EVERYBODY SHUT UP NEW JEFF WARD BTS DROPPED
how could op just leave out the resolution like dat
Eugene Lazowski was a Polish doctor who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust by creating a fake epidemic that kept the Germans away from their town.
Eugene received his medical degree before the war started. After Germany invaded Poland in 1939, he became a military doctor with the Polish resistance. He was imprisoned in a German POW camp for his anti-Nazi activities. After his release in 1942, Eugene moved to a small town, Rozwadow, with his wife and young daughter. There he reunited with a friend from medical school, Stanislaw Matulewicz. Stanislaw made a medical discovery that seemed minor but proved monumental. He found that healthy people could be injected with a typhoid vaccine that would make them test positive for the deadly disease without actually contracting it. Eugene hatched a brilliant plan. He knew that Germans tended to be germaphobes and were terrified of typhus, a contagious bacterial disease. When a Polish town was found to be infected with typhus, the German occupiers would quarantine the entire area. Eugene also knew that by implementing his plan, he risked the death penalty, which applied to Poles who helped Jews. Undeterred by the risk, Eugene injected thousands of people with typhus and sent blood samples to the Germans to report the “epidemic.” He made sure to inject non-Jews as well as Jews, so the Nazis wouldn’t just come in and massacre all the Jews in town. Because it appeared to be a widespread epidemic, the Nazis stayed clear of Rozwadow. By late 1943, the Gestapo was suspicious. The entire town was supposedly infested with typhus, yet nobody was dying. Eugene learned a German medical team was being sent to the quarantined area. He frantically approached the oldest and sickest-looking people in town and asked them to wait in a squalid shack. When the visitors arrived, the villagers welcomed them with a party - featuring large quantities of vodka. After the celebration, the German doctors were taken to the “patients.” Eugene said, “I told them to be my guest and examine the patients, but to be careful because the Polish are dirty and full of lice, which transfer typhus.” The doctors quickly took blood samples without conducting full examinations of the patients. When the samples tested positive for typhus, the German health authorities were satisfied the epidemic was still raging. They never came back. After the war, Eugene didn’t tell anybody of his heroic acts, not even his wife. It wasn’t until a documentary was produced in 2000 about the fake epidemic that Eugene received the accolades he deserved. He passed away in 2006 at age 92. For risking his his life to save the Jews of Rozwadow, Poland, we honor Dr. Eugene Lazowski as this week’s Thursday Hero. Accidental Talmudist
great post, however i’d like to add that the name in the post is a translation, his real name was Eugeniusz Łazowski, his friend’s name was Stanisław Matulewicz, and the town was called Rozwadów, and is now part of another polish town by the name of Stalowa Wola
I’m Polish and I never hear of it!

Some context for the destruction of that Aboriginal site:
When indigenous ppl complain that their sacred sites are being destroyed and they say stuff like "we have a cultural connection to this place" "if we can't come here it's like ripping off our roots" "we need this place to communicate with our ancestor spirits" etc., white australians are conditioned to handwave statements like that away with shit like "oh well they're just saying that, it's just a random tree, they'll get over it, obviously ancestor spirits aren't real, sacredness of trees isn't real", and that is total bullshit.
Aboriginal sacred sites are integral parts of highly sophisticated mnemonic techniques that have been proven to preserve information for (i know this sounds hard to believe but) at least ten thousand years (they accurately describe coastlines that are now underwater, or dry areas that have since been rainforests for 7000 years, or extinct megafauna etc.)
Physical features (either in one place, or along a track known as a songline) work as subheadings in an encyclopaedia. Ritualised teachings tell people what rituals or song cycles (like subheadings in an encyclopaedia) to associate with specific visual cues, and then those songs all contain stories that have (for example) systematised knowledge of every local animal and plant, contained in songs for easy memorisation. White anthropologists mostly handwave these techniques away as "animist beliefs" and "ancestor worship" but in reality it's this extremely sophisticated system of knowledge that's something like a cultural encyclopaedia, and that's why it's such a big deal when this fucking anglo settler state and its profiteers destroy these locations like it means nothing bc "oh it's just a tree" or "what it's a rock they'll just go to another rock"
In case you all need it said: this is cultural genocide.
Have you ever heard of the memory technique of having a giant house inside your head where you "store" bits of knowledge associated with household items in specific locations & to remember it you can mentally walk yourself to where it is and supposedly never forget anything again? Their physical walks are exactly that, and as the above states, wondrously accurate. Destroying the path and features destroys vital cues for priceless ancestral knowledge preserved for millennia.
There's a really good book about this called The Edge of Memory and it's available online free as an EPUB!

Saw some Steven slander on the tl so buckle up again! Just wanna ramble about some stuff on my head 🤝 might be a long post, but maybe it won’t be, but welcome to my Ted talk, I guess!
There’s something absolutely endearing about Steven Grant. Actually, there are a lot of things endearing about Steven Grant.
It’s the way he’s absolutely passionate about Egyptian mythology, choosing to spend his sleepless nights reading about it, studying hieroglyphics and just anything available to expand his knowledge about the topic. He was concerned enough to tell Donna about the misinterpretation of the Ennead, choosing to still tell her about it even if he knew he’d probably get shot down the second he started talking.
It’s the way he cares so much about Gus, going as far as putting him in the first (and maybe the only?) clear container that he could find, his blender, and bringing him to the pet shop to just to ask if it was normal that he “grew another fin”. He loves the little guy so much, and he probably chose him specifically because he only had one fin and he genuinely wanted to help him.
Its the way he bought Crawley some food with extra pralines, even if the man just sits there and listens while Steven talks to him during his shift. Its the way he’s a vegan, abstaining from consuming meat products, but still respectful to those who don’t have the same ideals.
It’s the way that he doesn’t believe that he’s broken, even if he was losing days of his life for reasons he couldn’t quite understand. It’s the way he as strong enough to say that he needs help.
It’s the way he genuinely just wants to protect the people around him, even if it means getting himself locked up. Wanting to surrender the bag of illegal shit he found in the locker, how he spoke up against child murder when Arthur was explaining the whole situation with Ammit, how he was so set on protecting Layla despite just meeting her, and how he surrendered control to Marc so he doesn’t accidentally hurt anyone else around them.
It’s the way he knows that he’s capable and he’s always wanting and willing to show that he is capable.
It’s the way that he’s … Steven, you know?

This isn’t even everything but yeah I’m done rambling for now </3 I just love him so much n it’s soft hours for me 🤧 how could you NOT love him??
