Shoutout to Disney’s Descendants for having the most vibes based worldbuilding I’ve ever seen in my life. Legitimately thinking about any of it for more than two seconds makes everything crumble apart logistically and I think there’s an art in that.

[Video ID: A woman supporting a small baby sitting on a counter. The woman begins to scrub grime off a stove top with a paper towel. The baby begins laughing with unrestrained delight. The woman attempts to keep cleaning, but the baby laughs every time she does. The woman begins to laugh too, and eventually both of them are laughing too hard to do anything else. /end ID]
Fire & Water
After a long time, another finished illustration from J.R.R. Tolkien's books. I experimented a bit with the composition. I wanted to achieve a dramatic moment and contrast between water and fire. But at the same time I tried to capture the atmosphere and lore of the book.
Bard the Bowman is depicted as a true archer captain (not as a smuggler), and there is also an old thrush. I was inspired by Tolkien's original illustrations of Lake town. The Big Dipper constellation is also shown here, because at the beginning of this chapter it is written that a few people from Lake Town were walking around and looking at the stars (typical of Tolkien...😊), as they liked, shortly before the dragon arrived. The highest star of this constellation also symbolically points to the dragon's weakness.
The Big Dipper constellation is mentioned a few chapters earlier, when Bilbo was traveling with raft-elves along the Forest River towards the Long Lake...
I started painting this illustration about a year ago, but... for a long time I didn't make any progress because I didn't know how to continue. Long expected-illustration!😅
This illustration is painted with acrylic paints on paper in size 210x297mm.
During the Edo period in Japan it was quite common to portray actors as animals instead of people due to government restrictions. This print titled 'Rabbits as Okaru and Kanpei' is by Yoshifuji dated 1873.

Writing 和風細雨 (he2feng1xi4yu3; gentle breeze and light rain) with a cat's tail on a water-writing mat.
Water-writing mats turn black when wet and return to their original colour once dry, so they are often used to practise calligraphy with water. The black colour allows you to see your writing clearly, and the mat can be reused as soon as the writing dries and disappears.

i think this captures the defining pathology of the collective social media psyche right now. we are in the thrall of people who are wantonly cruel but who also demand to be coddled at all times in every way
It's gonna be ok, kid.
You'll be alright.

Please remember that almost everyone around you is traumatized. I didn’t understand this when I was younger. I wondered why people acted so strangely and irrationally. Maybe all children wonder this. The author Robert Anton Wilson said (paraphrasing), “We have never seen a completely sane adult human.” No one makes it out of this life alive. It’s not their fault. Mercy, kindness, forgiving — these are what makes one human. They are other names for love. People break in the strangest of ways.
“Under the present brutal and primitive conditions on this planet, every person you meet should be regarded as one of the walking wounded. we have never seen a man or woman not slightly deranged by either anxiety or grief. we have never seen a totally sane human being." — Robert Anton Wilson
#elven culture dictates that the declaration of war must SPECIFICALLY be read and confirmed by the other party#so the elves decide 'fine we will... uh... teach the orcs to read???'#and of course those lanky weirdos immediately fall in love with the soft beefcakes#no war after all. AND orc-written romantic fantasy novels are a hit in the elven kingdom - via @urbeastprime
