I'm always seeing this sentiment of "I have got to make my art weirder" or people begging for weirder art but here's the thing, Weird is not a brand. You cannot rack your brains trying to figure out the "Weird" formula. You don't get weird art by artificially forcing whatever you think is "weird." You get weird art (and I think "weird" is sometimes people groping for a way of saying non-corporatized) by figuring out what you like, deep down, even (especially) if you think it's embarrassing and wallowing in it like a pig
rapid fire things i learned about my boyfriend this morning.
he has never seen disney's the little mermaid
he thought the song Poor Unfortunate Souls was from phantom of the opera
he has never seen phantom of the opera
he thought disney made phantom of the opera
he thought phantom of the opera was animated
"i couldve sworn i saw an animated hunchback"
...wait do you mean the hunchback of notre dame
he thought phantom of the opera was the hunchback of notre dame
I don't think dust needs to exist personally
I really love this website and the people on it a lot

Saxo Grammaticus (c. 1160 – c. 1220) explaining the importance of understanding that all creative work is inherently derivative once you study the oral tradition of storytelling and history and that’s okay because generations have always reformatted tropes and themes to make them relatable to their current audiences

Tyrannosaurus rex (Late Cretaceous) explaining nothing because he’s a don’t give a fuck
Just so we’re clear, if I point out that you did something racist, that’s not the same as me thinking you’re irremediably terrible. You did a racist thing.
You think you don’t do racist things, homophobic things, etc? You do. I caught myself in fat phobic and homophobic lines of thinking/speech just this morning. I’m fucking gay married. Nothing disqualifies you from acting in a way that reflects the society you exist in. We are obliged to fight it. Why not fight it in honesty and with camaraderie?
you know its serious when othar passes up an opportunity to dramatically introduce himself
Ho-leeee shit he isn't playing anymore.
oh no they’re going to start calling democrats the same thing they’ve been calling democrats for 20 years now
"Here’s a trick I learned during the Obama presidency for handling certain types of political labels. Take, as an example, the Tea Party claim that Obama is a Communist. Don’t take the word of the person making the claim (Tea Partiers). Don’t rely on the rebuttal of the target (Obama), because that will just be dismissed. Go to the group itself (Communists) and ask them. Ask an actual Communist if Obama is a comrade and see how they answer. Watch as they laugh at you, then explain in great detail how they wish there was a Communist in the White House, but here’s a long and exhaustive list of why that just isn’t so. Now apply this logic to the claim that Hillary is pretty much the same as a Republican. Ask an actual Republican if they think Hillary Clinton is one of them. Watch them laugh, and then explain in the same exhausting detail why that just isn’t so. Some of them might concede that she’s better than Trump, but that’s not the same thing. Finally, go ask a White Supremacist if Trump is one of them. As they excitedly explain how Trump is the guy they’ve been waiting for all these years, and how he’s really empowered their movement, use this to guide how you will be voting in November."

What is going on with Othar right now?
He has blue eyes, but not usually this blue.
You know who the last character (as far as I can remember) with eyes like this?
like, it's a mad science world, it could be any number of things going on with him.
I also could have forgotten stuff.
ASCENDING OTHAR?????
While that would be an amazing and utterly unforeseen twist (also most of the cast would not survive it, I'm afraid) -
I do think it's mostly the reflected glow from the horde of Lucreziabots.
i named them cruelty of the heart and sickness of the mind
Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
every job can be placed somewhere on the two axes of wet/dry and overpaid/underpaid
dry/underpaid: teacher
dry/overpaid: CEO
wet/underpaid: dishwasher
wet/overpaid: surgeon if you’re bad at it
making a joke is manipulative bc it is coercing the other person into laughing
how tiktok psychology sounds
it’s amazing how women are able to navigate crowded rooms without ever touching a palm to a man’s lower back
you'd think occasionally men would need to touch other men like this to manoeuvre them out of the way but it never happens
more people should write alloromantic characters in qprs tbh. i mean more people should write qprs in general in all circumstances but my particular hill to die on tonight is more alloromantic characters in qprs. in qprs with aromantic partners, in qprs with another alloromantic partner, in qprs with other characters where they could technically have compatible orientations romantically but that's not what kind of relationship they have or want anyway.
there's just a lot of fun stuff there.
