What I would give.
A white moon to see your face.
A yellow moon to touch your cheeks.
A red moon to kiss your lips.
And a blue moon to be the air you breathe.

What I would give.
A white moon to see your face.
A yellow moon to touch your cheeks.
A red moon to kiss your lips.
And a blue moon to be the air you breathe.
Perched on the thin plastic branch,
Beak hidden among its own feathers, eyes closed.
Will you fall?
Do you cry?
Rocking back and forth on the thin plastic branch,
Gray, white and dark.
What are you dreaming about?
A life outside the cage?
Words, words, words.
You. You are poetry.
Amazingly motivating. Have so many things I want to say to the world but don't know where to start or how.
fantasy book with witches and wizards and magical people but all magic has a price, like
main character, in awe and slightly terrified: what did you have to give up to be able to control storms with your mind?
powerful enchanter, fighting back tears as they pull down the hood of their cloak to reveal a knotted oily mess: my beautiful luscious hair….no matter how many times i wash or brush it, it always looks like this
main character: [horrified gasp]
fortune teller: and speak up when asking your question, these are my cards so they share my partially-deafness
other character, sympathetically: oh, had to trade good hearing for seeing the future?
fortune teller: no, asshole, i was born with it. i got seeing the future for trading in my ability to wink
there’s a legend in this fantasy land about a powerful enchanter who traded their ovaries for the power to create earthquakes. the grumpy semi-sentient force of nature who negotiates these magic deals had thought it was pretty great one, sure to make the recipient of the deal regret making it soon enough (after all, the point is having to suffer a bit in exchange for magic, because life sucks even in magical fantasy kingdoms)
however, soon afterwards, the Grumpy Semi-Sentient Force of Nature realized the enchanter had been ecstatic to be rid of periods and didn’t care about not having biological children. the GSSFN felt somewhat cheated by this and ever since has had a strict no-trading-internal-organs policy
“fucking humans messing with the system,” it was quoted as saying
actually, cheating the Grumpy Semi-Sentient Force of Nature out of the suffering it hopes to inflict with the magic deals is a time honored tradition in Magical Fantasy Kingdom, which is primarily made up of sassy little shits. most of the kingdom’s mythology is made up of trickster figures
there’s the legend of the smooth-talking thief who managed, by describing a certain talent of hers as “the ability to form small growths out of her skin and then reabsorb them” with enough quick confusing descriptions to trade the ability to get pimples for the power to become invisible
there’s the boy who brought the GSSFN a bucketful of cold, liquid silver in exchange for the power to cure a certain sickness, only for the GSSFN to realize once the sun had come up that the bucket contained only water reflecting moonlight
there’s the monarch who offered to trade in their power to destroy people with only their words for the seemingly much less valuable power to turn one grain of rice into two grains — only for the GSSFN to realize later it had gotten the ruler’s cutting sarcasm in payment for a power that could end a famine
every year the Grumpy Semi-Sentient Force of Nature gets visits from tens of jewish witches and wizards solemnly offering to give up eating all foods that come from pigs or eating meat at the same time as dairy in exchange for the powers they want
“DO YOU THINK YOU’RE FUCKING CLEVER” says the GSSFN, who has frankly had enough of this shit
UBI needs to happen. via antiwork
I think most importantly, it would give us the leverage to say “no”. To walk away from bad jobs and abusive managers. To refuse to work in unsafe environments. To demand better pay.
To demand better, because the options are no longer “suck it up” or “die”.
The counter-argument: Not having UBI is in the interests of those in power who want to do anything to the people they are in power over in order to remain in power.
If the greed of the few should come before the need of the many.
Headcanon - There was a picture that went viral when Rumi was a baby of Celine holding her while balancing a diaper bag with stains on her shirt and her hair becoming thin from lack of care. Magazines took it and used it to mock Celine for no longer being the beautiful idol she once was.
I like the idea of a kindly older Jeju local/neighbour who knows what it’s like after raising her own kids sees it and ends up just…stopping by. She might make up an excuse for why she ventured so far from the main road but she’s not shy in asking if Celine needed anything. Groceries, help cleaning, someone to watch Rumi for an hour while Celine gets some sleep… That kind of thing. And Celine’s too prideful to take it at first, insisting that she’s got it covered. (The disaster zone in the kitchen and living room of the house are definitely not indicators that Celine’s barely keeping it together. Definitely not.)
But the woman was a mom herself. In fact, she’s a grandmother now. Her own daughter is going through it with a three year old, so she knows the brave face new moms sometimes put on. She pushes, gently of course, but Celine’s running on about four hours of sleep and can’t remember the last time she had a shower that lasted longer than 30 seconds, so it doesn’t take much. The woman ends up doing the mountain of dishes in the kitchen.
About a week later, another woman shows up (this one under the pretence of growing too many zucchini and checking to see if Celine wanted any). She talks about how much of a handful her son had been but promises Celine it will get easier as Rumi gets older. She helps by doing a load of laundry and giving Celine some tips for making her own veggie purées once Rumi is ready for that.
A few days later, the woman who runs a local restaurant shows up with a few easy-prep meals.
Then it’s a mom with a box of baby clothes her child grew out of.
Very soon Celine has a whole network of local women to call on. And things don’t feel so daunting anymore.
(Of course, the woman who started it would never mention her knowledge of the legendary women who keep the island safe from monsters who stalk the night. Of how she remembers seeing Celine sneak through the shadows, vanquishing a demon who was about the break into the woman’s house. Of how she knows Celine has given everything to keep the island safe, so it was only fair that the island help her in return.)
Okay but why is this giving….
Celine is taking care of a baby she doesn’t fully understand and gets the help of a new community and she lives out in the middle of nowhere for the safety of her and her baby. (Celine is also headcanoned to garden and Hana in the show does to save money).
On a more serious note, I adore Celine having a community of women who understand that Celine is doing her best, battling depression, some kind of secret night fighting, and raising a baby that is not hers. Shes doing her best but she needs help so they give it to her but…in a sneaky way until she realizes what they’re doing and accepts the help.
Demon hunting is the kind of secret everyone in town (the closest to the compound) knows of but everyone makes sure to keep it hush. There's a reason the hunters' compound is in Jeju.
For some reason, demons loved breaking into the human world in Jeju, a less protected place. Maybe that's why, after a few generations of hunters, they decided to establish their training grounds in there. The constant attacks from demons still live in the collective mind of the villagers, there's still historical documents explaining the atrocities, even if they are wildly believed to be nothing more than myths.
The villagers know of the secluded compound, always inhabited by three young women and their mentors, generation after generation. They also know it's the safest place to be if something unexplainable threatens their safety back home. Many times, villagers have sought refuge in the compound, some of these villagers still alive, if old and with scarce memories that feel more like a fever dream.
They have seen generations of hunters growing up, just as they have seen most of them die way too young.
But this generation was different. Hunters died young, but usually at middle age, when the new hunters had been already trained and the older ones had gotten too comfortable and too old to keep up with the physical strain.
This generation saw the middle aged mentors die, along with the new hunters in their early twenties. Only one had survived, barely.
Chaos had broken right while Miyeong was giving birth, a couple of older women helping her deliver, the kind that had seen a few demons before. The mentors rushed to town, protecting all the innocent villagers and guiding them to the sacred tree. Celine and thirdlight were tasked with keeping the compound safe, but hoards upon hoards of demons kept rushing in, the Honmoon too weak as the half demon child was being brought to life.
The mentors brought the villagers to safety before dying, one after the other. Miyeong gave birth to a purple-haired baby. Thirdlight collapsed. The Honmoon stabilized. Celine was getting rid of the last hoard. She got to Miyeong. A straggler. Miyeong gave her last breath, right in front of the two women that had helped her deliver. Celine killed the demon, the last one, before falling into a pool of her own blood.
To say that the villagers, specially those two women, remembered that day would be a euphemism. They had all seen the bodies of the dead hunters. And they had all seen Celine, bloodied all over, running on fumes, as she kept the weight of the world on her shoulders, all by herself. They had been the ones to stitch her up, the ones to hold the half-demon baby in their arms as Celine lay unconscious for days. The best doctors of the village tended to Celine, the young men and women fixed everything that had been broken, the mothers cared for the baby, the elderly cleaned the blood off of all surfaces and lied to the news reporters about what had happened. All the kids and all the vulnerable people had been brought up to the compound to stay close to the sacred tree, as the world lay completely unprotected. They slept in turns, keeping watch with pitches and forks and anything they could find, keeping everyone and anything away from Celine and Miyeong's baby girl.
They were scared, terrified, but they wouldn't let anyone, anything, risk Celine's recovery.
And Celine had recovered. She stood up and faced the world while carrying grief and the weight of the world on her shoulders, never complaining, never faultering. The villagers had seen her sneek in, baby Rumi strapped to her chest, into the village and silently take out any demons that dared haunt their homes. They had heard her song many a times during the night, always a lullaby of some sort.
And then the egregious news had hit them square in the face. Reporters mocking Celine for the way she looked, for looking exhausted, for looking anything but perfect, for having dark eyebags, for having messy hair, for having simple and stained clothes, for carrying a baby everywhere with her.
They knew Celine, they had seen her grow up, had seen her fight to the point of collapse. They had seen her lose everything. They knew how she was, they knew her stubbornness, her guilt, her defeatedness. So they coordinated. They made plans.
They would help her, the kid who had lost everything protecting them.
We need way more fics about the 4 elements series, all four of them. I definitely need more ApoLada and now FaiKaphrao too. And I need more Wathinwanich interactions! I love all their characters and their shenanigans so much. I can't have enough. Where are my fellow fanfiction writers at?
I LOVE COLLABORATIVE SOTRYTELLING I LOVE CREATING THINGS TOGETHER I LOVE "YES AND"ING WITH OTHERS I LOVE "NO BUT WHAT ABOUT-"S I LOVE HEARIJG MY FRIENDS' IDEAS I LOVE BOUNDING OFF OF THEM I LOVE ART I LOVE STORIES I LOVE ALL THE DIFFERENT PASSIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED I LOVE ALL THE DIFFERENT MEDIA IT TAKES I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE
I'd really love to try writing a story, original maybe, with other people, or even just one. I feel like it would be so much fun, like yes let's bounce off ideas together and drafting together and motivating each other into making something of our own. I know some good chemistry must be needed to be able to write with other people and I don't even know where to find people to do this with with similar interests.
Sometimes our thirst is so great that drinking a few drops only makes the thirst grow worse.
I've always liked listening to people speak and tell their stories, there's something magical in enthusiastic or emotional storytelling. It makes us human.
I wish I could write those stories, across time and cultures. It would be a good way of remembering that, despite our differences, and sometimes because of them, we aren't so different after all. And we do need more hopeful stories in this time and age.
This is also one of the reasons I love learning languages, it opens our world to new people and experiences and books. There's so much love in the world but we only get to see a little part of it.
Reading philosophy books on sleepless summer nights feels just right. I might be sleep deprived, drinking cold water every half an hour and cursing at the weather and my oven of a room, but I'm having thoughts that connect me with myself and I have never felt more connected with humanity and the universe as I do during these nights. I'm tired but at peace.
You should look up at the moon and the stars tonight. I want you, us, to look up at the same beauty, maybe at the same time.
I love the moon and the stars.
My husband’s job primarily employs adult men but there is one (1) teenage girl and my husband said originally he worried she might be a bit of an outcast but instead every man on the crew was like “huh guess I am a dad/older brother now.”
She was in a car crash on the way to work one morning and called my husband to let him know she’d be late and he was like wtf guess I’m gonna be late too because I’m coming to pick you up and then he told his team and they were like I think you mean WE are coming.
Imagine you are a teenage girl probably rushing to get to work and you crash your probably new car and feel absolutely miserable and now you’ll be late to work but then suddenly in the distance a car full of all the adult men you work with just pulls up and is like “we came all the way here to pick you up” the mental image right now is fr.
Apparently she tried to call her dad but it was 3am and he was obviously sleeping so she called my husband and he not only came to find her but fished her glasses out of the hood of the car (she’d dropped them while looking inside), drove her to the hospital, and told her to take the day off. She insisted on coming back to work so he used his lunch break to watch TV with her to make sure she didn’t doze off (concussion risk).
You’ve heard of the Mom friend but my husband is very much the Dad friend. He said when he answered the phone she said “hey please don’t be mad” and he’s never felt such powerful Fatherhood energy in his life.
Girl: *calls for aid*
Every single dad packed into the car:
This is possibly my favorite response to this post
This girls father: Thanks for helping my daughter out guys
Your husband and all his coworkers:
"But I don't like the ending/the character/the plot point. I would have done it differently."
Yes. Good. Go get a pen. This is where it begins.
And now the need to write consumes me and haunts me even in my sleep. Where it begins for sure.
When sadness falls upon you
And your left eye starts crying
Before you even know why.
It will pass.
