i don’t know about you guys but the main reason i am still on tumblr in 2024 is BECAUSE it is the most cloutless least influential social media app out there and that is the experience i am after. absolutely none of this will ever translate into significant attention or real success in my life and that is so beautiful.

i think any conversation regarding banning tiktok that insists tiktok is actually a force for good misses the point

it doesn't matter if tiktok is the next library of alexandria or if it sucks shit, the problem is that the US government shouldn't have the authority to limit americans' access to the internet so dramatically. the problem is other social media corporations lobbying to ban their opponents. the problem is pretending data harvesting is just fine as long as we're the ones doing it, diverting attention away from how companies like facebook have already harvest and sold way more data than tiktok could ever dream of collecting for the chinese government.

my cat hates taking his pills. the only way we can get him to eat them is to turn it into an elaborate pantomime - we take the packet out of the cupboard slowly and hold it up, saying “oh!! what’s this? what’s this? a TREAT? a TREAT for louis????” while making surprised faces. we offer him a pill… then, before he has a chance to sniff it, we wag our fingers at him and replace it in the packet so it becomes a Tantalising Forbidden Mystery. we continue doing this until he’s so confused and excited that he will eat the pill as fast as possible, just so he can find out what it is before we can take it away from him again. as soon as he’s eaten it he looks utterly disappointed and betrayed, like a child who just ate a delicious sweet only to find it was a chocolate-coated brussels sprout. it never gets old

napping is easy because your brain is connecting to the Sleep Server at low traffic hours for your region.

when everyone is trying to get on the Sleep Server during high traffic hours, night in your region, the lag is at its worst and many people can’t even connect to the server at all that’s why falling asleep at night is hard thank you for coming to my ted talk

on a more serious note, some people have medically nocturnal circadian rhythms (such as myself). we are the biology-assigned night watch when the rest of the group is asleep. we keep an eye out for predators and other harms

i only found out a couple years ago that id been sleeping in the wrong twelve hours (or attempting to, anyway). sleeping during the day has been a gamechanger for me. when you sleep opposite to your circadian rhythm, you get whats known as “permanent jetlag” for literally every moment that youre awake. i grew up in this state. its fuckin wild

i will say, there are some society-imposed downsides- things arent open at 3 am as often as theyre open at 3 pm, because stuffs made for the diurnals, not for me. so sometimes i have to stay up real late (for me) in order to get stuff done

but its better than staying up late all the time. im no longer so damn groggy, im more clearheaded and ready to take on the night. and on the plus side, i live with diurnals, so the night is time that i get to myself

if you have trouble falling asleep at night as opposed to during the day, try experimenting. not all humans are built for the day
