DIEGO LUNA on CASSIAN ANDOR
Rogue One Interview (2016)

I know that this post is over a year old, but I'm still mad at what season 2 could have been. It would have been amazing to see the writers connect the dots between and not wanting to join the rebellion and dedicating everything he is to it.
Like, if they really needed Cinta to die, I would have preferred to see Cassian be put in a position where Cinta is left behind during some escape and if he chooses to go back and save Cinta, he would guarenteed fail the mission. So you see Vel yelling at him to turn around and he chooses not to. He chooses the rebellion over his friends. Over Vel's love.
Vel would never forgive him and he doesn't forgive himself either. He swallows it.
We would see the process of him hardening himself for the sake of the rebellion. We would see him learn that in order to succeed, he needs to learn how to lie and betray the people he loves and trusts. Because he truly believes it is worth sacrificing everything and everyone he cares about.
Have him choose to lie to Bix. Have him lose Brasso in a way that actually MEANT something.
Ugh if only, if only
yepyepyep.
