I don't know if it's the depression speaking but these days I find it incredibly hard to enjoy anything about the Internet.

Literally every website has become a thousand times more inconvenient, bloated with promoted or recommended shit, stupid UI/UX changes pushed by out of touch billionaires.

The tipping point this week was Google changing the regular "Web - Images - Videos - Etc." tabs with fucking stupid ever-changing search suggestions, making the site a thousand times less accessible and so much more annoying to use

I'm tired. I want forums back. I want ugly html pages that give useful information back. I want to connect with other Internet users in a meaningful way again. Fuck modern corporate UI design. Fuck social media. I want out.

one thing i hate about being “out” as autistic is suddenly all communication errors are your fault. unclear directions were given? your fault for being autistic, you must’ve misunderstood directions that were “probably perfectly clear.” not enough actionable information was provided for you? it must just be your autism, you should’ve picked up on what wasn’t said. they didn’t actually tell you what you were supposed to do and expected you to read their mind? your fault, not the allistic’s for not accommodating you or just saying what they want. because apparently it’s a one way street where autistics have to bend over backward to conform and placate allistics. its your fault even when they’re 100% culpable. i hate it

I think about this once a month probably since it happened but ONE TIME literally TWO YEARS AGO

There was this woman that came into my place of work wearing a hot pink romper. And it was, like, with the pants. It was a professional looking sort of jumpsuit

I’m all about hyping up other women so I was like OH MY GOODNESS YOU LOOK INCREDIBLE and at first she was like THANK YOU

But here’s the thing

I do not wear bright colors. Every one of my outfits has to have some element of black in them. Most of the colors I wear are desaturated.

So this girl?? Wearing a hot pink piece from shoulder to ankle?? That speaks of CONFIDENCE and I’m all about it

But as I was going to acknowledge this, I said

“Especially since—“

This girl. This girl was just feeling herself. She smiled and glowed because it was HER DAY goddamn it!! But these words came out of my mouth and her face turned so quick into one ready for war. She looked at me like she was going to carve whatever sentence I uttered next into my skin with her fingernails

I realized what she thought I was going to say. “Especially since you’re so big!” That’s not what I was going to say

But my headass blue-screened. I could only concentrate now on the insult. If I dared to utter words, those would be them, and I didn’t want that

Even if that were true (which I don’t think it is), that only strengthens the case that autistic traits are exacerbated in environments that can’t accommodate for them

Currently having an ethical predicament in my head because like

I believe that America is in an economic depression

But the government and Fortune 500 corporations aren’t willing to admit it because they’re still making money and the stock market is still supposedly doing well

But that’s because corporations have been spending the last several decades convincing the American people that convenience is a necessity

But as soon as you argue that, then accommodations for disability become even less accessible too

I’m specifically thinking, like the spoiled brat I am, about my AirPods

They’re a very important part of my lifestyle for helping me regulate my emotions through music, creating a safe space for me through noise cancellation from unpleasant stimuli, and doing all that while minimizing my own presence while I live in my parents home through the nature of being earbuds.

I was briefly considering getting another pair because the ones I have now are starting to have audio issues and being able to rely on them for longer periods of time would help my productivity

But people who refuse to understand neurodivergence aren’t going to understand that. They’re going to hear me say one thing and then do another

“If we’re in this depression, how are you buying AirPods?” “If you don’t support corporations hoarding wealth, why are you giving your money to Apple?”

I can’t tell these people that having AirPods increases my spell slots and shortens my cooldown time

What is considered “luxury” and “necessity” is so subjective to what an individual’s needs are, and that by itself is fine

“Convenience” is a luxury to some people and a necessary accommodation to others

But consumerism blurs the line of “luxury” and “necessity” by using the concept of convenience

This conflates all of their meanings to be “convenience”

But that also fuels stigma for the disabled, and the poor, from people that are more well off than them for whatever reason

“Oh, you haven’t upgraded your phone in some years? Girl, you’re so far behind, how is that brick still running?”

“You know your money is tight but you’re gonna use it on yet another pair of AirPods? You’re so reckless with your money, no wonder why you don’t have any”

And somehow, in a way, those people are right. At the end of the day, I’m still shelling out an ungodly amount of money to Apple because, god damn it, I live in tandem with their product and I haven’t seen a replacement for the sound filters anywhere else yet.

And I know I hate that but I don’t know who to blame
