F*ck. Yes!!!
Real Talk: Francesca's Storyline
I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but I need to get this off my chest. I've seen a lot of posts complaining about the general fandom reaction to the change in Francesca's story. Accusations of racism and homophobia abound, and are extremely valid. But such a surface level examination of the situation reeks of privilege and naivety. There's a lot more going on.
I don't like the change because it doesn't fit Francesca's storyline. Even if we get beyond the infertility plot (which we can), there are other important aspects like Michael being a notorious rake. He's a legendary lover, and that very much plays into the story. It actually sets up one of the central conflicts. I guess you could have Michaela be as experienced and seductive, but that would mean two very different things for men and women during that time. (Or anytime really, the double standard is real). Francesca was already hesitant to be with a man of ill-repute. A WOMAN with the same reputation? Never. Not even in the suspended disbelief world of Bridgerton. Nothing about Francesca's story would be better with a wlw romance. (Guess who's would? 👀)
Moreover, the show runner was EXTREMELY negligent in making this choice. She only did it because she saw HERSELF in Francesca's story and is using her position and Netflix's budget to bring her whack ass self-insert fantasies to life. Regardless of it best serves the story or not. This book is also one of the most popular in the series. And one of the steamiest. (These two things are no coincidence.) So you have a predominantly straight white female audience who is HISTORICALLY resistant to wlw romances, turn their fave story into something they hate, then you cast a BLACK actress to take the fall as the gender-swapped love interest that no one asked for? No. Fuck that.
Eloise being queer might be cliche, but her story fits way better for the retcon, and the audience was already anticipating it. Imagine if they did an amazing sapphic season that served to pull more mainstream viewers to support wlw media. A queer Bridgerton storyline could have the power to change the cultural landscape in a way not seen since GLEE. Instead, we're about to undo over a decade of progress because some broad with a power trip failed to listen to valid criticism. We know who the core audience really is and how problematic they are. But dismissing the outcry purely as "racism and homophobia" does disservice to a lot of the more complex dynamics at play. I hope they do it right, but it will never BE right in my mind because the motivation behind the "artistic choice" was selfishness.
Me to My Captain every time I enter the Wicked Shipping Wars:
Agatha and Rio don't really do anything explicitly gay.
But somehow everything they do is the gayest shit I've ever seen.
Literally Agatha's ENTIRE coven:
I’m glad so many people picked up on the vibes between Eloise and Cressida. Not a ship I ever considered before, but the tension was palpable. I’ve been a Queer Eloise truther since reading the books. Her portrayal on the show only made it more obvious in my mind. I didn’t think the writers would ever go there, but the set up is just so explicit, now I’m not sure. I don’t think they’d actually make Eloise / Cressida canon, but I do think they’re testing the waters for wlw Eloise. And it makes perfect sense.
First off, the character is queer (I’ll hold off from labeling her a lesbian outright, because there’s definitely room for other identities like bi, demi, ace…. etc.) Even in the books. I legitimately think Julia Quinn accidentally wrote a sapphic character and then didn’t know what to do with her. So what we got is “To Sir Phillip, With Love”, widely considered to be one of the worst in the series. Believe me, if there’s any story that could stand to deviate from the books, it’s this one. And the story could so easily be adapted to a wlw romance, it would be a wasted opportunity not to do it. Like… the story would be better if they tweaked it to fit a queer canon. AND it could be done in a historically accurate way to shut up the naysayers that “a lesbian storyline wouldn’t fit in this universe.” How? Allow me to explain.
I even have fancasting for the role of Eloise's love interest. The actress would need to be butch enough that they could believably pull off the deception, but androgynous enough that the hets can still swoon. May I submit: Katy O'Brian and Emma Corrin.
Katy if we're going for talk, dark and handsome; Emma for that pretty boy, young Leo DiCaprio vibe. Both are queer and out, have already played gay characters, rock that aforementioned androgynous look on the daily, and are hot enough to make even the straightest watchers weak in the knees. I mean just look at the material!!!
@netflix Please, I beg of you. Do this. I relinquish my intellectual rights to the idea if you make it happen. In fact, I will use my Screen Writing degree from an Ivy League college to write the whole thing for you FOR FREE!!! Whatever you need. Just give us what the audience, and Eloise deserves.

Welp. Guess I'm bout to be back on my bullshit... ❤🤡
As someone who has survived the likes of Swan Queen, Faberry, Rizzles and Bechloe...
I have just one thing to say to those Supercorp shippers still holding out hope:
Wynonna when Rachel came to stay at the Homestead: Well, at least Waverly and Nicole will have to be more appropriate, and stop having sex all over the house now that we have a minor here.
Wayhaught:
Somewhere between season 3 and 4, the Wynonna Earp team was just like,
"Look, everybody here is gay. The cast is gay. The crew is gay. The fandom is gay. Everybody's gay! So we're just going stop pretending straight people are at all involved in this, and make everything gay. Like... really gay. The kind of gay that you only understand if you're actually gay. GAY!!!!! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈"
And I love them for it.
THAT Wayhaught scene Moodboard
Watching that cliff-hanger like....
Casting Director: We need a badass, weapons-trained, female action star to play a kickass, virtuous, patriarchy-destroying heroine with a tragic back story who is obviously wlw.
Charlize Theron:
Eve: *Turns around*
Villanelle: *Turns around*
Me:
I think Alex has a drinking problem.
