Further insider info on UberEats, DoorDash, etc. and why drivers hating you isn't about ableism, from a disabled gig driver:
What I need people to understand about rideshare food delivery apps in the vast majority of the US is that the driver quite literally does not get paid unless you tip. You need to forget what you know about tipping culture and start learning about how it's legal to pay tipped workers NOTHING. If you want to keep using the app, you have to tip. If you don't want to tip, fight to get the drivers legal protections and a living wage. If you keep using the app without tipping, fuck you.
Unlike with rides, an app delivery driver is not paid per mile OR for time. It's a flat rate, usually between $1.50 and $3 regardless of how long the order takes, how long the restaurant takes to make it, etc.
Deliveries in many markets usually take most or all of an hour to complete due to the distance & sheer volume of traffic, so we're looking at functionally $2 per online hour (not booked hour, booked hours are BULLSHIT because we can't do ANYTHING else while waiting on orders) on a good day if nobody tips.
I will remind you a gallon of gas costs more than that, and the round trip from the restaurant to you is usually enough to consume most of a gallon or even over a gallon of fuel. This is because the app doesn't always select a location near you. Instead, it often chooses the restaurant closest to the driver, which...honestly, on a busy day, it could be like 15 to 20 miles away from you because THAT was the closest place they could find a driver to. It's not our fault your food's cold, either, in other words.
The reason your food is taking an hour to get to you when you don't tip is because the apps will try their hardest NOT to raise this rate unless they're forced to. Your food isn't even being prepared because drivers are seeing an offer to go 15 miles for $1.50 and going "haha, no, I'm not a fucking idiot" and taking the offers that are higher. Your order floats around in the system getting $0.20 tacked onto the base pay until someone FINALLY takes it.
I literally never stop moving when I'm running deliveries unless I am at the customer's front door, so when you open said door and bitch at me for how long your food took to get to you, I know instantly that you didn't tip & the algorhithm didn't even bother showing it to me until it was worth my time because I always hit no on orders that ask me to do unpaid labor.
When you try to justify not tipping w/ any reason, you just look like an asshole to the people actually doing all this work for you. "I need you to do unpaid labor because I'm poor" yeah babe so are we, and we're usually poorer than the ones saying this shit
While the international community speaks of the genocide and ethnic cleansing we are enduring, we are focusing on the details of this urgent crisis moment by moment.
My family and I are surrounded by winter's relentless bombardment. Shrapnel rains down on our heads and inside our tattered tent, leaving us without even the most basic protection. Flying in a torn tent offers no shelter from the bitter cold or the scorching summer heat. Every day we bid farewell to the martyrs of the revolution, witnessing children lose their lives before our very eyes, while we and our children suffer from a profound lack of basic necessities.
We need your help, not to dismantle our tent, but to provide us with the food and medicine we desperately need to survive. I implore you not to abandon us in these circumstances.
Please please continue to support my young friend Ahmed. His family has been displaced many times, they live in a tent in a refugee camp in Gaza, and are subject to terror from attacks that continue under the false “ceasefire.” Ahmed needs food and medicine urgently.
i think once u successfully win a debate there should be a period where they let you get out all the ad hominems you were holding back

This month people have been tearing Flock cameras off their poles.
This month people have been tearing Flock cameras off their poles. Perched above public streets, they are birdlike things, weatherproof, and they photograph every passing car and file it in a searchable national database. Somebody cut two of them in half at Washington Avenue and Westcott in Houston, spray-painted the wreckage, and left an American flag on one of them. Police were notified on the morning of the Fourth of July. Somebody severed a camera in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. The police department posted the photograph itself and collected more than twenty thousand comments. “Not all heroes wear capes.” “Give them a medal.” Here is what the cameras do when nobody cuts them down. Cops use them to hunt immigrants and to follow ICE targets across state lines and to find women who ended pregnancies in states where that is a crime and to watch exes and to watch women they want, without a warrant and without a judge. A cop types a reason in a box and the box does not check. A man in Burleson, Texas, told deputies his girlfriend had taken abortion pills. He showed them the photographs, the FedEx envelope, the instructions. Deputies opened a death investigation into a non-viable fetus, and the district attorney told them the state could not charge her, and they searched anyway: 83,345 cameras across 6,809 networks, a month of everywhere she had been. The reason they typed was had an abortion, search for female. The search reached Illinois and Washington, where what she did was legal. They found her in Dallas. She came into the sheriff’s office a week later, and they thought she had come to explain the fetus, and she had come to report that the man who called them had put a gun to her head. A sheriff in Jerome County, Idaho ran his wife’s plate more than seven hundred times in three months. He typed the same reason every time. Test. The attorney general found nothing to charge him with. He retired in April. The Institute for Justice counts at least twenty-two officers who used the system to track people they were romantically interested in, and calls that almost certainly an undercount. And the cameras keep falling.
Become ungovernable.
Israel drops more bombs within the last few years than were dropped during the entirety of ww2 and its significantly impacted the entire planet, warming more of the atmosphere and hastening this process for what little there was achieved during the 2020 quarantine when emissions sank. One of the worlds largest polluters is the united states military, with emissions and waste rivaling the entire output of industrializing countries.
“In 1910, the majority of our group made an attempt at conciliation and agreement with Comrade Trotsky. Vladimir Ilyich was strongly opposed to this attempt and, 'as a punishment,' as it were, for my persistence in the attempt to reach agreement with Trotsky, insisted that I should be the one sent by the Central Committee as its representative on the editorial board of Comrade Trotsky's newspaper. By the autumn of 1910—having worked on this editorial board for several months—I was convinced that Vladimir Ilyich was right in his opposition to my 'conciliatory' line, and with his consent I resigned from the editorial board of Comrade Trotsky's organ.”
“The experiment in joint work with Trotsky—which, I make bold to say, I performed with sincerity, as is proved precisely by the way Trotsky is now exploiting my letters and private conversations—showed that conciliation irresistibly slips into defence of Liq-uidationism and definitely takes the side of the latter." (L. Kame-nev, Two Parties.)”
- Stalin, quoting Kamanev, in The Fifteenth Congress of the C.P.S.U.(B.), December 2-19, 1927
incredibly amused that Lenin chose to punish Kamanev for trying to reconcile with Trotsky by forcing him to actually go hang out with the man until he was calling Lenin to come get picked up
Hello, I work for a large moderately evil corporation and for at least five years now I have to sign a yearly thing to say I will never ever have one of these devices in the same room as me while I work.
My large moderately evil employer takes it for granted that these things are spying on me at all times, and you should too.
i go to the shop and I ask if they have any raspberries. they say no, they used to sell raspberries, but they haven't had any in stock in the last 15 years. I ask if there's somewhere else I can go to buy raspberries. They say no, with confidence and pride, they're the only shop around who has ever sold or will ever sell raspberries. Other shops might sell other fruit, sure, but they have a monopoly on all raspberries forever. I ask if they're possibly planning on them selling them again in future? they say they can't tell me that.
on the way home, I encounter someone eating raspberries. I ask and they tell me that they grow their own, they got some seeds from the shop back in The Raspberry Days and kept them. They take me to a field of many beautiful raspberry plants and invite me to pick my own, they're free for all the town to pick whenever they'd like.
someone comes up behind us. It's the shop manager, President of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa. he hatefully throws a bob-omb that blows up and kills both of us instantly for stealing 200 trillion dollars worth of potential Raspberry Shop That Doesn't Do Raspberries Anymore profits that they weren't making and then he turns around to the camera with a big thumbs up and says don't do piracy or something ok please
Latest covid wastewater map from the CDC. "Levels are low" because not only has the CDC redefined the levels of community spread three times since 2023, we're only getting data from maybe 1/4 of the country. Most places still reporting are rising. Mask up.
saw a reddit post about a trans woman applying to be moved to a woman's prison and even ignoring all the transphobic shit in the comments. like half the people were talking about the assault and rape of prisoners as if it's a good thing, that they deserve it for being "violent criminals"
idk maybe i just thought "people shouldn't be raped and abused for breaking a law" was a take most people agreed with but i guess im just naive
like how the fuck are we meant to get anywhere if when you mention v-coding the overwhelming response is "well if they didn't wanna get violently raped they shouldn't have broken the law"
Especially when that law is something like "Don't be trans." Or just a good prosecutor taking over a case and making their money's worth from whoever has a bone to pick with some random trans woman.
i recently heard that a trans woman in kansas was arrested because she had "m" on her license (obeying the kansas law ofc), but the officer didn't believe she was trans
trans women also are more likely to be arrested during things like traffic stops because the police officer thinks they're a sex worker.
The people advocating for v-coding will say right afterwards that they're feminists too.
You know what would be a good story? a fat girl vampire.
can you imagine?
“I’ve never seen you eat are you insecure” “no…”
“here let me lift that for you” “I got it, thanks” *uses inhuman strength to lift bags*
“I’ve never seen you go to the beach, do you have trouble shopping for a bathing suit” “haha… yeah”
“There’s no way that girl can catch me… she’s huge!” “Hello, dinner.” *running with super fast vampire speed*
“She can’t fit in here! I’m safe!” *turns into a gas and slips under the door*
“How come you never go out?” “Well, I never get invited to parties…”
“Come to the gym with me! We should lose weight” “Not in a thousand years.” (incidentally, that’s when she was last alive.)
“You need to go on a diet!” “I’ll start with you.” *literally eats that person*
hello
Oh, I'm sure Troy's Helen is at best just an average lady in looks and deeds...of course they had to say she's gorgeous and special or otherwise everything else about it would be quite pointless.
Greek Misogynist 1: I can't believe we're gettin' killed over a lass who's, at best, a seven out o' ten.
Greek Misogynist 2: Eh, don't be daft. Her old man's a right big somebody.
Greek Misogynist 1: Bloody hell. Just 'cause her old man pays me wages, I've got to put up wi' this?
Greek Misogynist 2: That's life, lad. Dyin' in some bloody wooden horse cunt, over a seven out o' ten.
Israeli banks are planning to end services to Palestinian banks in the West Bank. They are the only means by which Palestinians in the West Bank can receive and transfer money internationally, and they also provide the system through which many Palestinians are paid. This is a disaster in the making.
Israeli banks have informed their Palestinian counterparts that they intend to end critical banking services within weeks, Israeli and Pales
Saw a post about the 'Man in the Hole' and the continued genocide of indigenous groups by settler-states, and someone's in the reblogs waxing poetic about how they wish they could have went back in time and recorded his language and stories and the like.
Even in a fictional situation where time travel is possible, the westerner does not think of helping the indigenous man - all they wish to do is flay us and keep our skins preserved in amber, so that they may have a more complete collection of artefacts.
Hey dolls, where are we getting cute matched panties with a wide gusset and bralettes/bras with smaller cup bigger band size these days? I used to swear by Parade but venture capitalists killed it and I haven’t found a good replacement brand yet.
Im the kind of autistic that once I find something that works i buy mostly that until I can’t - like 75% of my bras and panties are Parade lmfao.
While we at it, got recs for places to get cute size 13+ shoes that aren’t Pleasers and don’t fall apart instantly? How about queer and/or Black clothing shops in general?
If you got recs, put em in reblog or replies! If you don’t, reblog this so others might contribute!
