Big mood
GRABS you by the THROAT. stop using "narcissistic", "slow", "depressed", "bipolar", "schizophrenic" and the literal R slur (i'm not saying it.) etc etc etc as insults. I don't care if you're neurodivergent and doing this you're still an ableist prick
why do closed captions keep pretending english is the only intelligible language? when a character speaks spanish what exactly is forcing your hand to transcribe it as "[speaks foreign language]" rather than "Si"
This intersection of Anglocentric bias + ableism and audism makes my blood boil.
People commonly defend this practise with "But the audience isn't meant to understand!" or "It's inconsequential!", neither of which actually address a) their assumption that the [ideal Anglo] audience wouldn't understand, or, perhaps most crucially in the context of CCs, b) that this is a failure of accessibility. A hearing person who speaks that "foreign" language will know exactly what's being said. A deaf or HoH person – the people CCs are primarily intended for – who speaks or reads that language should therefore have the exact same opportunity to understand. It very much feels to me like an assumption that we deaf and HoH people couldn't possibly understand any language but English, so there's no point in getting those languages transcribed for us. I hope it goes without saying how profoundly audist that sentiment is.
There is also, I think, a profound misunderstanding or ignorance of Deaf culture at play. Which is to say, CCs in English-language media are written with not only the assumption that the audience will be native English speakers, but that all d/Deaf and HoH people speak English as their first language, so all other languages are as supposedly foreign to them as they are for hearing people. But sign languages are their own distinct language. BSL, ASL, ISL, AusLan, NZSL etc ≠ English (and are indeed different from one another), LIS ≠ Italian, JSL ≠ Japanese, and so on. So, if you follow the captioners' logic to its natural extreme, all non-signed dialogue is "foreign" to many d/Deaf and HoH people and should therefore be labelled [speaks foreign language] / [speaks English] / [speaks own language] / etc. – which is, obviously, a terrible idea that perfectly highlights all the biases implicit in closed captioning.
TL;DR: your accessibility feature fails in its function as soon as you fail to transcribe all spoken languages.
Nova's tips for beating the heatwave:
1. Check that you have good access to shade trees, a shelter custom made to fit you and all your friends, and plenty of good airflow
2. Find the hottest, sunniest, and least windy part of you pasture and lay down
3. Make sure you look as much as possible like you have died of heatstroke
4. Get your friends in on it

i'm getting the sense some of you are not actually forklift certified.
well damn . egg on my face
THE PLOT THICKENS @averagejoey2000 explain yourself
I can't believe this is how I'm finding out that I got a scam forklift cert.
I took the cargo ops class at school but my teacher explained that it doesn't give a certification and I'd only be okay for ship's crane and the school forklifts. she said I could take an online exam and get my cert. I paid 60 bucks.
I'm googling and I'm seeing a lot of resources saying that the online programs cover the classroom part of the exam but not the in person practical aspect.
29 CFR 1910.178 (l)(2)(ii)
but I did the in person practical shit at school.
the back of the card even had fancy numbers on it. I couldn't have known that this isn't the one. this website sounded more official than certifyme.net, and there wasn't one with a .gov address.
so, I emailed OSHA, and they said that so long as I live and work in California, there's no such thing as forklift certification. I have to be told how to do it every time I get the job.
Update: I took a certification class in shipboard Material Handling Equipment at my federal job. *now* I'm forklift certified, but only on ships and piers and only for this company, but also rated to forklift explosives and hazardous materials. Also I'm a woman now.
What a ride!
Congrats on the certification (and transition) @averagejoey2000 ! May you transport many heavy objects with your forklift.
2 days after that (may 15th) I got lesbian married!

gamecube controller is absolutely unrivaled in terms of controller design, like controller design went downhill so fast once nintendo got convinced to stop adding joysticks that were notched for her pleasure.
she's so beautiful. the sensory feedback as to where ur joystick is pointing. the buttons layed out by use amount. the textured joystick which feels so nice. the cute organic shapes. her kinda bug face. literally shes so everything to me....
she's all tied up,,
gamecube controller shibari is beautiful
"mental health awareness month" falls short for me honestly. I'm sick of these half hearted, psychiatry-focused posts where people reel off a list of symptoms and tack on "and we deserve to be treated equally anyways" at the end. Consider: I'm Mad and I want people to stop being oppressed for their Madness.
I want people to stop being forced into hospitals and stripped of their autonomy.
I want people to stop being backed into a corner where they feel their only options are homelessness or suicide.
I want people to stop being murdered via their monetary benefits being cut, even though they desperately need them.
I want mentally ill, Mad and neurodivergent people to be supported in all areas of their life and enabled to live in the community. Not locked away in institutions.
I get that we need people to understand mental health better. But so much of this month is people watering down inclusion and equity to mean "Mad people should just stop being visibly Mad and then they can be accepted".
So. I don't know. "Mental health awareness month" falls so fucking flat for me. I don't want to assimilate, I want to be respected as an autonomous being and enabled to live a good life. Not fed another platitude about how "CBT will definitely help this time, trust, you just need to do it for a fifth time and try harder to get better!".
(Hey. Maybe that's just my experience. But I'm very tired already.)
Man this store has a weird playlist, it's all Weird Al songs but with the lyrics switched out for ones that aren't funny.
i hate being self aware because i can't be edgy and sad without looking at it and being like girl you literally can just not do that lmao it's literally easy sauce
nvm forget the hate part i actually just think its really funny
I love the world and everything in it.
i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.
Being an American is fun because you’ll say something like “I think children should be educated and fed” and some Christian will pop out of nowhere to call me a filthy Communist and ask me why I hate white people, men, and god
