I think that Gruvia's development went from nothing to something because:1.) Juvia's obsession was killing her inside and Gray gives Juvia more attention because she is his nakama and guild mate after all.2.) Juvia was always stalking him, so he practically had no other choice but to make the best of the situation and create a less awkward environment between the two (and for the sake of the entire guild) 3.) Mashima kind of forced it on the two because that's what the fans wanted.
You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
First point: Juvia’s “obsession” was never “killing her” inside. That’s belittling, as this woman was going to give up on Gray at the end of the Tartaros arc and has attempted to sacrifice her life for his because her love is genuine. Further more, Juvia never expects anything from Gray, including reciprocation. That’s why she’s always shocked whenever he’s intimate with her, or shows his sweet side. Your next line makes no sense whatsoever, because if Juvia was just a guild mate and nakama, she would be on the same level as everyone else and receive the same amount of attention from Gray. But she doesn’t because Juvia is more than a friend to Gray. It’s confirmed in the manga. Why do you think Mashima purposely had them do simultaneous suicide for the exact same reason? Because they feel the same way about each other. Gray loves Juvia romantically, accept it.
Second point: I laughed at this one. Juvia was nervous to approach Gray, that’s why she watched him from afar until the Tower of Heaven when she finally gathered up the courage to walk up to him. Gray had no other choice? You really think Gray is that weak minded?! That he’s a push over and has no say? Then you don’t understand his character at all. Gray has chosen to hang out and spend time with Juvia on his own. The sake of the guild? What kind of pathetic excuse is that? The guild doesn’t give a shit about Gray and Juvia’s personal relationship. They have other things to worry about, and there’s other situations that are way more “awkward”. The guild itself is known for being crazy. Juvia is not Gray’s stalker, she is his partner. Why would she “stalk” Gray when she can now stand proudly by his side? Anything related to “stalking” is comic relief that you take too seriously, and you cannot get passed Juvia’s first impression. It’s called character development, look it up.
Third point: This actually bugs me the most, because your first two statements are the same recycled junk we’ve countered already ten fold. The notion of “the author will do [this] to please the fans” is a desperate attempt at an argument when there’s literally zilch left for someone to cling on to. And in most cases, including this one, there’s nothing to support it! Mangaka do not forgo their story due to fan’s wants, Masashi Kishimoto of Naruto and Tite Kubo of Bleach are prime examples, who have confirmed in interviews they planned the way they ended their manga from the start. In Mashima’s case, I shall present you two interviews which completely annihilate your claim:
Q: Does Sensei adjust the storyline based on the reactions of your readers?
Mashima: Very rarely. I don’t completely ignore their comments of course, but in the end, since every reader has different expectations, if I accept every suggestion, then I would not be able to create a proper story. So changing the storyline due to the reactions of the readers alone is quite rare. (x)

This is Juvia’s chapter. I think that both Gray and Juvia had a boom inside of me (impact for him). I think Gray’s fans can be separated into 5 categories/classes.
1. Those who like Gray in his entirety. If Gray is happy, everything is fine.
2. Those who want Gray and Juvia to be lovers.
3. Those who want Gray and Lucy to be lovers.
4. Those who don’t want Gray to enter a romantic relationship with anyone.
5. Those who aren’t interested in the depiction of Gray’s romance. They want to see intense battles.
I’ve already decided exactly what Gray’s future will be (/how Gray will turn out). I won’t (/unlikely) change my decision despite the various fan opinions/reactions. However, as a writer, no matter what happens [to Gray] I’d like people/fans to think more along the lines of #1 (he would be happy if fans thought that way). (x)

Quite frankly I don’t even know why you messaged me this since I am a Gruvia fan and really don’t care for negative opinions regarding my ship. The only reason I’m responding is because you are so off the mark and managed to piss me off. Any other questions please refer here and educate yourself. All in all, Gray and Juvia becoming a couple is due to their development from the beginning until now, and because they love each other. Stop downgrading their bond and progression just because YOU don’t LIKE it.
