oh absolutely. the racism, antisemitism, fatphobia, misogyny and transmisogyny in those books are all extremely par for the course for 90s/2000s kids lit. yknow not that it makes them beyond criticism btu i always find it silly when people say 'it was always there' or anything bc tons of kids authors wrote casually racist and transmisogynistic storylines and characters and Didn't go on to become the global figurehead and pursemaster of a hate movement
