Tenna's funnytext has unused sound effects
Most of Tenna's funnytext pictures play a sound effect.
There are a few that should play a sound effect, but don't:
All these pictures have a sound assigned in the code, but it doesn't play because it's missing from another piece of localization code. (It's likely that the sounds used to work before chapter 3 was localized.)
There are also a few sound effects that don't play in the Japanese version though they work in the English version:
All the sounds that do work now play when you click the picture in the text dump.
I've been working to make the Deltarune text dump more lightweight and add a search function.
This should hopefully make it work even on devices and browsers that can't handle the current version. You can test the update here:
Before I release it I'm looking for feedback. Please reach out (here on Tumblr or through the feedback form) if something doesn't work or if you have a suggestion or any other comments. (I'd especially like to hear from screen reader users and Safari users but anything is welcome.)
(EDIT: This has been released.)
Recent Deltarune text dump changes
Added Tenna's funny text.
Added the in-game font for Japanese text.
Made the page load faster than it used to.
The item description of the Burnt Pan is slightly too long so the period overflows to the next line outside the textbox.
Joel Kalvesmaki: [...] it allows somebody to find out in the case of two people which one is going to win [...] You take the names and you perform something that we commonly call gematria on them to get a number. […] So you reduce that mod 9. […] And you use that to determine who is going to beat whom. […] Earl Fontainelle: So if you had a name that added up to 9—after having gone through these combinations—presumably you would always win in everything you did? […]
Chara moment
The Deltarune text dump now has source code links.
This can help make sense of when lines appear, who says them, and how they relate to each other.
Many thanks to the Wiki team for maintaining their source code viewer.
thank you so much for your work on the text dumps!! i cannot put into words how useful they are lol.
i was wondering if you know whether you or anyone else has put together a text dump for the japanese text of undertale? there is an option to switch to the japanese text in the deltarune dump but i did not see that in the undertale one. no problem at all if there isn't one, just thought i'd ask! thanks again :)
Not that I know of, so I've put up simple text files.
Japanese:
Bilingual (so you can ctrl+F the English text):
Some day I want to do it properly but until that day this might help.
so lanino and elnina not having Ñ's in their names is not a technical limitation they just don't have it...
The text dump didn't have the diacritic:
And the Ñ doesn't show up in the source code:
Huh. Let's see what "other.ncon" does:
Oh, OK! It's hardcoded to draw tilde sprites above the 6th and the 16th character of that specific textbox.
The original 8bitoperator JVE font already had a glyph for Ñ. I guess that didn't survive being imported into GameMaker.
So I wouldn't rule out "technical limitation"
The Deltarune text dump now has all the text from chapters 1-4. That includes unused text, the Japanese translation, and copious spoilers.
(Warning: the page is pretty big. It might lag your browser.)
Happy ctrl+F-ing!
A plain text file (DELTARUNE.txt) is now available thanks to popular demand an anonymous suggestion in the feedback form.
If the normal text dump stresses your computer you should try this instead.
(I've heard some reports of the text dump not just lagging people's browsers but crashing them or never loading. If this is you and you'd like to help me figure out why that happens, please get in touch.)
As it's only a text file you can easily save it and do what you like.
In 2018 during the chapter 1 car ride I didn't notice Undyne had both eyes because I was distracted by Froggit. Holy shit it's Froggit. Hi Froggit
The Deltarune Text Dump is such a useful resource if I wanna quote in my post or double-check something without, like, rewatching an Entire Playthrough all over again, but it IS kinda funny how because it is purely a TEXT Dump, half of Tenna's dialogue gets lowkey Spamton-ized.
"First, we must create a VESSEL."
"The CAGE, with human SOUL and parts!"
"Copies are monochrome, but you colored each of us in with care."
"Why don't you photocopy a Kris to play with us?"
"Between your fingers, a faint gray crease glittered stubbornly. You can never wash it all away."
"No one can choose who they are in this world."
"Who do you think taught you how to laugh? How to cry?"
"...When did you start being yourself?"
To be loved is to be changed in form.
The rainy kid in Hometown asks about tsunamis:
Raise Up Your Bat calls your heart an ark that guides your way through the waves:
In the Pluey minigame you bring cats to an ark while it rains:
The second board in chapter 3 has Atlantis:
Will there be a flood? Should we worry?
The Deltarune text dump now has all the text from chapters 1-4. That includes unused text, the Japanese translation, and copious spoilers.
(Warning: the page is pretty big. It might lag your browser.)
Happy ctrl+F-ing!
