PS
Goodbye! My last post is a re-post hehe
I'm Moving!!!
Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that after today I’ll be posting from a new location. I had to separate my personal blog from my pharmacy blog. The overlap was no bueno.
I will post a link on my new blog to this old one, since Tumblr unfortunately does not have a way of seamlessly separating secondary blogs from a primary one.
I also did NOT want to waste this gorgeous weekend copy and pasting the old posts to the new blog. Patience is not my strong suit.
So follow me here @ http://pharmaceuticallyspeaking.tumblr.com/

BOSTON (MarketWatch) — A new generation of multiple-sclerosis pills is making its way to market, which could prove to be a boon not just for people suffering from the debilitating disease but also for investors in MS drug makers.
I'm Moving!!!

I have some posts that I already made that will post today, but after that no more new posts. If you notice I've been quiet, its because I've moved.

A national association of pharmacy chain stores has vowed to help government officials in the battle against the growing problem of prescription drug abuse. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) submitted a statement to Congress supporting steps to reduce prescription drug abuse, misuse, diversion, and fraud.
This is very real threat. My hospital is constantly updating our manufacturer backorder list. A few on our current list include:
tobramycin
acetylcysteine inhaled
amikacin
dexamethasone IV
bactrim IV
foscarnet
and many, many more...
Open Question:
Just wanted to get some feedback from you guys.
Answer me in my ask box:
Why Pharmacy?
Check this out. Medication adherence is a major reason why patients don't see improvements in their health. Find out how you can help.
thanks I guess for your commentsI am obviously taking this as a learning experience but saccharine was a sweetner. I would not be a rebel if I mispelt a drug because I know that is a serious fault... but a sweetening agent? Seriously?I mean okay, perhaps it is a bigger fault that I perceive it to be. But so many people failed for not writing 'stir' after each step in their methods. Yes, the drug may have percipitated out sedimented down into the solution but it's kinda silly to assume that a person who did not write stir in his/her method, did not stir the product while preparing it.
lol at your scoffing at the sweetening agent. What if your patient was allergic. lol...you know that you didn't use saccharide...however your paperwork says that you did.
I think your professors are just trying to make sure you guys understand the basic concepts. In real life my worksheets are wayyyy watered down and really only consist of the calculations, the ingredients and their lot and expiration dates.
But I only feel confident in doing that because I have learned the basics.
PS I've seen some of your posts and are glad you have realized the importance of these things. Good luck in your educational adventures :)
All the best,

Ok loves, I'm back!...

hdsoliloquies:
because of the bureaucracy of knowledged and experienced people, and their desire to fail as many people as possible.
I’m talking about dispensing.
Remember, 2 weeks ago, I posted a blog asking for luck for my practice dispensing exam (which was worth 2% of my final grade for a paper)? Well,...
Oh Hay...the bureaucracy of which you speak is known as MALPRACTICE. I too was once in your shoes and wondered why they would punish my grade because of a misspelling. Your professors are preparing you for the real world.
Except, ONE little thing. One tiny little thing! On my dispensing worksheet, I misspelt saccharine sodium as saccharide sodium.
And then boom,
My pretty looking 10/10 got crossed off by some moderator and a 4/10 got circled in it’s vicinity. Every other aspect looked perfect! Perfection isn’t something that I have acquired naturally so I was quite pleased with getting everything right.
You fail to realize that your misspelling changed the end product. That is currently NOT what the doctor prescribed and such an error could mean life or death for your patient depending on the drug.
You have committed a classic error of look-alike-sound-alike, also known as LASA. It happens all the time, but thats why we as pharmacists must triple check our work. You could be sued for such an error and hence your failing mark.
Please use this as a learning experience for your future practice and NOT as another reason why our professors are our oppressors. (which is true, lol, but not in this case.)
PS...I don't mean to come off too preachy, but these are lessons best learned now and not when your license is on the line :)
Its my Birthday :)
May all those we lost Rest in Peace, and may those who live with the aftermath find peace or closure.

WOONSOCKET, R.I., April 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Caremark, announced today a donation of $75,000 to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts in Alabama for communities impacted by tornadoes earlier this week.
Pakistan’s organ bazaar is on the uptake once again despite desperate attempts to clamp down on the illegal trade. More reports have surfaced in the international media. This terrifying trend is a great cause for concern and a national disgrace, said Professor Adibul Hasan Rizvi, the president of the Transplantation Society of Pakistan.
According to statistics shared by Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), prior to the legislation, over 1,500 foreigners travelled to Pakistan each year for a kidney transplant. Each patient paid between $10,000 and $20,000 for the procedure.
Wow...this article is heartbreaking. It makes me proud of our transplant programs through the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Since 1984, its been " managing the nation's organ transplant system under contract with the federal government." It "manages the national transplant waiting list, matching donors to recipients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure that donors are matched with recipients based on histocompatibility, location, blood type, etc. It also tracks all transplants occurring per year, as well the number of patients on the waiting lists and also the number of living donors.
Its a pretty amazing website, data-wise. Check it out by clicking the pic, if you've never visited.
4/29/11 - HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Texas Department of State Health Services is urging consumers to rid their cabinets of several over-the-counter drugs that it says are falsely being marketed as antibiotics.
The health department is investigating several dietary supplements under names such as Amoxilina, Pentrexcilina, Ampitrexyl, Citricillin, Amoximiel and Pentreximil.
Authorities say the products' labels falsely suggest that the products are prescription antibiotics; however, the supplements don't appear to contain any active drug ingredients and haven't been approved to treat medical conditions.

I don't think I've ever seen or heard of these products. Be aware my Texan Pharm.Ds
