Growing, Learning, Evolving
My trauma does not define me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't leave me with challenges. A lifetime of emotional neglect, trauma, and abandonment has left me to be one highly functional fucked-up adult. Pardon my language.
The brain is complexed. Every brain is different, no two brains are the same as everyone is a combination of DNA plus their own developments based on whatever life dealt them. I struggle with quick, logical thinking when under pressure. If I have time and a positive atmosphere, I am more likely to be able to think logically. But being put on the spot with harsh reactions triggers my fight or flight mode. I always go into flight mode.
I find myself repeating the same mistakes, not being able to think logically and quickly. My anxiety goes full force and it's like my brain is blank and all I can focus on is breathing and not messing up but then I instantly mess up because of course I am not thinking of the right things.
It's not that I don't care, I do. I just simply do not know how to train my brain to not do that. It's not as simple as it may seem for me. I wish I could just flip a switch, keep my good mindset and not make these common, simple errors. But I struggle with that. And I don't know why.
I can do a good job in a low-pressure atmosphere. The office is my sanctuary, I work alone, and at my own pace and if I keep a good mindset then I thrive. I don't have an outlet to let my feelings out other than me and my trusty journal. Simply, because no one understands me, but how can they if I don't understand fully myself. You would think there would be empathy but there's not, often I am more of a burden in the workplace especially when I am doing physical labour.
I can have a good day if the person I am working with is in a great mood, but I often mess up and cause that to switch quickly. It's not my intention, I just get stressed and in flight mode. This sounds like a bunch of excuses but I do try. I'm my worst critic compared to others, I see my mistakes. I simply do not understand why I can't get common things like other people. I need directly explained directions or someone to show me how to do it AND BE PATIENT. If I don't have that, I can't wrap my brain around it. It's just not my learning style.
Everyone has different learning styles, different brains and different traumas. And I simply wish everyone could understand that.
I don't like the victim mentality, my past does not define me, I am more than capable of things. I can do things. That doesn't go without saying that I find myself with the victim mentality and I have to force myself out of it. It's not easy. But my problems are not everyone else's. My past doesn't define me, I am more than capable of many things and I can and I will.
No one prepares you for adulthood, everyone is growing and learning and I mean EVERYONE. There's not one life guru, everyone is changing, learning, and evolving at all times. Even the oldest wisest person. Sure, people are more experienced than others, but what works for them might not work for you.
Everyone has their own version of trauma and it's up to every one to break generational trauma and be the best person they can be.
Life is about learning and growing and evolving. Finding your own way and doing whatever you can to give yourself the best life.
For me, I need to focus on how to clear my head and think logically in fast-paced situations. I know I can do it, I just have to stay calm and not focus on the wrong things at the wrong times. I am not doing it for anyone else but myself, I deserve to succeed and feel happy and if I can manage to do that, it will also benefit others around me.
At the end of the day, I got this.
march 15, 2022
I tested positive for Covid yesterday morning. I am now in isolation and it's really not fun. I feel like I have the worst flu ever and I am unable to do my normal daily stuff. I am completely isolated away from my family who all have no symptoms and tested negative. I literally barely left my house so it sucks that I even got the virus. I am praying for healing and strength to recover as quickly as possible. I don't wish feeling like this on anyone. I am a homebody who loves to spend time with her family. I strongly dislike being away from them and it's only day 2. I will keep you all posted on my covid journey I guess.
So far my symptoms have been:
- a consistent headache and earache that only goes away when I take medicine.
- a sore throat and cough
- Jaw Pain
- Muscle aches
-stomach aches
-exhaustion
Praying that I recover fast. Thankful for my family taking care of me even if they can't be around me. The love over the phone and food/necessities dropped outside the door is the biggest blessing.
Sunday
I woke up feeling not well today. Physically, my throat was scratchy, I had a cough and a mega headache.
I stayed home, it was my day off and I didn't know what to do with myself. I was exhausted but my throat was so irritating. I made honey lemon ginger tea and took a hot shower to open up my throat/ sinuses.
A rapid test was negative, so I just relaxed on my sofa with my heated blanket.
A lot of sleeping, hydrating with water and an Advil later, my throat was irritated from my cough and my head was slightly hurting and I am exhausted.
I prayed to God and asked for some healing and strength to feel better in the morning.
Going to go rest and sleep and hopefully I will feel well tomorrow x
Healthy Habits are so Important
I wake up early. 6:20 am, I force myself to leave my bed as soon as I hear that alarm. I use the washroom and brush my teeth and then I grab a glass of water and chug it down after a long sleep and dehydration. I then make a coffee. I look around the house and tidy any necessary things I see. I then go into my room and I turn my mindset mentor podcast on by Rob Dial. I listen to his words as I drink my coffee and grab my journal and I write three things I am grateful for. Gratitude is so important. I set goals and journal about anything I am feeling. I mark how I feel on my chart and then I put my journal away. The coffee is finished and the podcast is over. It's time for yoga, I roll my mat out and start in a standing position, I take a deep breath and raise my arms over my head stretching, I then follow a flow allowing myself to stretch my entire body. The vinyasa is over and now I am in child's pose, I am resting, I am focused on my breathing. How do I feel now? I feel relaxed, all the kinks from the long nights' sleep are gone. I roll up my mat and then I begin to make my bed. If my sheets are messy, I take everything off my bed and make sure my sheets are on tight. I then fluff my pillows and place my blankets neatly back on the bed. I sit on my bed and I turn my music on. Praise music and I ask God to help me overcome anything I need that day. God, please open and close any doors for me God. God guide me and protect me and give me all the strength I need, answer my true desires and God I love you, I am grateful for you my God as you always lead my way. It's time to start my day soon. I need to get ready, I grab my work clothes for the day and get dressed, I fix my hair and apply moisturizer and lip balm. It's time to walk around the block, move my legs and get some sun before I start my day in the office. I grab my air pods and hit shuffle on my music, I walk around a couple of blocks and now it's time for work. I start my day and I feel good.
This is a good morning for me. This is a productive morning for me. This is when I am at my best self, this is how I maintain my best self. If I slip and I don't follow through, I am not the best version of myself. I allow negative habits to pour in, I turn my alarm off and set another one and sleep more. I get up, use the washroom, brush my teeth, throw some clothes on, leave my bed messy. Make a coffee and off to work I go. I am rushed, I am anxious and I set myself up for failure.
Healthy habits are important and crucial for a successful day. If you can't complete one task thoroughly how do you expect yourself to complete any other tasks thoroughly? You can't. Focus on your self-care, make sure you're taken care of and then start your day and achieve everything you need to achieve. It feels great.
It's time to heal your inner child
I'm more aware of things every day. Sometimes I feel like I am taking life for granted, I know that I focus on the wrong things, and instead of loving life, I am suffering. But it's self-caused. Humans experience tragedy. I don't think I know one person who has not experienced some sort of tragedy or trauma in their life. Becoming self-aware and recognizing my patterns have been so eye-opening. The way I respond to things, how I feel during a day when the world feels so heavy my mind can only go to one place and that's survival. Survival mode for me is robotic. I am barely making it through the day, I am focused on just pushing through and doing my bare minimum because that's all I feel I can do. And it's exhausting. I am a completely exhausted, emotional wreckage, but this is because my brain is only focused on one thing. And it's not positive. I allow my obsessive thoughts and anxiety to take over. I spiral when I don't have control. I hate change and when my comfort gets disrupted I am a wreck. When I am triggered it's a miserable way to live life. It doesn't just affect me either. I am not my normal bubbly self. I am anxious and emotional and on guard. How can you form/ or maintain a healthy relationship like that? You can't. I need to redirect my brain and leave survival mode so that I don't reach burnout. Work on me and get to recovery mode, and then get to performance mode. I want to feel calm and optimistic, carefree and relieved. I don't want to be impatient, anxious, frustrated, exhausted, hopeless and defeated. Feeling that way weighs you down in such a way you wouldn't understand unless you experienced this yourself. It's important to recognize and find out where this stems from. For me, it's my inner child. I didn't get a chance to heal her, she's screaming, trying to find her voice, a voice I didn't have. I have different circumstances now, I am safe, I am in a good spot in life but she's raging. She's spiralling out of control and I need to tame her, I need to hold her and tell her she's okay. I can't change the past, no one can. I don't want to be living in the past anymore. The past is dark and not wanted. I want to focus on the present and the future and how much I am going to achieve in life. Prove everyone who doubted me wrong. I want to prove my inner child wrong. I deserve more, I deserve greatness and it's time I proved that to myself.
It’s crazy how much can change within a year. A year ago, my world was crumbling at my feet. I was in one of the lowest moments of my life. A year ago, I was stuck in a loop of bad choices and bad feelings that were dragging me down.
A year ago I was unhappy.
Today.
Today I am loved, today my world is as strong as ever. Today I am in one of my highest moments of life. Today, I make healthy choices and allow my positive emotions to guide me to make positive choices. Today I am happy.
