The human body is capable of all sorts of things to survive difficult situations. Cha Do Hyun (Ji Sung) is a third-generation business heir who developed dissociative identity disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder) in the aftermath of several life-threatening traumatic events. He tries to regain control over his life with the help of Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung Eum), a first-year psychiatric resident who helps him secretly. But Ri Jin’s twin brother, Oh Ri On (Park Seo Joon), is a writer who is determined to uncover the unscrupulous lives of the rich and starts following Do Hyun around. Can Do Hyun take control over his condition before one of his seven personalities takes control over him instead?
This was it. This was the best drama of 2015 in my opinion. It doesn’t get better than this. Whether that is a good thing or not i’m still deciding. The plot of the series was down right brilliant. I know that 2015 released a bunch of split personality drama’s, however this one captured me from the get go.
A fiercely bright and bubbly doctor chooses to help Cha Do Hyun with his issue of split personalities and as she does, she becomes close to each part of him and falls in love along the way. Brilliant. I love that idea, it wasn’t one I had seen before 2015 and the in which the plot developed it never dragged on too much. The writers knew where the strength of the series lied, with the two leads and the split personalities, hence the little screen time for the second leads. Which worked perfectly for the drama series.
Of course this is a Korean Drama, so it’s not all smooth sailing as family background and mixed childhoods play a major role in our protagonists life however thanks to the various personalities Ji Sung plays, it never feels boring or slow. One thing I can say about the use of the split personalities is the fact that the writers never randomly brought them up, they always played a purpose in moving the plot forward or helping us as an audience as well as Ri Jin a tad more about Do Hyun’s background and insecurities.
I love the fact that the main lead was in a love triangle with himself, as Shin Se-Ki, one of the personalities. It was a unique and interesting idea to bring to the table and it worked really well.
This series has everything you could possibly want, romance, comedy, fun, sadness and drama.
It is tricky with long dramas as there is a risk of the plot becoming tedious and boring but I must say the writers did so well with keeping it exciting and heart warming. Be prepared for tears, that’s all I can say!
Acting- Incredible. There is no other way to describe it. I have never been so impressed with an actor’s performance in a korean drama before than I have watching this series.
When it comes to Ji Sung, most people will already have high expectations as he delivers each time and in each role. However within this particular role he had to play 7. Each are executed to perfection. Each character distinctive yet true to his original character of Do Hyun. Ji Sung had the almost impossible task of making us believe in each different character and essentially had the role to make the audience love them, he succeed, with what seemed like little to no effort whatsoever. I was outraged he never won all the best actor awards for his solo performance within this series. He was absolutely incredible and I will stand by that and no doubt will many others.
Hwang Jung Eum, she was harder to get my head around before i started watching the series. If i’m honest, I was never a big fan of her work and actively avoided anything she was in. I had seen her on certain variety shows and she never seemed likable to me. After this series, I can tell you my opinion on her has changed and I have gone back to various series she has been in and have loved them! She blew me away with her performance within this drama. She had to react off Ji Sung and his change in character and she did so perfectly which in turn made Ji Sung shine. It’s a rare thing to find two actors bounce off each other in a scene and in turn make each other stand out. Perhaps it’s lasting chemistry from their previous drama Secret. Her crying scenes were simply stunningly realistic and gut wrenching. I guarantee it will make you choke up with emotion watching the story unfold for these two characters.
The chemistry the leads have is undeniable. Park Seo-joon is another person who shines in his role as Oh Ri-on. He plays Hwang Jung Eum’s brother with an unrequited love for her. He plays the dumb brother with a secret pass time amazingly well. His chemistry with Jung is also undeniable, so much in fact that they landed another drama series as the main leads in She was pretty.
Each actor within the series had their role to play and they are all portrayed perfectly, it’s hard to find fault with the actors within this series.
I am normally quite harsh when it comes to music as it all comes down to personal preference and whether it fits in with what I am reviewing, however this one song: Jang Jae In- Auditory Hallucination, had me straight away. I love it and felt it fit in incredibly well with the series. It portrays the split personalities and desperation throughout the characters. It’s simply haunting and it works stunningly well.
There are plenty of other songs within the ost that also do a brilliant job of bringing out the feelings of our main characters, such as Park Seo-joon ’s OST called Letting you go.
The type of ost songs that do well are the ones that you can listen to and it brings you back to the drama series. This is why the Kill me Heal me OST is rated highly.
There was no denying that I was going to rate this drama so highly. It is the best drama from 2015 and arguably one of the best over the past recent years. I don’t think you can get better than this drama.
