see, doof made norm for a completely different purpose and with a different relationship in mind than the one norm wanted
doof saw them as like ball-busting besties - norm was someone he could vent to without consequence, without responsibility. he created a safe outlet to deal with his feelings, something a bit like the stable antagonism he later found organically with perry. and until perry, he did not expect to get those feelings back. doof saw norm as a sounding board, someone who didn't need anything from him, but norm immediately saw doof as a father figure whose approval he could earn. it put doof in the position of someone expecting too much from him, and this collapsed into low-key resentment and just generally taking him for granted over time. norm is too much a reflection of doof's own neediness for them to get along often. doof likes to project his emotions onto people who appear more aloof than him, and doof is also always the first to withdraw when he gets offended or upset, because it is easier than getting hurt. norm tried to put doof in the role of parent when doof was already feeling like he was failing in that regard with vanessa, and it took doof a long time to acknowledge that norm could love him despite that constant failure and that he could love norm without triggering his own fears. but he's in therapy now and can articulate the ways in which his neediness created something good and unexpected and dependable, and seeing the good in norm is also about seeing the good in himself, even when he was at his lowest. and rather than shutting down the possibility that norm has his own needs and sees himself as a son, not a sounding board or just a friend, he can allow real change ("change! coins!") to happen in their relationship without feeling the need to control its boundaries. when doof says norm is better than family, he means he thought he came with none of the baggage that doof associates with family. he wouldn't leave. he wouldn't hurt. he wouldn't cry. but through norm, doof can see that you can create a family without meaning to, because you don't get a say in how much other people love you, even when you might let them down.
A PHINEAS AND FERB MOVIE FOCUSED ON *PHINEAS* AND *FERB* !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elevator irritator is so funny for the subset specifically because the "locked up in an elevator with your crush" trope is so hot and gives space for so many things to happen but they made Perry so unbeliavable hateful towards Doof this season there was no trace of possible sexual tension even if Doof did actually take off his clothes in the middle of it
i'm sure many are making this point but the choice to create a tearjerking emotional scene out of retconning the timeline so that heinz built norm fresh out of his divorce and vanessa knew norm since she was a little girl, and THEN for heinz to treat norm like some expendable garbage he threw together last tuesday (because he kind of was, when he originally made him as the inator of the day in season 1, and before he had any semblance of personality) puts heinz into so much of a worse light. i'm not sure how any of us are supposed to take it really. but it is objectively, kind of funny that they did that
i feel like it's possible 'norm was secretly part of heinz's life all along for the past 11 years' will become generally accepted canon, i might end up coming around to it too, MAYBE. but i wish they didn't do that. because i'd rather see a direct approach to the topic of norm as he actually came to exist in the show, as a day's experiment that stuck around and developed more and more sentience and personality. and now he's insisting he's your son and wants to be treated as such. do you owe him that? in the original show it was a fun question because heinz had made norm like, two months ago at most. he's a dick to him, but over the course of that summer we already started to see their relationship develop, in the season 4 ep where he helps norm date chloe (remember chloe?? we will never see her again). we see vanessa sarcastically brush norm off as a "brother" but nevertheless treat him kindly and commisserate over having doof as a dad.
so with s5 we're in a weird place because we have a disney-enforced return to the original status quo which negated the possibility of that relationship continuing to develop in a positive direction, for Comedy's sake. and now they finally confront the topic in the most. explosive way possible. that blatantly paves over the original show's writing. and genuinely makes heinz into an unsympathetic monster of a father, to a son he created over a decade ago, who's bonded with his daughter??? i don't think i CAN accept that, if i'm working in a fanfic space or whatever the hell, it has such heavy implications for his character that the writers were NOT thinking about in their quest to create a big emotional moment that people share a video of on twitter/instagram and go 'aw' and forget about.
i'm genuinely curious what they'll do with Norm 2.0 in season 6. are they gonna finally ditch the abusive bickering comedy partnership that is doof and norm. i'd really like if they did, and tried something new that might also be funny, or funnier (we already have mono and carl, we're good on abusive daddy issue duos). but right now it's feeling kinda unearned.
I just compared the sizes in Chibiverse and OG series.

An Irrational Crush
Hey girls, I've honestly been wanting to post something about Wild Kratts for a while. I guess the time has come. I've seen a couple of Chrismand-related posts, and OMG—I had to do this. Gaston is just a crazy guy—I mean, the guy fought a Komodo dragon—but a crazy man in love? That's a different story.
I thought it would be interesting to try to portray how this "crush" completely takes him off his game. Why would you fall in love with your enemy? And more importantly, how do you act when that happens? Do you fight it, do you accept it, do you become more aggressive or softer?
Anyway, I'm leaving the drawing here without any blurring because I think the girls and… Martin's legs? Deserve their place.

“Let them be a family, cowards in Disney”
- my thoughts while watching the episode
They are friends your honor(bugs does not wonder how Mickey got inside his house cuz they are toons, thats the least surprising part lol)
Bugs is lucky that Warner doesnt overwork him like Disney does with Mickey
