About Me!

My name is Red, I'm almost 30 years old and based in the UK.

My heart belongs to cosplay, Bioware, CD Projekt Red, The Elder Scrolls, D&D (although, I am sans friends to play with and that sucks), naps, collecting stuff that interests me (teddies/plushies, figurines, bones, crystals, prints, etc.), weird animals that go unloved (I have pet rats, and they are amazing), music that I can daydream about being badass to, and so much more!

I am chronically ill and disabled and have been since 1999! Here is a post about it.

Wow, it's been a while.

I stopped cosplay work again because things got on top of me, and I wanted to adhere to the things I'd said I'd do for myself. So, I took a break. All of my work is stored safely away, and I want to get back to it in the new year. 🖤

The bathroom mirror is perpetually marred, no matter how often I clean it.

I got to cross something off my bucket list three days ago. What thing, you ask? This tattoo! I've wanted it for closets 10 years, but for many reasons chose not to get it done - until three days ago, that is!

Ny tattoo artist is a truly wonderful human being who drafted this design and knocked it out in just under four hours. It's entirely black and grey, as I'd wanted, and I adore it.

I know that body art and modification is divisive, but I live by a covenant of "don't comment on someone's body" and I always hope that others will do the same, especially if they don't agree with or like tattoos, because getting this one done has done nothing but make me feel incredibly happy and confident. 🥰

Classic Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind Makeup Test

If you've seen my two latest posts, you'll know that I've been a forced prolonged hiatus. I'm determined to get back to cosplaying, but every time I look at my unfinished Commander Shepard cosplay, I feel incredibly overwhelmed despite the intense love I feel for the project, and the joy I get from working on it.

My best guess is that I'm still not fully healed emotionally more than physically, and so there's thought of working on what is essentially a full armour build is too much, for now.

And so, I've decided to work on something less taxing.

I've wanted to do classic Priestess Tyrande for years and years, but I used to tell myself that I couldn't cosplay classic Priestess Tyrande unless I was skinny. Now, I say fuck that mentality. I said that to myself when I was at my worst with my ED, but I'm not that person anymore. So here's a makeup test for Tyrande, whom I'm working on until I'm well enough for Shep. The eyes and hair are edited in, which I think is fairly obvious, but the face is all me, baby!

I haven't been well enough to work properly on my Shep, but I got some elf ears from my sister for Yule, so I had to try out a casual... Ren fair-esque... elven tavern wench? Vibe?

Just popping by with a quick update!

I have been very unwell, on and off, for over 8 weeks. It's been exhausting, my sleeping is phenomenally fucked, and I am plagued by fatigue and pain.

However! During this time, I've been looking at my Shep armour, and because I'm an idiot, I have decided to redo pretty much all of it, having developed my EVA working skills over the last year. Right now, I'm resizing some patterns because I'm out of contact cement and can't do much else. I'm excited, though!

I don't have any cosplay updates rn, because life has been kicking me in the arse over and over. I've needed time to breathe and decompress, which has been hard given that I've been up to my eyeballs with hospital visits and such.

I've been spending a lot of time playing video games, because those are my biggest source of escapism and comfort. Baldur's Gate 3 has been a life saver over the last two months. If you've been adventuring in Faerûn lately, how have you found it? Show me your characters!

I've had to make some tactical decisions about what elements of my Shep cosplay to make, as I am, again, running out of foam (REEEE). I've drafted and traced out patterns for the second forearm piece(s), and may have enough to make the second shoulder, but I don't have enough for any of the leg armour (double REEEE). SO! I decided, as I was bored, to make the belt! The pattern I have for this is great. However, making this damn thing was tricky for two reasons:

I wildly overestimated how wide I was at the waist (thank u, body dysmorphia).

There are lots of little pieces, straps, and details that for someone with shaky hands and visual impairment is hard to get right.

I have to take an inch out of each of the waist arches, and add the back (which is where I'll add the closure, probably using velcro), as well as two hip plates but, before I even got to that, I went back to my reference photos, and realised that there is a little... piece that I don't know what to call, that I hadn't patterned. I'm going to call it a front embellishment. It's annoying, but I figured that I could just eyeball it, and I did, and it worked, and I feel like a god.

I thoroughly enjoyed figuring out how best to overcome the challenges, though, and I'm very happy with this little piece!

I am leant over a little bit in the last photo here, so the proportions are off - it does in fact fit me perfectly. I have some soft sanding to do, which is fine, then I'm going to add the iconic N7 emblem, finish priming the bits that need priming (the abs), then... IT'S PAINT AND WEATHERING TIME! I'm nervous about that, tbh. It'll be my first time painting EVA with Liquitex, and I need to make sure that when I'm mixing the colours, I can get some consistency with them. Excited excited, but nervous nervous!

Hi, friends! I was at the hospital today, for my blindness. Things did not go as expected. Here's a short version:

I went today expecting treatment, but that didn't happen.

Instead, the news was unceremoniously (but kindly), broken to me that surgery is my only option. The injections shouldn't have been offered in the first place as they will not work.

I also need some preventative laser and the aforementioned injection into my right eye to stave off the complication that has occurred in my left eye.

Hi, friends. I just want to let you know that yesterday morning, something went awry in my left eye, and at the moment, I am functionally blind in said eye.

I went to the hospital and am waiting for urgent treatment. Fingers crossed it will work, but if not, then I may need surgery to restore the sight in my eye.

As you may expect, this update took me a long time to write, and I won't be able to work on my Shep cosplay for a while until my sight has improved.

The silver lining here though, is that I have to use an eye patch to help my right eye do all the work, and idk... I think I can pull it off.

I decided (impulsively) to add the N7 Breather to my femShep cosplay. I'm using Pepakaura for patterning and adjusting it a bit because of my tiny head. I'm going to start working on this tonight! 🖤
