'Devils Horn' sunrise during a partial eclipse
previously on: stuff i did today
so a few days ago I accidentally spilled some hot chocolate on my copy of Durrantâs the cloudy mirror, (which critically evaluates the strengths and biases of the historian Sima Qian) and i was in the uni gym for 1 hour painstakingly drying the pages with a hairdryer
today: i thought it would be funny to officially make an offering of some hot chocy to the Grandaddy of East Asian History himself, Sima Qian.
I brought a bar of whittakerâs just for this lol. no expenses spared.
Sima Qianâs Special Hot Chocy has 3 squares of dark chocolate, 1 tsp of sesame paste, 1 tsp of decaf coffee, a pinch of cinnamon, 2 marshmallows, a wafer stick and 1 cup or hot milk. now, i cant be sure that i am the first person in history to offer Sima Qian a cup of hot chocy, but i can be sure that this cup is the most unique, delicious and decadent!
Sima Qian was not present in person so I drank it on his behalf

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Send me a Fandom: B5
Babylon 5:
The first character I first fell in love with: Ambassador Delenn
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Londo Mollari
The character everyone else loves that I donât: Michael Garibaldi (I mean, I don't think that anyone really loves him, as such).
The character I love that everyone else hates: Lennier (I mean, I don't think anyone really hates him, as such)
The character I used to love but donât any longer: Lord Refa (apparently he's "problematic" or something? Cancel culture at its worst)
The character I would totally smooch: Susan Ivanova; Delenn; Talia Winters.
Marcus, if he shaved.
The character Iâd want to be like: May God grant me the serenity of Delenn, the wisdom of Delenn, and the cheekbones of Delenn.
The character Iâd slap: Garibaldi.
A pairing that I love: Marcus/Neroon
A pairing that I despise: Lyta/Byron
Lord Refa is a great character! An awful, awful person, but like, as a sniveling, snide, coward who puts a monster on the throne because he thinks he can ride that evil to the top of society, man, what a performance.
I remember reading that the actor who played Refa was so hurt when his character's death came about that he went to see JMS who had to reassure him that the fact he was getting such an elaborate on-screen death was proof of how excellent the performance had been.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I was being sarcastic there.
I sometimes forget that other people know about Babylon Five and it is not a show exclusively I watched.
Every single person I know who did football in high school, without exception, has a chronic injury. Many regret what it's done to their knees and back, even major organs like the brain.
There is no serious legislative push to ban high school football.
Also, like, if you want to talk about social pressure on minors to undertake activities that will result in regrettable, irreversible damage to their bodies:
No one, *ever*, tried to persuade me to transition.
My gym teacher tried to persuade me to try out for the football team almost every single day that I was in junior high.
#i firmly believe that the reason why concussions and brain damage in general#are not taken nearly as seriously as they should be#is because of football#if we take concussions and brain trauma seriously then we have to acknowledge the risks that children are undertaking at even#high school level football#but we can't do that#because the kids need to play football in high school so they can play football in college so they can join the NFL#This time I'm really gonna queue it.
Not a single one of my wife's fingers is completely straight. If you look at them closely -- which I have, many times, over the past 22 years -- you can see where they were broken, over and over, taped in place, and where she just kept fucking playing.
When I first met her, she used to joke about how her coach said, "I could get more than that out of a pig if I kicked it hard enough," and that was the nicest fucking thing he said. Two decades later, she's like, "Yeah, that man verbally and physically abused all of us for years."
There is at least one football game she played in high school that she simply doesn't remember, because she was a linebacker. She got a concussion. She got up and kept playing... or so she's told. She doesn't remember, because she had a fucking concussion and they let her keep playing.
I hate football so much. It ruined her back, her knees, fucked up her hands... everyone was so obsessed with how tall she was, how broad-shouldered. No one ever pushed her to transition, but I fucking wish someone had at least suggested it. That would have hurt her so much less than FUCKING FOOTBALL. Like, it would have been actually beneficial to her.
I heard that one of the actual reasons that organizations like the NFL have tried so hard to downplay CTE and other injuries like it is because theyâre terrified that moms will refuse to let their children play football anymore and that entire massive industry will come collapsing down because of it.
That fucking scans.
Wendover did a video about this! It's already happening that the people playing football are starting to trend poorer as parents with money get concerned, especially among youth football. They sponsored flag football into the World Games and then into the Olympics as a bid to get a potential replacement on deck in the event the CTE makes things impossible for them, although it's a different enough sport that this may not occupy the same cultural niche.
There are many parasites like Elon Musk who have built great fortunes on the public's fear of wealth redistribution, and the greatest horror for them is that they're losing that fear.
This stuff is great but it doesn't clear up the issue. So I wanna quickly.
There are two things that people use racism to describe.
Racial Discrimination. This is explicitly treating someone different based on their race. This is largely what people mean when they hear 'racist' and think 'being mean'.
The belief that certain groups of people are inherently different, and that that difference is determined by 'race' or ethnicity.
What @jamellebouite.net is referring to is the second thing. This is different to the idea that some people are biologically different. Its different to the idea that people from a different culture act different. It is seeing those things, grouping those differences by race of ethnicity, and ranking certain races or ethnicities as better or worse.
So yeah, grouping people and classing them as inferior or superior, is the core of racism.

the funny thing is. I originally typed out "fifth rule of fandom is everything goes back to gilgamesh & enkidu" but then I thought 'no, I can't trust that people will be familiar with the epic of gilgamesh'
I should have known. nerd ass website.
yeah i like to give my blessing to the most pathetic looking weak little knight at the tournament. she canât even look me in the eye when i give her my flower and she stutters out that sheâll do her best or something of the like. i think its funny when she has to cry and beg my forgiveness and i get to say âsuch a shame, i suppose my hand in marriage will have to go to someone elseâŠâ and then i get to hear her whimper like a dog. ive done this like 6 times alrea-

monks debating whether vows of silence should still allow you to leave emoji reacts on the monastery groupchat
So a guy I went to middle school with now works in the vatican and according to Cam, the rules on:
Whether you can leave emoji reacts in the groupchat
Whether you can leave regular messages in the groupchat
Whether you can HAVE a groupchat
Whether you can have Electronic Devices
-vary from one silent monastic order to another, but none of them have ever successfully banned "Long trail of increasingly hostile post-it messages on the fridge".
