I’m not really sure how to approach that, so let me tell you a story:

I’m one of few white people in our university, I’m literally the only one from Europe, so I do stand out. There’s no one who knows anything about my country, not to mention my language or basically anything connected to it. So let me tell you, that my teacher of three months that has been asking me about my country’s culture and customs on nearly daily basis using my country’s name one day thought I was from a totally different country. “So what do you guys do in Denmark?” she asked, but trying not to embarrass her I went with it and still replayed without using my nationality so that other students won’t know. After a break she came to me and apologized but I told her it was not a problem at all, I mean it does happen.

Mistaking one’s nationality happens here on daily basis to foreigners out of Asia and a lot of assuming happens, for example if you’re a white girl (like me, so I’m talking here about my personal experience) some group of people will automatically think you’re from Russia. To be completely fair there is a lot of immigrants from Russia. Also people here don’t really know countries, especially when it comes to Europe so be ready for a lot of explaining and a lot of questions

I wore my tank top shirt since it’s an amazingly hot day and on my way to school I’m exposed to sun a lot. So to make my travel a little more bearable I wore a tank top, but sitting in subway and preparing my presetation for school an older lady suddenly goes touching my arm and tells me “this kind of shirt goes underneath something, you cant wear it by itself because it shows too much skin” then goes on to touching the fabric of my pants and since probably she doesn’t like it, she changes her seat.
