Mechanical engineering is very enjoyable. I’m having so much fun. On another note python is the bane of my existence, software engineers have respect🫡
Men will literally study Paracelsus, translate 1600s alchemical texts and distill potions for melancholy before going to therapy
Ok but legit the actual video is so good and goes pretty in depth of how they actually did it. It was a "potion for melancholy" and he explains some history behind it, including how much knowledge they really did have about certain plants and herbs and the benefits behind them. It goes into the process of This Particular way of extracting those plants properties(oils and stuff I think through distillation??). Pleeaaaaase go watch it if it sounds even slightly interesting to you. And he also does really try it.
Honestly just go listen to some of his videos. He's great.
This is my legit favorite YouTuber. His entire channel is scholarly discussions on ancient and medieval religions, magic, the occult, and philosophy. he literally has a PhD in this stuff and provides a ton of information on how to find resources for further reading on topics
It's my 9 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
Ok actually genuine tip for new tumblr users: if you see a post you like and want to reblog but theres a bad/annoying added on bit in the reblog chain feel free to just reblog that post straight from op or the last person who knew how to mind their business
Or just mock the edition. That usually works

Transphobes who say their pronouns are beep/boop or something else in their bio underestimate my willingness to adhere to those pronouns
I love the normalization of neopronouns for this reason. Transphobes are just gonna get their "ironic" pronouns used and respected lmao. Neopronouns users were so based for doing this.
A classmate in undergrad once tried to test me by claiming she would only agree to respect nonbinary pronouns if I used Her Majesty as pronouns for her.
She lasted 2 days before she realized I had absolutely zero problem doing exactly that and was too embarrassed to ever argue with me about pronouns in class again.
When I was working at the greenhouse, one of my coworkers was getting flustered because he was a Proper Gentleman who called everyone "Sir" or "Ma'am" and was getting genuinely heated that there wasn't a gender-neutral honorific for nonbinary people like me.
"Well, you could always call me 'Your Majesty'." I said.
As a Joke.
Because in addition to looking and sounding like an older Yosemitie Sam, he took me Extremely Seriously and addressed me as "Your Majesty" for the rest of the summer. Which was hysterical because it was things like "Your Majesty? Where is the fungicide?" and *gestures at me* "You'll have to as Their Majesty about the tomatoes." He also would call every single person he could not immediately identify the gender of "Your Majesty" and also everyone that had neon hair.
So yes, you should absolutely rigorously adhere to someone's pronouns (Especially if they're unusual pronouns), because it's respectful, because it's clowning on assholes, and because it is fucking delightful.
If I had a nickel for every big name Harry Potter fanfic writer who started their own cult, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Oh man, are we talking about Snape wives?? I because every time I remember them I just have to stare off into the distance for a while.
I’d have three nickels.
What is a Snape Wife? Someone fill me in on all these Harry Potter cults 😂
Snape wives (or as they called themselves, Snapeists) were an online cult made mostly of middle-aged women who believed the following
Severus Snape is an omniscient, unkillable entity residing on the astral plane.
Snape is the one true god.
Snape possessed JKR to write the Harry Potter books, but she got several things wrong; most importantly Snape dying.
The spirit of Snape abandoned JKR because she wasn't good enough for him and created the Snapists instead.
Snape chose several Snapists that have a special connection with him to lead his religion.
Snapists can serve Snape by marrying him and becoming sister-wives (there was lots of debate on if they could have boyfriends/husbands other than Snape in the real world).
Snape contacts his followers who are worthy, both in dreams and by possessing real life people.
To be worthy of Snape, you need to be... basically a tradwife. Obey Snape in all things, never question him, don't be independent, be pretty, be thin, only have feminine hobbies, etc.
The snapewives wrote a crazy amount of fanfiction about Snape, both erotic and otherwise. Plus they had their own prayers, ceremonies, shrines... shit was wild. The whole religion fell apart when one of the leaders criticized Snape and was subsequently bullied out of the community and another decided that the one true god was actually Jethro Gibbs from NCIS.
when the second half of that last sentence hits you like a brick in the face
Wait so who were the first two Harry Potter fanfiction writers who formed cults?
Bro WHAT? 😭
Do you have a fetish for men or something
Does anyone have that anon accusing someone of fetishising trans men because he, a trans man, kept drawing them?
It was infact the same man
Clickbaitcowboy has been through too much 😔
Black Twitter Drags New Black Celebs
One of the first and most influential users of the tag, #BlackCelebsBeLike, was Zellie Imani, an activist and blogger behind the website black-culture. “The goal really was to challenge the pedestal we sometimes put celebrities on and not to allow media to use them as spokespersons for [all] black people,” he tells BBC Trending via email.
Imani mentioned the remarks by Common and Terrence Howard. “I was surprised that the hashtag took off so fast but i wasn’t surprised at how many people felt about the issue,” he says. “Celebrities experience racism and discrimination even when they are in denial of its existence. Denying racism doesn’t make it exist any less.”
Always Reblog
Put this in the fucking MoMA
This was so good
We need to bring the hashtag back at least once a year…
My hypothesis is that in like 10 years gen z is gonna have a big cult boom the way the boomers did in the 70s
It’s already happening on tik tok. There’s a fun new thing going round that’s citing common symptoms of depression and anxiety as signs you’re about to have your awakening and that you are actually an alien and the reason you don’t feel right is because you’re home sick for your own galaxy. So that’s fun.
agreed, and i don't mean this in a "haha gen z is so dumb they're gonna join a tiktok cult lmao" i mean that conditions are perfect for the formation of cults right now.
high unemployment and a lot of underpaying, pointless jobs = people are looking for things to do with their life, a purpose
skyrocketing cost of living = most young people will not be able to live on their own, meaning some will end up in a group living situation with people interested in recruiting them
it's a time of great cultural and political upheaval, nothing feels real, people are desperate for meaning and human connection. cults promise that
there is a new wave of acceptance and understanding for ways of life outside the norm, which is great! ...except for when cult leaders tell you abusive and controlling practices are just their culture, their religion, their lifestyle, their beliefs, their tradition, and if you disrespect it you are the problem
social media influencers have already shown us how easy it is to build a cult of personality and attract people from anywhere in the world who are interested in the exact brand you are selling
spirtuality is having a boom, as are things like astrology, crystals, tarot, meditation, energy... those things aren't bad on their own but they are often used as tools of cult spaces
wellness. i think a lot of people are already in wellness cults. you can make people do a lot of things in the name of "wellness" and a big factor of maintaining a cult is keeping members in a state of decreased cognition..... like say, with regular fasting
i think people are just unaware in general of how cults function, especially because the satanic panic was a big stupid false alarm that convinced the youths that dungeons and dragons or doom were gateways to cults, which are scary evil child murdering, satan-worshipping gangs. people don't know how to spot them in real life.
I can’t believe this got to 20k notes. Is there something about this that resonates with people on some level?
anyway i said i would do this after the whole thing was said and done… when i was looking for advice i found like “paint your nails and listen to happy music” buzzfeed bullshit so

#THIS IS PURE GOLD
I have no idea what the story of this anime is, and it’s pretty obvious who the protag is, but I’m gonna add character to the girls to the left with no face
introducing these two background characters in this slice of life romantic comedy/drama - they love each other a lot, and the girl to the left is grumpy because her girlfriend to the right forgot to give her her good morning kiss.
taller girl on the right is oblivious because she was so excited when they got up because she’s treating her girlfriend to a surprise date at the amusement park that she forgot to give her a good morning kiss. they’ll have their first smooch of the day at the very top of the ferris wheel 💋
the guy to the right of the protag (with the glasses) is a simple office worker who loves his family very very much and cannot wait to get back home to his children
The guy on the far left is wanting to get home to make dinner. He lives alone, but he promised his kitten they would have some grilled fish as a treat! He loves her very much.
The tall one behind the two girls just got back from a job interview. He didn’t get the job but he’s confidant he’ll get the next one. He needs to provide for his son and two daughters after all.
Person to the left of the pink hair girl is a retired hit-man struggling to adjust to a normal life but hes recently found a woman that works at a cafe down the street from his new job and things seem to be going well.
the man on the far far right is anxious as it’s his and his boyfriend first date aniversary and that’s the longest he lasted in a relationship, he is confident that this one will last tho
This is so pure.
Everyone is the protagonist of their own story.
Everyone is the protagonist of their own story.
Can we have an anime series like this? where every episode starts on the same group of people in the train car and we follow a different protagonist from that group each episode?
like, here’s the premise: each episode opens on an image like the one OP posted, with one person drawn as a typical anime protagonist while everyone else around them is in that faceless minimalist background style. However, when the train stops, the camera follows one of the background characters out of the train. Over the course of the episode, we are shown a day in that character’s life, the people with whom they interact, the ups and downs they go through, etc, and as we learn more about them, their features gradually become more defined, until the episode ends with them fully drawn and all necessary details present.
Each episode focuses on a different background character, and the protagonist is never given the spotlight until the final episode, when it is revealed that they are just a cardboard cutout that one of the train’s occupants has been tasked with delivering
and there are subtle hints throughout the series that foreshadow this reveal; a figurine on a shelf in the foreground, a video on a screen in the background, a magazine cover, etc., but we don’t notice because our focus is on that episode’s character.
so it symbolically demonstrates how everyone is intimately familiar with this fictional character, hence their being drawn fully detailed from the beginning, but you have to take the time to get to know the actual people that you encounter on a daily basis, and that everyone truly is the protagonist of their own story.
