious. He knew next week or sometime soon there would be a function where Stern would try to get Tony alone. To hell if the Senator thought he was going to have a chance for that... Happy stuck to Tony like glue in public. So he could prevent those kinds of things. That was his job, after all.

But sending Tony off like this... Happy felt helpless. Mentally he kicked himself for not offering boxing lessons sooner. He would love for Tony to have the opportunity to defend himself. But he knew Omegas weren't really allowed that luxury. The least he could do was teach Tony how to take a hit and get back up.

Disguising it as 'unwinding' wasn't a total lie either. Happy could take a hit, he'd made a whole career out of it, just out lasting the other guy for the most part. He was sure Tony had a lot of anger to let out. Happy would gladly take those hits. But he had to start with the basics.

"I think we could both use a few rounds of beating the shit out of a bag."

The young omega held the cold soda bottle to his forehead, sighing at the throbbing headache pulsing behind his eyes. There was a gala in a week, and Stern would definitely be in attendance. These alphas always thought they had some continual right to him after the contracts. It was honestly exhausting.

“I don’t know how well I’d do at that,” Tony sighed, “But I’m willing to give it a shot if you think it will help.” He agreed, enjoying the air from the AC, “Do you think Obi will ever let me stop doing this?” He asked, looking up to meet Happy’s gaze in the rear view mirror.

“Just…I know it helps the company and all, these…marriages.” He sighed, “But…there has to be something else I can do to…”

Happy glanced at the younger man in the rear view mirror. He frowned deeply, fighting back the urge to tell Tony what he really thought about these contracts, what he really wanted to do about Stern and others, and even, maybe especially Stain. But Stain, technically, was the one paying him, the one managing Tony’s money, the one controlling Tony’s life and by extension controlling Happy’s employment.

“I don’t know, boss.” Happy said, his hands white knuckling the steering wheel for a moment. His voice was a bit quiet but he looked up at Tony again, not wanting to sound defeatist. “Maybe there’s somebody worth meeting at this gala Friday night. We can hope, right?”

Someone who would look at Tony and not see dollar signs and stocks and power. Someone who saw Tony for the genius he was, the quick, funny, generous young man who was hurting even more than he wanted to show. The guy who didn’t feel he had anyone in his corner.

Happy swallowed hard, his gaze growing hard again and to the road. “Tony… is Stern right handed?”

OPEN STARTER for PRIDE MONTH

SAM stood near the edge of the park, rainbow flag draped over his shoulders. No Captain America gear today, though a few folks still recognized him anyway. He didn’t mind. He smiled as a kid waved at him shyly. Sam grinned, gave them a salute, then crouched down and handed them one of the little shield stickers he'd brought just for this. ❝For a future hero.❞ He said with a wink. The kid beamed.

He stood again, taking a long look around — drag queens, couples dancing in the grass, someone proposing under a giant balloon arch, and a flood of colors. He didn’t know everyone here, but he knew he belonged and so did they. And if anyone was looking for a little safety, a little hope, or just someone to walk with for a while — Captain America was right there with them.

Sam tugged the flag a little tighter over his shoulders. ❝Now this is what freedom really looks like.❞ He said. ❝ — Alright, and I'm admittedly dying to have one of those ridiculous looking ice creams over there. You want one?❞

"Sam, you know I'm trying to keep off sweets. My doctor-- Holy shit they have cherry cheesecake funnel cake. You're paying."

Happy was dressed casually, not something he did very often at all. But it was June and it was fucking hot, so shorts and a black teeshirt with "Bi & Badass" in the appropriate colors it was. It was a debate between that shirt and "Straight was my phase" (though it had been a long phase.) Both shirts given to him by Pepper and Tony when he'd casually mentioned his gaze drifting to women... and men. He had hand waved it, but really, it was touching. Now even more so.

Happy debated the heavenly saturated fried fat of a funnel cake over the delicious cooler idea of ice cream as they walked towards the long line. And he had to hand it to the confectioner, the Trans sundae with blueberry, strawberry and vanilla scoops of ice cream as big as his fist with matching syrups dizzled over it? That was starting to sound really tasty. The Bi sundae was raspberry and blue raspberry sherbet and something called taro for the purple. He wasn't a sherbet guy and not that adventurous.

"What are you getting?"

"I think I've learned how to show a bit of mercy." Natasha said with a small smile.

"I fink you broke my nos'd," Happy covered his face, applying the right 'stuffy' inflections to his words. He knew it wasn't broken, he wasn't so far away from his boxing days yet. He uncovered his face, showing he wasn't even bleeding when he decided either A) He didn't really want her to feel badly that she might have really hurt him and B) Remembering she was a trained assassin and not the sexy assistant Tony had hired. Well, at least she wasn't the assistant part. In other words, thinking on it, she probably knew exactly how hard or how soft her blows were.

He tossed the boxing gloves in his arms onto the floor of the ring before lifting the rope to let her out of it first. She'd wiped the floor with him (and luckily not literally like the last time she had stepped into Tony's ring).

"I gotcha, didn't I?" Happy asked with a smirk, though he knew, he full well did not. "Admit it, you were a little worried."

Natasha had not expected for her hits to be that hard, so when Happy tried to convince her that his nose was broken, she wasn't so sure. She would have expected some cursing and a lot of pain from Happy, maybe he could handle that type of thing, boxing background and all. Natasha was about to say something when his hands dropped to reveal he was fine.

An eyebrow arched up. He was trying to get her going. "If you think that's what it takes to get a woman going, I feel sorry for you." Her lips curved up into a sly smile before she slipped out of the ring.

She fixed herself and slipped into her shoes. "You keep putting yourself in this position. If you wanted to talk, all you have to do is ask." Natasha said, nodding to the ring. It was a toss-up for her on why Happy kept asking her to fight him. Was it living for the good ol' days or being around a woman who knew what to do?

"Well, I always enjoy talking to you, Nat." Happy's eyebrow rose at the smile. Was... she flirting with him? He never could tell with women. That was probably 99% of his problem with shooting his shot and failing spectacularly. He'd always flirt back, but when they were only being friendly he found himself coming off like a creep. Bad for a security guy. How did Tony do it so effortlessly?

"You're a good fighter. I like to think I still got it too. And, sure, I admit, knowing you've probably killed men before and think I'm worthy of sparring with is a bit of an ego trip. But... yeah, I like being around you. What's not to like?"
