Anyway can we meditate on this, fellas?
Every time I point out that disabled people are chill and that presuming we are violent monster maniacs is a bit ridiculous, at least one fuckwit has to be like, "oh yeah? What about [condition]?"
"Oh yeah? Well my sister works at a special school and she gets bitten by autistic kids all the time!" Okay. I was an autistic kid who went to special school. Didn't bite anybody, didn't see anybody bitten. I also worked in SPED for a while as an adult. Never saw an incident. Hm.
Oh look, studies show that violence is common in pretty much all schools because exploring and experimenting with violence is actually really common for kids aged three to nine. But oh, we notice it more when the retards do it. Why is that. Could it be ableism. We discuss it as an especially common and problemaitc thing when the retards do it. Why is that. Could it be ableism.
"Oh yeah? Well I'm a psychiatric nurse and my schizophrenic patient punched me!" I am a diagnosed schizophrenic. The whole reason I'm not working any more is that I lost years of my life in psychosis. Now, follow me here, I never assaulted anybody, but I have been assaulted a number of times since I became ill, always with the excuse of "well he could've become violent." Hm.
Every single major study on violence and schizophrenia finds schizophrenics are not more violent than the general population but experience violence at massively, massively disproportionate rates. In fact, they usually find the majority of violence in these contexts is perpetrated by support workers, family members, and police. Hm.
It just doesn't work mate. I'm sorry. You not only look ignorant, you just become useful fodder to prove my point that ableism is a real social force, because you've seen some disabled dude on social media talking about being disabled and thought to yourself, "aha, this is a fine time to be ableist." Come on.
absolutely love abusing the power that comes with 3rd person limited pov and just ignoring things and being vague sometimes. does the character know all the details? no? then I don't have to either.
I’m so pro abortion I feel insane hearing any other take on it
Even lefties I know will eventually concede to some situation where they think it’s right to force someone to carry a child against their will as if that’s not one of the most inhumane and cruel situations to put someone in regardless of any other factors
The way adult fandom people hold indie online creators and cartoons to a much higher standard than their actual local politicians. You could be putting that energy into terrorizing and protesting conservatives at your town hall and actually make a good material impact on the world but instead you're background checking everything the trans woman who made the amazing digital circus has ever said
you can always start making a beautiful life for yourself even if you’ve lost some years to grief. your entire life does not need to be a perfect story, and it always doesn’t have to be only good or only bad. it’s gotta be a lot of both.
i hate you private jets i hate you bitcoin i hate you cars that go 200 mph i hate you golf parks i hate you yachts i hate you huge mansions with a pool i hate you luxery resorts i hate you exessive wealth causally killing the planet and using up ressources we all need
“okay but it’s their money! They can decide how to spend it!” Yeah okay but it’s our atmosphere! and water! and no amount of wealth should give you free reign over that!
scariest thing is when you're a kid in a huge family run by women and then you go over to a house that's deeply patriarchal & misogynistic. i remember when i was 8 years old and i got invited over to my friend's house for a big birthday party with her entire extended family. after the enormous lunch that served over 30 people, i got called into the kitchen to do literally hundreds of dishes, alongside all the other little girls and women. not only were the boys our age all excused from the meal to go play, but all the grown men went to the living room to watch sports together and drink. i couldn't believe it. i asked why some of the grownups were watching TV but the girls had to clean up and all the women just laughed and laughed at me.
as a teenager when i learned the word "sexist" and used it the older women balked at it and tried to convince me this arrangement was a good thing actually because women need space from men, and cleaning in the kitchen after parties is a sacred domain of safety. and i was like actually i think needing private safety from your own husbands, sons, and brothers sounds even worse. like do you understand you somehow made this even more troubling than it already was
recency bias is worse now than it ever has been before
either it will be okay or you will die 👌 which is fine
actually tbh pregnancy as a concept would not suck so much in fiction if women were allowed to be mothers and also fully fleshed out characters outside of that role. a lot of men in media get to be fully fleshed out characters even if they have children; the mentor role is infamous - but women don't particularly get to occupy the same three dimensionality men do when it comes to guiding children. which is a shame because i find stories about the interiority of mothers or women authority figures to be some of the most fascinating. but in the eyes of society, mothers are demanded to be perfect in a way fathers aren't, so having a flawed woman mentor figure is much rarer in media.
if you're calling a recipe a "one pot" recipe, I better not find in there that you want me to remove something from the pot and put it aside. you think I'm letting that slide on a technicality? know your audience
Book that was good: I liked it 👍
Book that was bad: this sucked 👎
Book that I wanted to like but which failed to live up to my hopes: I am going to write 10,000+ words explaining exactly why this book wronged me
living in a world where any person whos funny on the internet can become a microcelebrity is fascinating because on the one hand it means we've got all these streamers and youtubers and indie creators with no PR team or training who quite understandably dont handle that level of attention with grace sometimes, especially if they got launched to fame as a literal teenager. on the other hand i think some fans become TOO aware of that and start going "cmonnn theyre just a little guy you cant hold them to Standards" and im like. well thats still a human person who is making a substanial living as a public figure while being an asshole. theyve been an asshole for years. at some point it feels like this guy is getting paid to be an asshole.
i think something a lot of people don't get is that years of mocking your child, even in jest, does in fact tend to get under their skin
a decade or two of even light verbal harassment is very much accentuated when it's an authority figure you are in every meaningful way subservient to
just saw a 'comments' tab on someones blog you know where the following and likes tabs would be if enabled and it was just showing all the replies theyve made on peoples posts. this is fascinating when did this feature come out
EMERGENCY - ITS AUTO ENABLED!
if you've made replies on posts there is now a tab on your blog showing every post youve replied to and your reply.
if this is not what you want, either go to your blog and click comments and disable it from there or just go to your individual blogs setting pages. just change it from blue to grey if you dont want everyone to see your replies AND the post you're replying to
PLEASE BE ADVISED that it is set to disabled for blogs that have not made any replies but it will turn ON if you reply with that blog in the future.! i just tested it with my main, which was greyed out but it turned on the moment i left a test reply
figured i'd get the word out bc i have not seen a single mention of this and i'm sure there are plenty of people who maybe comment on things they don't want on display for everyone to see on their blog lol. you can still look at your replies with it toggled off just no one else can, like locking the following and likes list
so for some reason this feature was actually announced on the tumblr engineering blog. interesting choice not to reblog it to the staff or tumblr blog, esp considering they asked for user input on how to implement it, but i suppose considering the response to the last update maybe the replies would be too overwhelming...
so couple of clarifications. comments are disabled as default for primary blogs that have their likes disabled. they are seemingly enabled for all other blogs that have replied to posts
posts you comment on may show on your followers 'for you' page if you leave your replies publically available. they may, in the future, show in on your followers dashboard if your follower goes to their dash settings and enables this. apparently, if your likes are enabled, your followers can already see those on the dash if they've gone into preferences and selected to do so, which I was unaware of, and that seems to be disabled at default, but it's possible i disabled it previously and forgot about it ig
