bucky and steve at coney island; first of all, Steve stood up for himself. He stood up, and he stood up again when someone pushed him down. If Steve didn’t WANT to go on that ride, he wouldn’t have done it. And Bucky NEVER belittled Steve. Everyone saw his physical ailments as something that would hold him back. They treated him like glass. And Steve HATED that. But Bucky didn’t do that. Steve was much too precious to him, and if he wanted to be treated like everyone else, Buck was damn well going to do that. Because that was STEVE’S wish. He would push aside any concern, or need to treat him delicately. HE TREATED STEVE LIKE A HUMAN BEING AND HIS BEST FRIEND. Not like he was going to drop dead at any second.
Steve was very against the idea of people treating him as charity. He didn’t like being helpless. So Bucky tempts him with the idea that he could EARN his keep– just like how he’d prefer it. If he couldn’t PAY his rent, bucky would be so welcoming to the idea of him just doing little things that steve could do; chores that he would normally do himself. But if Steve earned his keep, he would be more open to the idea of staying. NOT because he’s taking advantage of him? He was taking Steve’s ideals and personality into account.
YES Bucky expressed doubt in Steve’s ability to join the army. The kid was NOT EVEN 100 POUNDS. HE WAS 95!!! If Steve enlisted, and went into actual war [ and not basic ] he would have DIED. Point blank. He had pneumonia from BROOKLYN winters. Do you know how bad it would be? Cold, rainy, muddy, germy, blood, infection, running, climbing, hiding, and ALL OF THAT TOGETHER. Many men in 10x better condition than pre-serum Steve didn’t survive world war two. DOCTORS were telling Steve that he wasn’t healthy enough. If Bucky WASN’T expressing doubts and caring for Steve’s life, wouldn’t he be the shittiest person in the world?
I think you mistake their fun, playful banter as MAKING FUN OF and DEGRADING HIM. They had fun, they poked at each other but not in a way that HURT. that’s just how COMFORTABLE they were with each other! So many friends have playful banter because they can embed their affection underneath and it’s only something the two of them GET. It’s special to them how comfortable and compatible they are.

Bucky’s father died in the war. He grew up with a single mother and THREE YOUNGER SIBLINGS TO TAKE CARE OF. The reason I bring up the single parent issue, is because Bucky had to grow up fast, and become a pillar to his house. He couldn’t even finish school. There was no way a single mother in that time period could rake in enough money for FOUR CHILDREN and herself.
Loki had everything. FUCKING everything. Yes. Learning your parents lied to you was very wrong and hurtful. But they were STILL HIS PARENTS WHO LOVED HIM UNCONDITIONALLY. Especially Frigga. He tried to commit GENOCIDE against his own race, and he was UNPROVOKED????? He did so of his own accord. Wanted to wash them out so his father would think him worthy of a throne. Loki tried to kill Sif, Hogun, Volstagg, and Fandral!!! For treason, you say? Loki committed treason. like THREE TIMES. 1) interrupted the Prince crowning. 2) went to Jotunheim with Thor even though he SHOULD of stayed and 3) letting in the frost giants AGAIN. A case could totally be made for four times, but I’ll be generous.
AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION BUCKY’S HAIR IS BROWN AND LOKI’S IS BLACK. Bucky’s is grown out to establish the amount of mistreatment he endured!!! The torture, the years of being FROZEN and UNFROZEN. Loki was in prison for trying to take over the world.
LET’S NOT FORGET, THAT BUCKY WAS TORTURED AND MIND WIPED FOR A COURSE OF 70ISH YEARS. Loki was POSSIBLY tortured [ I’m not even sure that’s been confirmed, but either way ]. He didn’t get his mind scrambled, BUCKY WAS PRACTICALLY LOBOTIMIZED. Now– Loki’s memories of Thor and his youth were perfectly fine— he knew what he was doing, he knew what THOR would think of him being tyrannical. Thor BEGS him to stop. HE FUCKING STABS HIM. Bucky had no sense of right and wrong, he had NO autonomy at all. Any chance at recovering a thought that might hinder his mission was RIPPED FROM HIS MIND.
Yet, after Steve confronts him he regains a sense of himself. It’s wiped. The second time, Bucky gains more of himself and SAVES Steve from drowning, even when he has no idea what to believe. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY SUGGESTING THESE TWO ARE ALIKE. AT ALL.
