I personally think people need to understand that if someone hasn’t wronged you or anyone else, you should NOT dislike them. You don’t have to like them; just remain neutral.

nope! this is the kind of attitude the leads to you picking apart every little thing a person does digging through their past for dirt and problematizing everything about them, exaggerating harm, assuming the worst about them, putting words in their mouth, etc, to justify the fact that you simply don’t vibe with them when the truth is that you will not get along with everybody you meet in life and it’s extremely possible to be civil to someone you don’t like. you don’t have to be friends with everybody its fine. it’s certainly nicer than falsely accusing them of some heinous shit rather than admit that you’re not some Disney princess who’s never had an unfairly mean thought in her life and loves everybody and sings with little birdies and is never bitchy or irritable. sometimes you get annoyed for stupid reasons and understanding that your personal feelings about a person aren’t necessarily related to their morals or worthiness as a human being is the first step to being a civil adult.

It feels taboo as a childfree person to admit this but I actually do have concerns about who is going to take care of me when I'm old. The elder care system in our nation relies A LOT on the unpaid care labor of adult children. I just don't think that's a good reason to have kids.

"But you'll have more money!" does not completely put this to rest for me. Neither does "Buy care insurance!" Even if I can afford direct personal care, who is going to advocate for me to get it? Who is going to navigate bureaucracy for me when I'm 80?

"If you do have kids, there's no GUARANTEE that they'll take care of you when your old!" That's true, but doesn't solve my problem.

I think childfree people get very defensive about this question because its used as a kind of "gotcha!" against us, but I actually do not feel we can afford to be in denial about this reality. Based on current trends of more people in their 30s stating they intend to be permanently childfree, we are going to see a huge wave of childfree adults hitting the eldercare system at once in a few decades. Childfree people in their 30s should be advocating around eldercare NOW.

To answer your question OP, the point of telling normal people to cycle to work and going vegetarian is to distract you. Ordinary people will never be able to undo the damage the one percent does no matter what.

Kim Kardashian and Drake aren't even the worst of it, at least you know they exist and you can be mad at them. There are pharmaceutical and tech billionaires who's names you have never heard who produce more carbon emissions in just a couple years than you will in your entire lifetime.

And that's to say nothing of the corporations themselves, which produce such an extraordinary amount of waste and pollution that Kim Kardashian and Drake become just a drop amidst a lake of nightmares.

But yes. You. Ordinary working class person. You need to change your lifestyle. You need to spend every second of every day working your ass off to try and decrease your carbon footprint that way you don't have enough time to think about how monumentally fucked our planet is.

He wasn’t just into copper trading. There are letters complaining about Ea-nasir’s business practices with respect to everything from kitchenwares to real estate speculation to second-hand clothing. The guy was everywhere.

The majority of the surviving correspondences regarding Ea-nasir were recovered from one particular room in a building that is believed to have been Ea-nasir’s own house.

Like, these are clay tablets. They’re bulky, fragile, and difficult to store. They typically weren’t kept long-term unless they contained financial records or other vital information (which is why we have huge reams of financial data about ancient Babylon in spite of how little we know about the actual culture: most of the surviving tablets are commercial inventories, bills of sale, etc.).
