Earrings by the Masriera atelier, the most famous jeweller family during the Catalan modernist movement (Catalonia's equivalent of art nouveau but with a strong emphasis on Catalan traditional crafts and symbols). Their descendants still make jewellery in the same style, some are the same designs and some are new ones following the style.

one of my favorite random little details in King of Attolia is the conspiracy room. a random little room in the palace, too small and unfurnished to gather in, too fancy and out-of-the-way to use for storage--there's really nothing it's good for and no one's ever there, so of course people end up using it for clandestine little meetings. and there just happens to be a decorative latticework ceiling :) with an empty space above it :) big enough for someone to hide in :)

it's just such clever architecture/rulership/rulership mediated through architecture. we can't hope to stop nobles from having illicit meetings to discuss their treasonous conspiracies, but we can subtly encourage them to do it somewhere we can eavesdrop :)

the only negative comment I have received at all so far in my new job is my boss being uncertain if we're allowed to show shoulders/bra straps (neither are mentioned in the firm dress code so this is a schrodingers situation that serves only to annoy me). Great opportunity to say to everyone that women's dress codes are kind of absurd in their vagaries and go more off vibes than anything, and it's ridiculous that we are still so incapable of adjudicating propriety in clear terms.

people really want the star wars trilogies to suck (which they do) because of finn's sidelining (which did suck) which is squarely to blame on racism (not untrue) and the prioritization of reylo—which is where I have to stop the whole train of thought and go, you know, that was more core to the presentation of the films than anything else, I think that was maybe in fact the entire story the sequals were built around, and Finn was meant to be one of two major love interests for Rey hunger games/twilight blockbuster style, which I think got scrapped as a focus both because of sexism punishing the films in reviews for doing a plotline that seemed to be a hit with a particular sector of women and racism that means we still cannot have a black man and a white woman have an interracial romance on screen in a genre film that is not about race. Additionally, what specifically Finn got sidelined *for*, ie what was added in that wasn't intended from the beginning was actually Poe and Rose, two other non-white characters who did stellar jobs, one of whom was so beloved as to have his death written out and given a major plotline in the second movie (at the expense of his Black costar) and another of whom was so viciously attacked that she has less than 5 minutes of screen time in the third film and deleted all her social media. So. Its a little annoying when people reduce that to just Reylo getting love for being white when every progressive casting decision with regards to gender *or* race was trashed by a vocal segment of the public, and in fact the gender stuff seems to be stuff that most people On Here are happy to trash as well. The sequels were a fucking mess but theres this consolidated narrative around why and it feels insane to me that Kelly Marie Tran being bullied off the internet and her career seriously impacted isnt even a footnote in most of those narratives.
