These gentle, 400-pound giants are splashing back from the brink of extinction.
Green sea turtles have been an iconic endangered species since the 1980s, mostly due to bycatch in fishing nets and taking adults and eggs for food. I have core childhood memories of watching Steve Irwin talk about sea turtle conservation in front of a beach full of nesting green sea turtles.
After 45 years of conservation efforts, their population now meets the IUCN criteria for Least Concern rather than Endangered.
For a species with such a slow life history (it takes green sea turtles decades to reach sexual maturity) and a nearly global population, this is a Really Big Deal. This is the kind of long term conservation victory that many of the amazing humans who started working on green sea turtle conservation back in the 80s didn't live to see.
Just because something isn't fixed right away doesn't mean it won't ever be fixed. Just because the work is slow doesn't mean it isn't worth doing.
You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?
Three cueing. Once you learn about it, a whole lot of very frustrating online discourse with US Americans makes so much sense 😭
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have
If you were taught to read with the three cueing method, and now struggle to read fluently, you can still learn to read properly!

Writing Promt: An Unsent Letter
Every morning when I wake up the first thing I see is the spot on the wall where a picture of us used to be. You can still see the pinhole. I tore the photo down after you left. I threw it in the trash and then fished it out again because it's the only photo I have of us together. I can't look at it, and I can lose it either. It's under a stack of unpaid bills so I don't have to look at it.
And if by some miracle I make it out of bed without thinking of you, I try to make plans, and then hurts all over again, because all of my plans include you. I didn't realize it until you left.
I got the letter you sent me. The one with all the photos of you and your new fiancee. "I know I've only known her for six months, but it feels like forever. I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together." I've known you for twelve years.
Why didn't you let me take more photos?
I love him so much what is his problem 😭😭😭

Which OC sent this Snapchat?
Which OC bought the shirt?
Artem sent the snap while shopping with Zora. She thought it was hilarious and bought it from him. Charlie ends up wearing it.
Haven't seen much about this abhorrent bill on here so thought I should share this. Find your rep here.
Sample call script:
I’m calling to tell Representative __ to oppose H.R. 7661. This bill would pressure schools to remove titles that discuss lived experiences that some politicians find controversial. I don’t think trans people are controversial. Legal precedents such as the Miller Test and state-level obscenity laws already ensure that there are no inappropriate books on school shelves. It’s unacceptable to me as a taxpayer to see so much time and effort being wasted on legislation that won’t do anything to help students learn and grow.
MARCH 18, 2026 Update from Authors Against Book Bans:
Yesterday, HR 7661 passed the markup stage in committee, and will now be recommended to the US House of Representatives for a full vote. Authors, publishing professionals, and educators are well-aware of this bill and its dangers, but people outside the industry seem largely ignorant of it. We need that to change.
Call or email your representative in the US House and tell them to vote NO on HR 7661 when it comes up for a vote. Here are some links that can help you do that:

I write these words with tears streaming down my face. My sister, not yet two years old, is wasting away before our eyes. Cruel malnutrition is turning her tiny body into a shadow of what it once was, and I stand helpless before my mother’s cries, her endless tears as she watches her fade away little by little.

UPDATE 8/31 The family has fled to the beach after multiple evacuations and had to leav… Raina Carter needs your support for Help Tahrir
$9.4k/$10k
This is my previous post about them, with more detail.
This is a family of 13, including 8 children.
They are stuck in Gaza, all sharing a tent with another family by the sea.
They have been vetted by 90-ghost.
They are counting on us to help with reblogs and donations!
The Color Game. “Humans can’t reliably recall colors. This is a simple game to see how good (or bad) you are at it. We’ll show you five colors, then you’ll try and recreate them.” I scored 39/50 but got a perfect score on one color.
Remembering is less of an issue than navigating the colour slider, tbh.
addicted to this
to be able to survive, we all need access to resources like food, water, and medicine. global economic structures ensure that most people don't have access to these resources, so we must sustain constant effort to convince those with money to share with us so that we can survive.
for those who are disabled by the conditions of their lives and bodies, who cannot perform paid labor, who cannot write beautiful words requesting help every day--how are they supposed to survive in this system? they're not. the whole world allows them to die. this is social murder, eugenics, genocide.
to be disabled is to have something done to you. it is not simply a fact of the body. my friend Fadel (@fadel-dani) was born with a blood disorder, but it is only when he is denied access to medication and nutrition that he begins fainting. he experiences chronic pain from his injuries, but this pain cannot be divorced from its social causes: the bombing his home and systematic destruction of Gaza's healthcare system.
I asked @fadel-dani how he was doing today, and he told me:
I'm doing so bad. I can't use the phone. I'm in a very bad stomach pain. And I suffer from vomiting and nausea. I haven't been able to use Tumblr for a week because of the pain and fainting. Extremely tired 😭😭😭
he is too sick to be able to write consistent fundraising posts. please help him. he deserves to survive. he is a person. he is my friend. he matters.
Thank you so much to everyone who inquired about me during my absence from Tumblr. I've been experiencing fainting spells and loss of consciousness for the past week.
My health is very poor, and I can barely write this reblog to tell you that I desperately need your help right now. Please help me so I can buy my medication as soon as possible and raise the funds for my travel and surgery. Please donate.
My eyes are swollen from crying. I can't save my father; ignoring this could cost him his life.
I am sick and collapsing in Gaza while my father fades away and my entire family clings to me in fear.
Donate now. Your help could be the reason he survives.
Nader's father urgently needs medical treatment. Please donate and help in any way you can.

This might seem like a small donation to you, but it means life to me and my parents. Please don't ignore us and donate now. Please save my father.
