I used to be a bit squeamish about RPF but I'm pretty sure that @iamnotbrianmay's ficlets about Trans Roger Taylor cured me. I mean, my face is somewhere on this blog so you can begin to understand why that hits home, as if the name wasn't a tip-off. I am, after all, a short wiry bottle blonde whose preferred presentation is "fancy masc" on a good day (and "disheveled gremlin" otherwise).

In my head there's one change, though. Because before my Catholic extended family had their say, I was almost named Rosalind.

Remember, if he brings John Deacon, to have something simple and traditional in reserve - try pie and mash.

Remember that, if he brings Roger Taylor with him, lamb is no longer just "iffy" - it's a recipe (geddit?) for disaster.

Avoid all jovial mid-meal ripostes like "if you don't eat meat you won't get no pudding" or "I'll wash, you dry."

Random person: Hi— Me: Freddie Mercury and Brian May grew up 300 yards apart and didn't meet each other until they were in college where they formed a band and believed in one another more than they believed in themselves they would take the bus together to defend the band to their rotten management and had matching stage costumes made out of an old wedding dress which all then later added up to their motif of black and white they also shared rooms on tour!!! and then many years later Freddie came out as gay and Brian changed his songwriting to be much more ambiguous and inclusive for his sake!!!! Brian always hated Don't Stop Me Now btw because he was worried about people taking advantage of Freddie's loyal nature and pushing him to extremes he also wrote a hit song (!!!) about Freddie's unsatisfying love and sex life which Freddie knew about and sang on stage for years while Brian played the piano for them and this isn't even touching on the fact that Freddie used his interactions with Brian on stage to express his gayness when that was still beyond dangerous and not only did Brian not bat an eyelash he continuously engaged in it for years because fuck homophobes !!! and Freddie always felt so comfortable around him inviting him to hang out with his friends his home and writing a 4-minute song calling him his soullllllll and then there's Brian turning around and writing a metaphor about Freddie's soul being beautiful and transformative like the wings of butterflies while he was dying and barely able to sing anymore but this isn't even touching on the years after Freddie's passing when Brian took Love of My Life and single-handedly made it into a tribute while he was depressed and struggling with suicidal thoughts because he couldn't play music without honoring Freddie in some—

Hello, I know it’s been a long while but I just wanted to share this with you guys.

I was re-reading call me when it’s over and I got to this line:

Which I wrote before I ever stepped a foot near London. Now I’m living in the UK and my partner and his partners took me to central London and I found the beach I imagined this scene happening.

Even if I had never set a foot in London I managed to dream up of a part of London that has become very special to me.

So if anyone is wondering, this beach is in the South Bank, between Tate modern and the National Theater and it looks kind of like this:

i'm no medical expert but my one and only health tip i can offer with any confidence is to allow yourself to listen to bohemian rhapsody every once in a while in a setting where you can put your your whole entire life up to this moment into singing along with the part where freddie mercury says "i don't wanna die, but sometimes i wish i'd never been born at all" and feel a layer of dead scar tissue peel away from your existence before it can calcify

My son once came back from a record shop visit with his uncle and with wide eyes and excited smile presented me with a cassette tape. “Look what I found!” As though he’d unearthed ancient pottery at a dig sight.

I love it. I love when my kids discover something that I take for granted. I hear songs with new ears because they are in a state of wonder. My son played me “Paint it Black” the other day, I’m like yeah Rolling Stones so what? And then I see his face and that LOOK like he just discovered sunsets and he’s like yeah but listen to this part, listen to the guitar right here - and I hear a song anew. Like watching a puppy see a bird for the first time, and oh oh right yeah birds are fucking amazing, forgot about that.

I think this is largely why “react” channels on YouTube have become so popular. Watching someone experience something you love for the first time is exciting. Rediscovering that thing through their eyes is also exciting.
