Level 1: Asylums are scary because there's crazy people there.
Level 2: We shouldn't treat mental health facilities as objects of horror because it stigmatises mental illness.
Level 3: Asylums are scary because there's psychiatrists there.
this is nothing like a cage you guys. its a chain-link enclosure
i have a desperate suggestion
me too

actually tbh pregnancy as a concept would not suck so much in fiction if women were allowed to be mothers and also fully fleshed out characters outside of that role. a lot of men in media get to be fully fleshed out characters even if they have children; the mentor role is infamous - but women don't particularly get to occupy the same three dimensionality men do when it comes to guiding children. which is a shame because i find stories about the interiority of mothers or women authority figures to be some of the most fascinating. but in the eyes of society, mothers are demanded to be perfect in a way fathers aren't, so having a flawed woman mentor figure is much rarer in media.
A lot of people on here who are up each other's asses in queer discourse would be way better off if they could understand that contradictory statements can be true for different people.
Not everyone has the same life. There is no one way the world works. Different people understand themselves differently than you understand yourself. You should believe them when they tell you about it.
> Tumblr in UK and Brazil demands govt ID to view "explicit" posts
> Tumblr famously intentionally false flags any and all posts by and about trans women as explict
just like. for the crowd.
here's the sexual content guidelines saying nudity is ok
here's the bit from the termination email telling you you can make a new account as long as it doesn't break the same rule
here's the guidelines for what counts as explicit (not mature, aka grounds for content deletion)
here's the section telling us that you will always be able to respond to content getting flagged as explicit (lie)
here's the section where it says you will be notified when your accunt gets terminated, and that the appeals are reviewed by humans (both lies)
and by the way, posting a single thing against ToS isn't supposed to be grounds for deletion,
if u call urself a misandrist I'm going to assume ur homophobic. I'm gonna assume that ur at the very least weird about trans women like me, that you're going to judge them based on how they pass, on how out they are, on what level of transition they are at. I'm gonna assume ur racist too. like. idk "misandry" very feels like the sorta "feminism" someone is really into when they're in high school and carefully making sure to never think about anything.
and do you believe yourself to be an unfailing arbiter of who that is? and is it truly all cishet men? do you hate men of color, if they are cishet? what about intersex men? why not just hate bigoted people? why find groups of people, groups big enough to undoubtedly contain marginalized people?
misandry so quickly turns into "African/Arab men are especially dangerous, since rape and violence are part of their culture! I'm right to be scared of them in particular, and we NEED less immigration to keep women safe!" if you've never had the displeasure of seeing these types of posts on radfem blogs when you've gone to block them, then I envy you. if you think you're above this as a white queer, you're exactly the kind of person at risk of being recruited into it, because you won't question yourself when you see such thoughts emerge.
"can men be lesbians?" bestie in 100 countries women can't be lesbians is this really the most pressing issue rn
A woman not shaving or wearing a dress or wearing makeup or wearing femme clothes or having styled or long hair or caring how she looks or using a masc name or whatever else is actually a neutral thing and not a sign of her being depressed or giving up or being sad or whatever
"weaponized incompetence" is about falsified incompetence being intentionally weaponized. it is not accidental behavior, it is not being unable to function in the ways that would make you "competent." it is toxic because of its nature as a consciously manipulative behavior and how it is often a tool of the patriarchy. comparing it to anything else is cruel. executive dysfunction and disabilities are not examples of weaponized incompetence.
a person knows when they are weaponizing incompetence. please, please take care and be kind to yourself if you worry that you may be doing it accidentally- that is not weaponized incompetence, and i'm sorry to anyone who has ever felt anxious about that. you deserve better. we deserve better. being disabled is not a moral failure or manipulative behavior.
Reminder that:
The Christianization of Europe and the witch hunts are two completely separate things.
The witch hunts took place in the early modern period, well after Europe was Christianized.
The witch hunts were driven by conspiracy theories. It's literally a predecessor of QAnon.
Many conspiracy theories of the witch hunts were repurposed antisemitic conspiracy theories. (For example, blood libel and Satan worship.)
Lots of Christians practiced folk magic. They didn't usually call themselves witches.
Witchcraft was associated with polytheistic religions by Christians. Polytheists didn't call themselves witches. Whatever they were doing, they had their own words for it.
Modern witchcraft is a modern construct. It is not a revival of a genuine pre-Christian tradition of any kind.
Modern witchcraft cannot be "colonized" because it's literally a modern creation made by white people. However, modern witches are capable of doing colonialism, such as when they promote pseudohistory about other cultures.
I think the solution to kids on the Internet is to have specific, kid friendly spaces on the Internet. Kids wouldn't come across "adult content" on YouTube if barbie dot com still had flash games and this is a hill I will die on.
Oh! Then I know the EXACT person you should be mad at! Michael O'Rielly! He's the one that gutted the Children's Programming Rules, which covered internet as well as television.
HELLO?
#so the death of the Saturday morning cartoon is THIS motherfuckers fault?????
Indeed it is! The FCC controls how much of broadcasting has to cater to children and that includes how educational that programming has to be, and exactly how much and in what way you are allowed to advertise to kids. That's why for the entire 90s and up to the early 00s, kids shows had shorter commercial breaks, and ads that talked about a website had to say "ask your parents before going online", and those websites had to be non-commercial--i.e. they could not be shops, and could not have any way you could spend money or were encouraged to spend money. That's why Barbie.com was flash games, and O'Rielly LIFTING that ban is why Barbie.com now takes you directly to a storefront instead.
If you're mad about Saturday Morning Cartoons, dark patterns in ads targeted at children, online protections for kids, or wondering why educational children's shows aren't as much of a thing as they used to be, get mad at the FCC and the person in charge of it who is gutting the Children's Brodcasting Rules (sometimes called the Kid Vid Rules), because those rules control all of that!
While O'Rielly is responsible for gutting the rules in 2019, he was replaced in 2020 by Nathan Simington as head of the FCC, and Simington resigned in June of this year. The post remains vacant as of the time of this writing (August 31, 2025).
And a side note: Things like KOSA and SCREEN and all those other censorship bills that use "think of the children" are not going to protect children at all; if you want to protect kids online, there is already a way to do that it's called the Kid Vid Rules and the FCC is the one that can update and change them to keep up with the times! It doesn't need a congress vote, it already got voted on in 1990!
The bubble is nigh.
Can everyone who makes video content do a Deaf bitch a favor? Watch your shit with the captions on and the sound off, and then do another round of editing to fix things including but not limited to:
Captions cover the spot on the screen you put the information I need
The dialogue is captioned but not the song you have playing that the dialogue is responding to
You only captioned the person on the screen, not the person off screen who is also talking
No captioning of critical sound effects (alarms, bells, dogs barking, etc)
Speakers are not labelled at moments where it is not clear on the screen who is talking.
Captions cover the spot on the screen that you put the information I need!
Other d/Deaf people welcome to add.
This post brought to you by the fifth video tutorial I could not follow because the bad, auto-generated captions covered what I was trying to watch today.
Someone needs to tell parents everywhere that a child never complaining is NOT a sign of a mentally healthy child, and it is, in fact, the complete opposite of that.
