maybe i’m just dumb but like what’s up with the “tattoo” that jacob gets in new moon. i’ve never seen any explanation of it anywhere and i’m just?? what??
another twilight thought: it’s kinda ooc for j*sper to be able to control emotions. like hes shown as more of a tactician that relies on logic way more than emotions. to the best of my knowledge, the only explanation we get about his superpower is a lazy one line saying that he was charasmatic as a human. i imagine he is somewhat empathetic, but he doesn’t seem anymore empathetic than any other person in twilight. i feel like his ability would be much better suited to someone like esme or carlisle.
okay now i can’t get it out of my head. theres so much potential for a storyline where carlisle has jasper’s ability.
he grows up knowing that he’ll lead a congregation of people like his father, and he learned early on about the importance of empathy in terms of leading people.
after he’s turned, he keeps himself away from humanity for the same reasons. he still finds his solution of animals as a food source.
overall his life before turning edward stays pretty much the same, except his ability strengthens his story. for example, as he tests himself near humanity, he starts to feel their emotions. although overwhelming at first, this ability lends itself to a stronger connection with humanity (that others of his future coven may not feel as strongly about. canon carlisle has the greatest connection to humanity, actively working to help his community)
maybe one day he stumbles upon a hospital and feels the greatest amount of suffering, hope and pain all in one place. he now knows that his unending life’s work is to be focused here, where he can do the most good.
when he finds edward in the hospital, it’s his mother’s internal despair that convinced carlisle to change edward. and when edward wakes up and starts hearing voices, he finds himself better able to guide edward in the right direction bc of his own ability.
esme’s story, i think, would stay pretty much the same, but rosalie’s could be much different. instead of changing rosalie to be edwards mate (ew.) carlisle feels her pain and heartache and can’t help but do the only thing he knows to do, change her. when she wakes up and is understandably heartbroken and bitter, he understands the gravity of what he’s done. when she goes off to kill royce and his friends, he knows he can’t/won’t object bc it’s the only way she’ll feel like she can move on. after this carlisle decides to be whatever she needs, even if that means being rosalie’s punching bag as she works through her newborn vampire issues as well as her trauma. he sees the good in rosalie and can only hope she’ll eventually be able to find love and warmth in her new family.
through the years, carlisle never uses his ability to manipulate his family, but it is good for understanding conflict. all the years of edward and rosalie’s arguing is often smoothed over by carlisle, who understands both of them.
his ability and overall compassion make him a great leader of his coven, not because he manipulates them but because he understands and respects all of his “children.” most vampires find it strange that such a big coven can live under one roof, but between carlisle’s ability and esme’s big heart, they make it work
fuck twilight. am i right, my fellow twilight bloggers
What a sick, masochistic fandom
another twilight thought: it’s kinda ooc for j*sper to be able to control emotions. like hes shown as more of a tactician that relies on logic way more than emotions. to the best of my knowledge, the only explanation we get about his superpower is a lazy one line saying that he was charasmatic as a human. i imagine he is somewhat empathetic, but he doesn’t seem anymore empathetic than any other person in twilight. i feel like his ability would be much better suited to someone like esme or carlisle.
Carlisle is a fucking nerd. He’s portrayed as this uber mature head of the household who’s the Kindest Man Alive. Like that’s his vampire super power, but i think his character would have more flavor if he was just that obsessed with learning and science that he defied his vampire nature to become a doctor, and in turn using his knowledge to help people. like this bitch would read medical journals for fun. also you can’t tell me that most of his and Esme’s relationship is her lovingly listening to his newest hyper fixation about the anatomy of pelicans or smth
“My babysitters handled the suspense better than I did. As I fidgeted and paced, they simply grew more still, two statues whose eyes followed me imperceptibly as I moved. I occupied myself with memorizing the room; the striped pattern of the couches, tan, peach, cream, dull gold, and tan again. Sometimes I stared at the abstract prints, randomly finding pictures in the shapes, like I’d found pictures in the clouds as a child. I traced a blue hand, a woman combing her hair, a cat stretching. But when the pale red circle became a staring eye, I looked away.”
The Twilight Saga as told by moodboards
Book 1, Twilight. Chapter 20, Impatience.
I may be completely wrong about this but it’s just my interpretation of the books™️ and Edward:
I grew up being team Eddie and absolutely IDOLIZING the relationship him and Bella had. My best friend and I have talked about how we belive twilight gave us unhealthy relationship standards because of reading and being obsessed with these stories at such a young age.
Edward has so many qualities of a “silent abuser” and it’s been really getting to me. The type of abuse where you receive love and care but the person still always seems to be an arms length away, they could turn on you at any moment, threaten to leave you, threatening to kill themselves!?! I know this is a conversation that has happened before but truly I have family members who act this way and I’ve always said “but they do love me.” But don’t get it twisted- guilting someone, lying to them, holding things over them, threatening self harm, are all manipulative behaviors.
Something that really pisses me off is that by the end of all four books there is literally not a single man in Bella’s life (including Charlie sorry) that has truly treated her with the respect that she deserves.
This actually really scares me from a Stephanie Meyer POV. Disclaimer, shes most def a racist and a mormon and my sympathy level for her is quite low BUT.
Oftentimes, I'll write an interaction between characters, and when I read it back a few days later I'm like "oh,, that's kind of indicative of some shit I'm working through right now."
From an adult perspective, Twilight reads like a middle aged woman's therapy journal. A middle aged woman who is desperately lacking supportive people in her life, ESPECIALLY supportive men, has internalized the mysoginy and abuse she receives at the hands of the men, and really struggles with juggling every excuse that she makes up for them to keep them in her life.
One of the things that made me realize this is actually the scene in Port Angeles, arguably the only raw, real scene in twilight. The Port Angeles attack scene reads like a retelling. I really find that scene chilling because I've experienced almost the exact same thing.
The worst part about it is that at the end, Edward saves her. That's her fantasy. That at the end of a terrifying ordeal, the most important man in her life will save her. But she doesnt even write him as compassionate in that moment, because I dont think shes familiar with that sort of response in men (edward is almost never purely compassionate the entire series through.) She writes him as defensive, angry, backed into a corner by his NEED to protect her.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but Steph seems like someone who has literally never met a man who is kind. From Edward, to Jacob's betrayal, to the neglectfulness of Charlie, Jasper's lack of control, or Mike's predatory friendliness. Bella's life is almost completely void of SAFE men.
And to find out that a lot of the characters are named after ppl in her life??? Whew...
The Cullens when u ask them boobs or ass?
Carlisle: after a moment of careful deliberation “Boobs. I can see my wife’s face and boobs at the same time. Two blessings in one.”
Esme: pulling out a strap “Do I really have to say it?”
Edward: “That is between me and my wife, and I’d appreciate it if you respected our privacy on the matter.”
Bella: “Ass. I bet Edward avoided the question, so I’ll tell you–he’s ass too.”
Emmett: “How can you pit two queens against each other like that??”
Rosalie: with a wistful gaze “Titties.”
Alice: “Boobs. Assless chaps have been outlawed in our house for a reason outside of their failings as a fashion statement.”
Jasper: winking “A true gentleman keeps Such Secrets to himself.”
BONUS! Charlie: looking at his shotgun “Get out of my home! …the correct answer is neither, though. It’s thighs.”
Tell us about some Carlisle and Esme relationship head-cannons that you have?
I still like the idea that there are transformation bite scars even though SM says they heal, so in that context, when they first got together Carlisle kept buying Esme clothes with high collars and big necklaces (and scarves!) to cover hers, but eventually Esme told him she wasn’t ashamed of the marks and didn’t want to hide them like he did, that she didn’t see them as bad thing. Their first big fight ended up being a really good thing for them because some part of Esme was waiting for Carlisle to be like Charles, but even in the middle of the fight he didn’t. He didn’t raise his hand or even his voice, and Esme now looks back on that first argument rather fondly as when the last little bit of doubt she had melted away. Esme didn’t realize at first they wouldn’t be able to have children, and Carlisle didn’t think to tell her (because to him it seemed obvious from a medical standpoint), so it led to a very sad situation where Esme started daydreaming out loud about their future kids and Carlisle had to explain what an impossibility that was. Esme was very quiet for a few minutes and Carlisle was terrified that this was the moment she’d finally hate him for what he did, but then she smiled and said “thank goodness we have Edward, then.” She gives a lot of side-eye to some of his … creepier possessions, like the demon paintings from New Moon and the Egyptian solid gold mummiform coffin Amun sent as a wedding present. “For someone who wants to redefine what it means to be a vampire, honey, these are really creepy. We literally have a coffin in the basement.””It’s an ancient Egyptian–” “IT’S A COFFIN, CARLISLE CULLEN. A COFFIN!” Carlisle taught Esme how to waltz (”properly,” he had learned it in the 1700s when it was just getting popular); she taught him how to foxtrot.
so I’m rereading bella’s transformation, and she mentions having had venom and morphine in her veins before (from when james bit her) and I was thinking it would be very interesting to consider if that venom had actually made a difference to her in the intervening years. like, sure the process was halted pretty quickly, but it’s not like a computer program that has to download and then it’ll install. the venom starts its work right away, and that work is not undone even if it is quickly halted. so maybe after twilight bella is slightly stronger, slightly better at hearing, smelling. it’s slight and she attributes it to “bouncing back” well from her injuries. it’s why, in breaking dawn, when pregnant bella has to drink blood, that it smells and tastes good to her, despite the fact that a couple of books ago blood made her faint. it’s the reason she and edward were able to have a baby at all, despite the supposed chromosomal discrepancy between humans and vampires. you could consider her a carrier, perhaps. it gave her this edge, these hints of vampire traits while still stuck with frail human body systems.
the consistency……. smeyer wishes!
Honestly this could explain why she physically sees projections of Edward whenever she’d do something reckless in New Moon. Then after her transformation, this skill is heightened and her power is to project force fields and memories or thoughts.
Honestly I’m not a bio expert, but there must have to be some level of genetic compatibility of vampire venom with human blood in order for transformation to happen at all, so there is already some previous compatibility that exists.
Which means that theoretically, any human female should be able to have children with a male vampire (what with their wack body chemistry allowing them to be able to produce semen after being dead), but she should not be able to survive the ordeal or be able to carry the child to term. One of the reasons why Bella was able to do the above was presumably because of the lingering venom in her system.
I’m not sure if I remember correctly, but it has been mentioned that the bite on her skin shimmers in the sun - that was the primary site of injection of the venom, so it would make sense. Also (again, not sure if I remember correctly), but didn’t the wolves say she smelled a little funny? That could also be because of the lingering venom in her system.
This also explains her growing pallor and the many jokes about her being half a vampire, because in a sense, wasn’t she genetically partially one?
Y'all are so clever and talented
And it could possibly be why in later books (Eclipse) she doesn’t get woozy from her own blood?? Like when she cut her finger to spread it on the tree before the battle? (I could be misremembering)
YOU ARE RIGHT AND YOU SHOULD SAY IT
ok but this could also explain why Bella didn’t go through all the crazy mood swings and newborn behaviour when she first turned because her body had already been exposed to vampire venom witch might have heightened her repsosne to an influx, and then what with her having had Renesme that must have had an effect on her biology, because all that exposure to vampire dna might have helped her build up a tolerance
OH ok i really like that. so maybe the transition only appears to take a few days, but that’s only the violent, accelerated process of mainly physical changes, and further changes in the brain take longer, which is why newborns are so crazy. like bella wakes and describes having a “lot of extra space” in her mind and being able to have multiple trains of thought at once, thirst always being one of them. but the cullens warn her, while she’s still human, that the only thing she’ll be able to think about - for years even - is blood? and i think it’s because traces of james’ venom, though they weren’t enough to change her, still lingered and forced the minute changes in brain chemistry that normally happen after one becomes a vampire. so she had already expressed her newborn chaoticness and singlemindedness in new moon while she was human and learned to handle it.
Just to add, James’ bite not only shimmered but was always a few degrees colder than other parts of Bella’s skin and this really makes me believe the closest parts to the bite were transformed a bit.
that makes me think, maybe bella punching jacob would have gone different if she’d hit him with the hand james bit? her hand is vampire, you could maybe say
I love this post
do you think the cullens ever got round to getting netflix? like I get that they’re vampires and shit but like I do not believe for a second that all they do is sit around and read/play chess
Bella is the one to set it up (cause let’s be real apart from Emmett none of them can use an iPhone) and within a day everyone is hooked and barely leaves the house
Bella loves all the comedies and sitcoms like b99 and the office but eddie the emo only wants to watch the indie films and super depressing documentaries and gets annoyed cause Bella keeps messing up the algorithm
Alice is obsessed with Queer Eye and you cannot tell me otherwise. she also loves all of the late 90s/early 2000s movies like legally blonde and the breakfast club and 100% has killer outfits inspired by them
Rose loves all the true crime documentaries, especially the inside the mind ones and she has deffos binged breaking bad and how to get away with murder. she also adores sci-fi like star trek
Emmett’s Netflix is just chaos. his list goes from ozark to glee. he has watched Tiger King and has set up an entire criminal case with Rose just to prove that carol baskin killed her husband which they’re totally taking to court once rose renews her law degree
Jasper watches the ken burns civil war documentary and that’s it.
Esme and Carlisle share an account and normally watch history documentaries/dramas like the crown and I know it’s not on netflix but I can really see them binging game of thrones together
the worst fall out they’ve ever had was after Carlisle watched an episode without Esme and then accidentally spoiled it for her. they didn’t speak for 3 days.
Esme really loves Marie Kondo and Bob Ross. eventually Alice gets her to watch Queer Eye with her and she loves it (Bobby and Karamo are her favourites)
Carlisle 100% binges Grey’s Anatomy and makes Esme swear not to tell anyone. he’s also an absolute sucker for rom-coms and sobbed when he watched the notebook for the first time
occasionally the entire family get together and watch any vampire related show/movie and end up in absolute hysterics
Let 👏🏻 Rosalie👏🏻work 👏🏻in👏🏻a 👏🏻preschool👏🏻
im a shit editor but i fixed the bella and edward montage at the end of breaking dawn because a thousand years made me wanna kill myself.
New Moon AU where Edward leaves, but rather than curling up in a shack in Rio or whatever, he goes to the UK and finds a job at a used bookstore. It’s just as monotonous as high school, except it’s something he’s never done before, and the books remind him of Bella. He doesn’t allow himself many Bella-related luxuries because he knows if he thinks about her too much, he’ll go back to Forks, but every once in a while, he buys a book that she might like to have in his apartment. At first, the Bella Books are relegated to a shelf. Slowly, a shelf becomes an entire bookcase, then an entire wall, because he cant help himself, he buys a new book every shift. Six months after he arrived, his apartment is full of books for bella, and he realizes he has to go back to her.
