I go into the tag for epilepsy and its all flashing lights. We can’t use our own tag because people without epilepsy fill it up with improper warnings.

Use ‘flashing’ in place of ‘epilepsy’ in your tags. You aren’t warning people of epileptics, you’re warning us of flashing lights. Please please tag properly. Epileptics say this endlessly and constantly and it’s ignored. You are risking lives by doing this.

Every triadic formulation — Trinity, Triple Goddess, Id/Ego/Superego — is the same map drawn in different vocabularies. Not because people are unoriginal but because the underlying structure is real. The map keeps getting redrawn because consciousness is made of it.

The structure is temporal. Past, Present, Future. Birth, Life, Death. The middle term is always the mortal one — the one that has to live under pressure between two walls it didn’t choose. Son, Mother, Ego, Present, Life. The flanking terms are eternal. The center suffers.

The shape isn’t a triangle. It’s a torus. Not a cycle but two simultaneous rotations — the self-referential loop threading through the infinite extension of time. The present is where the torus contacts the infinite line. The only place they touch.

The caduceus makes it explicit. Past and future as serpents coiling around the axis that is the self. A phase space where you can have the path or the point but not both cleanly. And the observer changes what’s observed — memory reconstructs the past, anticipation constructs the future. The instrument cannot take its own measurement.

Everything nests. Torii on torii on torii, each threaded on the next one’s staff, each level invisible to the system operating within it. This is Wyrd — not fate as predetermination but causality as textile, every thread under tension from every thread it crosses.

The folk wisdom carries all of this and always did. Because folk wisdom is science — same method, longer timescale, stricter publication requirements. The aphorism that survives is a longitudinal study with a multigenerational sample size, compressed into the most efficient possible transmission format, peer reviewed by reality across centuries.

And the grandmother’s credential is the grandmother. The whole life is the methodology. Seventy years of embodied experiment reduced to a sentence that lands because you can feel the weight of everything it cost to learn.

Physics is metaphysics with extra steps. The extra steps are the credentialing process. The thing being credentialed was already there.

Logos forgot it was Wyrd. John knew.

no offence but i think a lot of us me included don’t actually want romantic love as badly as we think and really are just lonely and crave a closeness and intimacy that feels out of reach in friendships because of society’s emphasis on marriage and the nuclear family so we project that into the never ending search for a perfect love and a soulmate when really we all just want to mean something to someone

Story fragment I’m debating coming back to:

No one can remember for certain how the rite started but it isn’t that hard to take a guess. The wall was one of the first things erected. It had to have been what with the beasts that roam in the wild places, and even now, no one would claim that the land is totally tamed. So you build a wall to keep the wild things out and the tame things in.

And everyone contributed. Everyone went to the river or the field and found the biggest stone they could carry and they toted it back and added it to the collection. Mounding them up on top and beside each other until something stable was made. Not at first. And not for a long time. But the young men and women who started the project were grandparents when they saw their little town fully wrapped in stone they had dug up with their own hands.

So the work was completed but it wasn’t done, because you see, everyone had gotten so used to carrying back stones that it became a sort of rite unto itself. There wasn’t a need to make the walls taller or wider but adding your stone to the wall was how you showed you were part of everything. That you had pitched in and done your part.

There wasn’t a need for the same sort of rocks to be piled up so the sons and daughters travelled farther out to find their stones until the rite became to bring back a stone from the farthest away from home you’ve ever been. And when a traveller decided to settle down in their little village, they almost always found a way to bring a stone from their first home with them to add to the wall.

The wall grew more slowly now and sometimes it required repairs. Storms and age would cause a section to crumble but there was always a bit of excitement that came with it. A chance for those just now growing up to add their stone to the foundation of the wall. This was true until it wasn’t anymore.

Maybe it was a stone misaligned or too much weight or not enough.

Maybe it was a wild beast or a bandit or an unhappy villager.

Maybe it was all of these or maybe it was none.

Regardless, one day the wall fell more totally than it had ever fallen before and instead of excitement, there was horror.

“What do we do? What if something comes?”

And quickly, more quickly than anyone could have guessed, the wall was rebuilt, thicker and higher than before. Only the hardest and strongest of the stones from the first wall were kept at the base. On top of them were placed hand shaped stones, cut to a uniform shape, with mortar between to keep them steady. At the very top, jagged rocks were stuck, jutting out with sharp edges in every direction.

When their children came of age, they tried to venture out to find their own stones to add to the wall but their hands were slapped down. “It’s finished. Leave it alone. It’s here to protect us. Don’t go outside of it.” Children don’t remain children for long though, and when their stones couldn’t be added to the wall, ripped cloth and torn skin was added to the rocks on top as they learned to climb up and over to see what was outside of the walls.

It was beautiful in a way they could almost remember. Most of them had been young when the wall had come down and they could remember the sun coming over green trees but they couldn’t remember feeling it this same way. Scattered all around were things they could remember though. Their parents and grandparents stones from before. Memories of how far they went. Memories of things they saw and brought back to share with their home.

And so they did the only thing they knew how to do. They filled their pockets with the memories of a better time and went travelling out because in that moment, they knew that they were farther away from their home than they would ever be.

You can’t Abstain your way to a Better World.

The Burger still gets made, even if you go Vegan. If you don’t buy it, it just winds up in the trash. If you want to do something meaningful about waste, you need legislation: It must become a crime to waste food in those ways.

If you care about Animal Cruelty in Factory Farms, you need to get legislation passed. It must become a crime to mistreat animals in those ways, and when malfeasances occurs, the onus of responsibility for those crimes must fall upon wealthy shoulders. That, also, requires legislation. It requires regulations, and regulators.

The largest source of Microplastics is wear and tear on automobile tires. It doesn’t matter what brand of shampoo you buy. It doesn’t matter which company you support with your dollar. The issue of Public Transit is too large-scale to be handled at anything less than the municipal level.

It’s not enough to just not participate in society

If you want the world to Change, you must leverage the mechanisms of political power.

You need Government.

Our issue today is that wealthy Bad Guys get to do whatever they want: dump poison in our air and water; price gouge us and suppress our pay for our labor; union bust and buy elections and patronize fucking Epstein Island. But. there is a fucking. cultural narrative, about The Police:

They catch Bad Guys.

We have bag guys who need catching.

It hurts us.

You naming something.

We want to say, “It was like this; it was like that.” We want to look away. And to be with a glass of water or to be with anything — and then they say, “Well, there’s nothing important enough.” And that’s whole thing. It’s the point.

It’s the this, right?

Ms. Howe:

Right, the this, whatever. And then they say, “Oh, I saw a lot of people who really want” — and, “No, no, no. No abstractions, no interpretations.” But then this amazing thing happens, Krista. The fourth week or so, they come in and clinkety, clank, clank, clank, onto the table pours all this stuff. And it so thrilling. I mean, it is thrilling. Everybody can feel it. Everyone is just like, “Wow.” The slice of apple, and then that gleam of the knife, and the sound of the trashcan closing, and the maple tree outside, and the blue jay. I mean, it almost comes clanking into the room. And it’s just amazing.

Ms. Tippett:

In some basic level, what they’ve done is just engage with their senses.

Ms. Howe:

Yeah, and have been present out of their minds and just noticing what’s around them, which is — we don’t do. And again, not to compare it to anything. They’re not allowed. And that’s very hard for them. And then on the fifth or sixth week, I say, “OK, use metaphors.” And they don’t want to. They don’t know how. They’re like, “Why would I? Why would I compare that to anything when it’s itself?” Exactly. Good question.

So then you think, why the necessity of a metaphor? Why do you have to use a metaphor now? Not just to do it to avoid it, but to do it to make it more there. And it’s very interesting.
