Slay the Princess Character Analysis Masterpost!

i just realized theres a huge similarity between how aro and ace characters are treated in fandom to how enbies are treated, primarily within the context of shipping.

despite their respective orientations and genders generally being acknowledged, they're often treated as what is most convenient or acceptable. that is, treated the same as alloromantic and allosexual or binary gendered characters.

aro characters are being shipped as though they are alloromantic. ace characters are portrayed in sexual relationships as if they are allosexual. how often do you see people portraying these characters' orientations beyond the surface level?

nonbinary characters are referred to with gendered terms based on whoever they're being shipped with. with a woman? they're called "yuri", "sapphic", etc. with a man? it's "yaoi", "mlm", etc. how often do you see people using nonbinary-focused terminology for these pairings? why is the binary-gendered partner a priority in most cases?

when the problem is brought up, the "rebuttals" are the same: "aros/aces can still date/have sex!", "some nonbinary people identify with [lesbian, wlw, sapphic, yuri]/[gay, mlm, achellian, yaoi]!". neither of of these address the issue that this is what fandoms with these characters default to.

this is not to say you can't headcanon characters to have these traits. as someone who is all three, all i want is for people to acknowledge the full spectrum of being aro, ace, or nonbinary, not whichever is most convenient.

Dear santa i know it's a bit early but for chrismas i would like a story with trans characters including non binary ones, whose fandom is not just half queerphobic people denying any queerness in the story and half a massive trans inflamatory cannibalistic infighting. I also want the non binary characters to not just be walking discourse for the sake of existing. We already get much bullshit in real life, i just wish i could see people like me in fiction without it becoming a whole headache, at least.... I will leave the cookies and milk in....oh, you say you can't do miracles? You would rather me ask for a dragon? Oh, ok...can i have a blue one...

So, remember that iconic quote from Minecraft ARG but the Protagonist is a Speedrunner?

well, I was watching a playthrough of the Stanley Parable a couple days back, and I noticed a specific line in the Not Stanley ending that sounded familiar, so I screenshotted it and...

I don't know if Oneshef plays the Stanley Parable (I mean, it would make sense tbh) or if this line even was an intentional reference, but it would be pretty funny if it was. Imagine making the most epic fanart for a creepypasta and it turns out that line was a reference to the Stanley Parable of all things!

However, there's something else interesting about this: The Not Stanley ending is a very interesting one, because this specific scene is where (despite you going against the Narrator before) you decide to play the Narrators game and see it through to the end, only to get stopped at your boss's office.

Normally, the way to get through is with a keypad and a code the Narrator gives you, but in the Not Stanley ending, the keypad is swapped out with a voice receiver, and the Narrator encourages you to speak the code into the mic.

There's just one issue: The Stanley Parable cannot use your mic. There is no option to connect a mic to the game, and it never prompts you. No matter how loudly you yell the code, you simply cannot be heard.

Of course, the Narrator doesn't know this, and as time passes, he gets more annoyed. You have the code, you know what to do, why are you failing at the final stretch? Were you just messing with him? Do you think it's funny to waste his time? Eventually, he gets fed up waiting for you, and delivers that line.

Soon after, the screen cuts to you standing over the iconic two doors, with Stanley beneath, not moving. The Narrator speaks to him, begging him to make a choice, any choice, just do something, but he remains motionless. As if he can't move.

In my opinion, this is such a huge parallel to the ending of Minecraft ARG but the Protagonist is a Speedrunner and I would honestly be surprised if it wasn't intentional.

Anyways I happened to notice this similarity and I haven't seen anyone reference it before so I decided to post about it

part of the problem with amatonormativity is that if you aren't interested in a long-term monogamous relationship people assume you will be a miserable empty incomplete shell of a person so you have to insist on your ability to be genuinely fulfilled by things other than marriage/monogamy/romance/etc. but at the same time society is shaped in a way where not being interested in those things can easily make you alienated, between marriage and reproduction being depicted as natural life stages that everyone needs to go through to be a fulfilled adult and it being considered standard to prioritize your romantic relationships over your platonic ones. and if you ever express loneliness or anxiety or guilt over this experience then people take that as proof that you just need to Find The One to make you realize that all your feelings and desires were actually just immaturity/fear of commitment/trauma this whole time and the societal norm IS the only way for you to be truly happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
